Any Andry''s out there?

K. Andry  (View posts) Posted: 5 Jul 1999 9:00PM GMT
Have much on the Andry's now. The name is uncommon- so we are probably all related somehow. Looking for info on original 3 Andry brothers (Louis, Simon and Gilbert) that settled in Louisiana from Acadia and before then - France. Plus any info on Andry's in Acadia and France. I am a decendent of Louis.

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Gustave Etienne Andry, who was born in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana in 1863. His father was Ovide Andry and his mother was Palmyre Victoria Roussel, purportedly of Cherokee ancestry, from Oklahoma

An Andry Descendant

Kay, I'm descendant of the plantation owner Simon Andry, 1754-1813, b. New Orleans, d. Baldwin Co., AL. His will stated that his parents were "Mr. Andry and Charlotte Hirs". Suspect he was descended from either Gilbert or Simon of the brothers you mentioned.

I am a descendent of Rosalie Andry who was born in Bilbao, Spain in 1777. She married Jose Raimundo Villavaso, also of Spain and had a son whom they named Evaristo Villavaso Andry

correction: I am a descendent of Evarista Villavaso who was the son of Rosalia Andry and Jose Raimundo Villavaso. Rosalia was a native of Bilbao, Spain and was born in 1777. Jose was a native of Maruro, Spain. Evarista was their son. The couple relocated in the late 18th century to Lousiana and settled in St. James Parish along River Road where they purchased St. Emma's Plantation, a plantation that was owned by several families throughout generations. Nevertheless, Evarista married Susanne Croizet, a native French woman who bore him a son whom they named Etienne Villavaso. Evarista also had a son named Augustine or Gustave, or Gee-Stan as they called him, by his house servant, a native African woman who was purchased in New Orleans after the uprising at Santo Domingo, now known as Haiti. Her name was Elizabeth DePierrie, of whom I am a descendent.

The Andry's were not french natives, they were natives of Bilbao, Spain. The earliest being recorded is Rosalia Andry who was born in 1777. She married Jose Raimundo Villavaso of Maruro, Spain. The couple relocated to St. James Parish in Louisiana in the late 1700's where they settled and had a son, Evarista Villavaso Andry. Evarista had a son with his native french wife, susanne croizet. Their son's name was Etienne. It is possible that Etienne had children and these are the brothers you are looking for. However, the french comes in on the maternal side.

Sherill,I have a tree that shows Ovide on it but says he died single. Do you know who his father was? On this tree, it shows that Michel Andry, grandson of Louis Antoine, to be Ovide's father. Is this the same Ovide? When was your grandfather born??
