I have gotten my wires a bit crossed here. I have information that says Isaac West (father of Abner West) was the son of John West and Eleanor Madden. I have recently come across the following:

Now, my (original) information is incomplete at best, but here's what I have on Isaac West - b. abt 1745 in SC or NC, m. 1769 to Susanna Anderson, d. unknown, children: (1) Abner West, f. John West, m. Eleanor Madden.

So my question is - who is Isaac's mom and Dad? Or am I looking at 2 Isaac's born in the same area at roughly the same time?

Isaac West b. ca 1847 in NC may be the son of Isaac West b. ca 1725 in Orange County, NC.

I have that Isaac West b. ca 1847 in NC d. 1814 Shawnee, Gallatin Co., IL, and married ca 1766 Susanna Anderson b. 1747 Davis Co., TN d. 1810 Dickson Co., TN. Some known children: Catherine b. 1768, Abner b. bet 1780-84, Phoebe b. 1770. Some additional notes: About 1782 Isaac and Susanna moved from Granville, NC to Greenville, SC; the abt 1810 they moved to Dickson Co., TN; Isaac died in IL while there on a visit.

There were two Isaac West's living at the same time in and near the same area. One was an Isaac West who married a Susannah Anderson. She died and this Isaac West left there to live in Dixon County, Tennessee. He took a second wife after he moved there.

He went to Illinois for a visit and died up there in 1814. Mary, his second wife, was in the court records of Dixon Co., TN for many years concerning the well being of the minor child she had by him.

The other Isaac West was born about the same time and we do not know the name of his wife. She died at a fairly young age. Isaac West lived to be over 90 yrs old. We never found him in a census where the wife's name was given. He died about 1835 or so. I descend from this Isaac West. I can give you all of his children's names.

I call the first Isaac West, the South Carolina Isaac. I call mine the North Carolina Isaac. They were living in two different States but they both lived very close to the line. They did not live too far apart even though they were in two different states. I believe they might have been cousins or some other close relationship.

Sorry, to answer your question,

William had 2 wives, Sarah Cropper and Hannah Shaw, and had a son, Issac by both.

I can document my West ancestors to Thomas West in Chatham County, NC during the Revolutionary War. I am descended from his son John, born 1762, and have corresponded with descendants of sons Thomas and Ignatius. If you look at the Chatham County, NC web site, you will find this West family and see that there was also a son named Isaac.

It was through descendants of Ignatius that I found this information, but the "key" to the relationship to our line is missing:
1. West, John, Sr. b. 1700 – d. 1780
Married: 1a. Mary Madden (c. 1724)
1b. Eleanor Massey ( c. 1749)
NC & Georgia

This source goes on to list three generations of descendants of this John West in Georgia, primarily in Columbia and Richmond Counties. Is it possible that this John West, Sr's two wives have been "collapsed" to one wife named Eleanor Madden?

Hello I am yet another West in search of. My great grandfather was William Tad West . I have his father as Joseph Anderson West born abt 1826 and mother Susannah Posey. Could this possibly be Issac's son. Tad lived and died in Claborne County, Tennessee. I have had a lot of difficulty with this line. thanks for any help. Kim West Boles
