My connection is to Phoebe (or Phebe) West, who married Thomas Sceles. They were loyalists who emigrated to Guysborough County, Nova Scotia in the late 1700s. Based on her age given at the time of her death, she would have been born circa 1770 - 1771. The death certificate of her son William, who died in Gloucester, MA, listed Thomas Sceles' birthplace as Philadelphia, Phoebe West's birthplace as Hampton. There was no indication of the state or country in which Hampton was located.

I am hoping to find out where she came from, and who her parents were. If you can shed any light on this, please let me know.

I have no information about William or Abner West. There name William appears frequently among Phoebe's descendants. I have not encountered the name Abner at all.

I have an Abner whose father I think is Isaac. All information seems to lean that way, but we can't find any absolute proof, no birth certificate or census listing his father, etc. That is the confusion. The other confusion of course is this two Isaacs.I have him as married to Susannah Anderson, but not in Tennessee. thanks for responding. lyn

I was thinking of visiting Old Shawneetown, IL for the same purpose, so you saved me the effort. But since he was said to have been visiting relatives in Shawneetown at the time of his death, it would seem the court records might indicate Wests or Andersons living there at that time. Did you check that angle?

Did you ever follow up to try to find Isaac West's grave there, as you mentioned in your posting?

I'm descended from Robert Anderson West, one of his sons by Susannah Anderson.

I would be interested in your data. My Isaac West m Susannah Anderson in 1769 Orange Co, NC, and they later migrated to Dickson Co., TN. Susannah died in Dickson Co. in 1810 and he remarried. According to family lore, Isaac died on a vist to relatives in Shawneetown, IL in 1816.

I have been trying to figure out these West's for a while. My great grandfather was Calvin Green West. He was born in Arkansas. His family moved to AK in the mid 1850's. His father was William Green West. I think he was born in Lincln Co., NC about 1800. An 1850 census in TN, (I can't make out the county name), list William Green West, with his 85 year old father, Reuben West, living with him. William married a woman named Mary, called Polly, last name unknown. Reuben possibly married Susannah Belk. Everyone has Reuben's father as Isaac West married to Susannah Anderson. They have Isaac's father as William married to Sarah Cropper, or Sarah Ennis Cropper. Nobody has any proof. As far as I can tell, these people never left PA. Or had a child named Isaac. My Isaac West died in North Carolina about 1830, not in Shawneetown, IL, but was possibly a cousin of the other Isaac. I also have a Phoebe married to James Rees. Any info would be appreciated.

I have just read your posting on the West line. I beleive that my ancestor Walter West was a brother to Ignatius WEst. Walter married an Elizabeth Johnson and died in Newberry County, Sc. by 1820.

Do you have any information that could verify that my Walter West was the brother of Ignatius West and the son of Thomas West Sr.
