Hello. Do you know where Sarah lived in Western PA? My 3x grandfather (Caleb Wells) moved to either Erie Co or Crawford Co, PA around 1820 from NH. He married Rebecca Dow in 1820. After Rebecca's death in 1831, he married Jemima White. Caleb was born in NH in 1794. Thought maybe Sarah may be related.

hi carolyn,
sarah wells was married to williamm hazlett. she was born mar 1792 and william was born 1790. i have no death dates as yet. sarah was the daughter of christopher wells married to ann oxwoth (hawksworth). that was williams second wife. he had an older daughter named sarah, also. she was born to his first wife elizabeth williams. the second sarah is my 2x great grandmother. they were in western penna . some of the wells family resides in the erie, pa. area. i am in contact with them. they are part indian (seneca). four or five wells children were captured and raised by indians. one was quite famous. william wells served in the war of 1812 and would have been fighting my shawnee ancestors. the captive wells children were taken by my shawnee people in western pa. i have their names. i believe that their descendants are among the shawnee in oklahoma. i am working to find them.

hi stephanie,
you may be a relative. five wells children were captives in the late 1700's and early 1800's. my people took them. i am working to find their descendants. virginia would have been a likely area were some of them may have gone. the fact that your grandmother was indian would lend itself to the fact that these kids would have moved within indian society. they were raised with indians, therefore they would have no problems marrying indians.

I've run across a lot of dead ends in trying to locate ancesters beyond my grandfather, Charles Wesley Wells. I have found that he had a lot of Indian blood, which may be the reason for a lack of records. Info I have found states he was born in Fairbury, Livingston County, Illinois on Oct 20,1858, and moved to California and married Minnie Belle Sappenfield, from either Clay or Cook counties, in Los Angeles on 7 May 1887
Hope this may help you as it will help me if it does.
Thanks, Steve Wells

Hi Steve,

About five members of the Wells family were captured by the Shawnees in the late 1700's. They would have moved west into the midwestern states, as the Shawnee were pushed west. Also, William Wells (Apekonit or Red Hair) married Little Turtles daughter, Sweet breeze. They had several children. They could have carried the Wells name into the Illinois country. I have names of captives, if you wish to use them in your search. I would be interested in any info. that you uncover. Contact me direct at ; lonewlf99@aol.com We have plenty of Indian family out there, just got to locate them.

Iwas wondering if you could give me some information on the captured Wells children. I have been trying to find information on my ancesters. My Great Grandfather was James Ashley Wells My Great Grandmother was Sarah Meeks she was a full blooded Indian her mother could not speak English my brother met her. If I have traced correctly His Fathers name was Starling G and His father was Starling born in Ala His father was Henry who was an Indian Agent from what I can see. I know one of the Wells signed the Peace Treaty I forget the name now. I do not have the information in front of me. The Wells families were born in Miss and some moved to Hardin County Tx in the I think 1800s. I know my Great Grandfather was married at least 3 times and there are about 17 children. I have met on line some of the cousins but am still confused to my heritage. If you can help I would appreciate it .
Thank You
Martha Palmer
