Sue: Yes, I know Karen Mallon now. As it turns out, she is my Dad's cousin [1/2 cousin technically speaking]. My grandfather, James Elmer Lane was born to Madison [Matterson] and his first wife, which I can't quite read on the death certificate. He died in Galena, KS, and was buried in Republic, Mo. After my grandmother died, Madison married another woman, Mary Alice Elder [Karen's grandmother].

Sue:

You are right about the census. Actually, all of the census records say "Madison". My death certificate says "Matterson", but I believe the coroner heard it wrong. I just met with my 2nd cousin [Karen], and she has most of the records showing Madison..... Good to hear from you.

Ona,
Can you find a connection between your Lanes and my Nancy Lane Dungey? Lane may have been her previously married name or her maiden name. Her husband in my line is Charles Dungey(sp)-she was born circa 1800-they married circa 1831-his/their children born Cocke and Giles Co., TN, possibly some of the later ones in IL.. They moved onto Southern IL-Williamson Co., circa 1850-and died there.

Good luck in your search. My grandfather was Ira/Ivie/Irie Lane(seen it spelled all ways) and was born around 1912. He was once married to Carrie Bean and had children in western carolina. We have heard that he may have went to Gastonia in mid fifties. I can not seem to locate him either.

Hi Jim
Your Lanes and our Lanes are one in the same. Most of the info I have gotten is from others on here, I try to check things out just to make sure they are correct, which takes a long time. I do know that your Morgan L. Lane was a brother to our Jesse Milford Lane. Have you heard of Jesse Milford? I know they are related because Morgan is mentioned in Jesses Obit. Jesse died in California. If you would like to contact me my email address is shdy_lady1@yahoo.com. I dont know how much I can help you but it would be fun trying.

I grew p near Bethany and also descend from a Lane family ; would you care to to check our families lineages to see if we are related. My descent is from Va thru John Lane> David Layne>David Layne Susannah Layne thence thru the TIllers in Missouri but I have quite a bit of information on the collateral Lane families beyond my Lane connections into Missouri if your interested in comparisons. I know some of them were down around Bowling Green Missouri in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I own a farm near Cainsville, twenty miles from Bethany.

regards
