Melissa - - If you will send me your snail
mail address, I will be happy to send you
all that was recorded in WORK FAMILY HISTORY
(the first volume) regarding this John Work.
Sarah Jackson was supposed to have be red-
haired and I think you will find the story
interesting if you have not already seen it.
I have corresponded recently with a couple of
people (mother and daughter) who are working
towards restoring the old John Work home and
have a few photos of the remains of the mill.

I know that my great great great grandfather John M. Ewing married a Lettice Work.
I don't know anything else. I know he lived from 8/8/1797 - 10/8/1878 and she lived from
July 7, 1796 to 8/23/1871. If you know anything about them please let me know. Thanks! Drama59@aol.com

Work surname

I am researching my mother's maiden name which is Work. This particular branch of the Work family lived in Iowa. Her father's name was John Riggs Calvin Work who married Fannie (Anne Hoover). John's father's name was Henry Work and he was married to Mary Gibson or Gipson. As I remember the Works migrated to Iowa from one of the eastern states. I am trying to find out the heritage of the Work name and anything about this branch of my family. I have lost the dates of birth and death. Please let me know what you might know, at least about the country the name originated. Thank you. It may take me some time to reply as we are traveling soon. Pat Gerdes

Do you have any other information on Henry, John Rigg Calvin Work's father? They could be the Works from PA that were in Indiana then migrated to IA sometime in the 1850's. If you could provide any more information I will check it out.

This is what I know about Henry C. Work father of John Riggs Work that I have gotten from a newspaper obit. It reads "John R. Work, son of Henry C. and Mary Anne Work, was born near Lafayette, Ind., Oct. 24, 1873, and died Dec. 9, 1947 at the age of 74 years 1 month, and 13 days. He came to Warren County when a young man, making his home with his sister near Spring Hill for a time. On Sept. 19, 1900 he was united in marriage to Fannie Hoover. Thank you for responding, Pam. You wouldn't happen to live in Texas and have a brother in Iowa? Anxiously awaiting your reply. Would really like to know to national origin of the Work name if you know it. Pat

After I got off, I dug a little deeper in my files and found the only other info that I have on Henry C. Work, John Riggs Calvin Work's father. I have that he married Mary Anne Gipson or Gibson. She was born June 20, 1850. I have that Henry C. Work (my great grandfather) was born on March 22, 1820 and died on July 8, 1882. It looks as if he could have been his wife's father by judging from the ages! They had six children: 1.Elizabeth Jane Garrison Work - I think that she died at birth, I have that she died Sept. 13, 1868; 2.Irene May Work born Dec.23, 1871; 3.John Riggs Calvin Work (I have already given you his birth and death dates); 4.Ida Laury Work born Sept. 6, 1875; 5.Ova Norman Work born July 12, 1880; 6.Ora Edna Work born June 25, 1882. I hope that this gives you more to work with. I am sorry, but that is all I have. I will be out of town again for a week, but will look forward to hearing from you. Pat
