correction: I am a descendent of Evarista
Villavaso who was the son of
Rosalia Andry and Jose Raimundo
Villavaso. Rosalia was a native of
Bilbao, Spain and was born in 1777. Jose was a native of Maruro, Spain. Evarista was their son. The couple relocated in the late 18th century to Lousiana and settled in St. James
Parish along River Road where they purchased St. Emma's Plantation, a plantation that was owned by several families throughout generations. Nevertheless, Evarista married Susanne Croizet, a native French woman who bore him a son whom they named
Etienne Villavaso. Evarista also had a son named
Augustine or
Gustave, or Gee-Stan as they called him, by his house servant, a native African woman who was purchased in New
Orleans after the uprising at
Santo Domingo, now known as Haiti. Her name was Elizabeth DePierrie, of whom I am a descendent.
