Unfortunately, your father's DNA would not work for the Wells project. We need to have a descendant who still carries the Wells surname and thus the y-chromosome from the Wells family. Once you introduce a female in the tree they bring in a husband with a different y-chromosome.

What we would need is a male descendant of one of your great-grandmother's brothers who still carries the Wells name.

If you can give me some details on your great-grandmother's family I can check to see if we may have already matched this family.

I noticed you mentioned DNA. My fathers grandmother was a Wells from Morgan Co., Ky. I just submitted a DNA sample for his fathers name, Wheeler. His mother was a Lykins. Is there anyway to use his DNA for Wells without having to pay all that money again??? Also would a grandson count in a DNA sample?
Melinda

Don't know if I have the same James and Sarah you are
looking for. The ones I mention was from LA.
I only know that my James and my Benjamin(Marion's father)
were Marengo Co. AL in 1830, then later went back to LA.
If this is the same family as yours, maybe I can help a
little. You might find them in the Census in the State of LA

You are correct on both counts. I had forgotten about Hugh Winters in New Zealand. Now that you mention it there are also Sue Boyland and Coral Preston in Western Australia who are descendants from this family.

Orin,

I seem to recall reading these names somewhere - I think they might be tied to the lace makers that went from Nottingham to France. If i recall correctly Hugh Winters is interested in / may have done some research on this line.

Regards,
Stephen.

I don't know how common Bronwyn/Bronwen is in Australia, but I had contact with a Bronwen Thomas who used to live in Croydon South, Victoria. Any chance there is a connection there?

We never got anyone in her family to do the DNA testing. Her family tracked back to Thomas Wells Cir 1800 and Sarah Cresswell who immigrated from Nottinghamshire to Victoria. Would your father be willing to submit a DNA sample to the Wells DNA Study to see what we can match your family to?

Married to a Mabel Dempsey age 22 years also born in Indiana and her parents as well were born in Indiana. They have a child Jack C. Dempsey age 2 5/12 years. Their home was South Bend, St. Joseph, Indiana, District 56. page 41 of the census.

I do believe he is their son, Joseph, but the unproven data on their son Joseph does not match ... but not being able to substantiate the data others provide who give no clues to the proof they used ... there is still a wonder.

Hi, I am related to Joseph Wells and Thankful Shaler originally from Hebron, Tolland, Connecticut. They moved to Cambridge, Washington County, NY after the Revolutionary War. They named one of their sons Shaler Wells. They had twelve children: Elizabeth, Hannah, Margery, Timothy, Tabitha, Samaramis, Shaler, Henry, Nathaniel, Anna, Joseph, and Uzzan (Azzan). Do any of these names sound familiar. Timothy stayed in Cambridge. Their granddaughter, Rachel Anna Wells married my gg grandfather, Joel Chester Fuller of Stony Creek, Warren County, NY. Some of the other children went to Pennsylvania, Maine, etc. Some of the other grandchildren went to Illinois and Wisconsin. Rachel and Joel's son ended up in Montana (Chauncey Orson Fuller and Alice Mary Nichols (Iowa-Erie County, NY, Rhode Island)

He was married to Rachel Brown on April 24,1775. They had several children and the 7th child was named James Wells but he was born on Oct. 11, 1789.

Matilda and Tamsen were twins and Matilda appears to have died in IA.
Absalom B. was born in Missouri.
I know Phebe, Isaac, Henry, and Absalom Sr. & Junior Moved but Mary Galland has been hard to fine. The Galland Co. Ohio county was no doubt named for her family.

These Wells I believe are all or mostly buried in the Wells cemetery. My father-in-law went to Kentucky and researched some of it.

I am looking for information on Grace Bell Wells Davis.

Born most likely in Ohio (possibly Peebles, Ohio) - Feb 2, 1886.
Buried in Willow View Cemetery, Northridge, Dayton, Ohio on May 16, 1956

Grace was believed to be born as Yellow Moon Running Horse - full Cherokee Native American. She later was named Grace Bell Forthyse. She married George William Wells (sep 3, 1886 - feb 8, 1936) and had one son, also named George William Wells. Grace had a daughter named Audrey with a different spouse, and could possibly have had additional children. She later remarried under the name of Davis and therefore buried as Wells Davis.

Any information that might be found on Grace Bell Forthyse (1886-1956), George William Wells (1886-1936), or any details affiliated with them would be extremely appreciated.

In Gwyn Cemetery @ Cruso Haywood County, North Carolina there is a family of Sharps: Lee, Dollie, J.R., S. E. Mamie, David, Annie, William, Ada, Allen, Mark, E.W., Edna, John and Bonnie. The dates on the graves range 1822-1962.

What I found interesting is there is at the bottom of the cemetery listing: Robert Burton Wells--no date and a O. Wells 1869-1947.

Possible families intermarrying in the same area.

Not my family at present. I'm still looking for mine.
I'm desperately trying to find my great grandmother's parents. Her name is Evelyn Wells. She was born 1898 in North Carolina. She died 1973 in Virginia. She married Robert Bascomb Sharp. He was bornm 1893 in North Carolina. He died 1959 in Virginia. Their children are:Beverly,Thurva,Harris,Robert(my grandfather) and Donald. I'm confused because on the 1920 Census it says Evelyn's parents are born in North Carolina. But on the 1930 Census it says her father was Born in Massachusetts. Does anyone know this family and have the right information? Please help!!!!!! Thank you in advance.

Crystal

My Wells are from North Carolina, USA. I don't know much about our Wells family, or where they originated. Some of our Wells ancestors were Joel Wells, Joel Stephen Wells, Hubbard Lee Wells, and his son Jimmy Lee Wells all lived in Columbus County, NC. It is nice to meet other WElls.

Evelyn Wells
