WIGAN family on the River Douglas in the 1600's

Looking for anyone with knowledge of a WIGAN family residing on THE RIVER DOUGLAS in the 1600's. Is this a family name in that area today? Any information on this surname would be helpful. Looking especially for first marriage of a Thomas Wigan/Wiggin (and various other spellings said to be from that area) from the late 1500's. WE know of his second marriage but not the first. The first marriage will undoubtedly provide information on Thomas's ancestry if we can find something.

I am searching for any information on the Wigan family. I show James Wigan married to Anne Hollis on 9/14/1600 in Wigan Parish. I know that James had a son Thomas who departed London in 1635 for the New World. I am lookign for any information on the family remaining in England.

James and Anne's children were:

Your message has fluttered the hearts of every Wiggin in the US! We are most anxious to make a connection from our Thomas Wiggin (as per Al's message). We have no information on his life in England other than some legal documents. Nothing on his acestry. One source hints that he was Thomas Wigan of Wigan, Lanc. but we have no proof. We await your input with anxious hearts!

firstly I really do wish you good luck with your search. I can't offer you too much, but if I were you I would stick to your original name, although the middle English names of Wigeyn, Wygan, from the old French Breton names of Uuicon, and Guegon might prove helpful further down your search.
If of any help, my family are huge in the oxford/woodstock area, though I was reared near Wigan in Lancashire!!!!
