Individual biographical text for Henry Webber

Formerly Editor of the Cardiff and Merthyr Guardian in Cardidff, Wales. Resigned that position.

This couple had six children, four boys and two girls. I have names for more children than that but might be crossing generations. Ann Walter is only a guess. We do his wife was named Ann.

"History of many of the children quite unkown."

A wealthy man who lived in a beautiful house with his two unmarried daughteres. He had interests in the docks, was involved in a West Indies plantation to which he visited every other year, had a yacht and was a prominent citizen of Cardiff.

We know a great deal about him from his granddaughter, Amelia's, story of her life in Wales.

Individual biographical text for Ann Baily?

Died shortly after her last child, Augustus, was born. May have been the mother of 15 children or may have been a second wife. Most probably Ann Hodges because of an old note in Augustus's writing indicating the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Hodges.

An old, undated letter from Millie Webber Hapeman to Louisa Charlotte Webber: Think my grandfather's wife's name was Margaret Baily, daughter or sister of the sculptor that carved Eve at the Fountain in Crystal Palace, London. (That sculptor, who also carved the statue of Nelson at Trafalgar Square, was Edward Hodges Baily. He was the son of a carver of ship's figureheads in Bristol.)

Event Text: birth event on 1784

Age taken from his age of 86 at time of his death.

Other sources say that he was born in Penzance as it might have been Bristol.

He might have been one of 13 children of his father and mother. Later, he went to Cardiff and purchased a newspaper. Also had a home in Mousehole, Penzance, where he died and where his daughters, Ann and Emily, lived. All three are probably buried in Penzance.

Purchased a newspaper in Cardiff. Supposed to have had 15 children of whom only 7 survivied.

He was a kind and loving grandfather to Millie Webber Hapeman who lived with him until she was 16 and her father sent for her. He was wealthy and the life was luxurious. He had a yacht and was invested in the Cardiff docks. There should be a good obituary about this man, but I have several different death dates. He also had property in the West Indies and visited there (probably his eldest son) every other year, one time bringing home a wonderful housekeeper and nurse for his granddaugter.

The following individuals are linked to this event: Henry Webber (father); Henry Webber (Child).

Event Text: birth event on 25 Dec 1784

The following individual is linked to this event: Ann Baily? (Child).

Event Text: marriage event on CA 1804

Fifteen children were possibly born of this marriage. We need to find marriage certificates and death certificates to learn Ann's last name.

The following individual is linked to this event: Henry Webber (Groom).

Event Text: death event on 12 Feb 1870

There is a death certificate available for this man who died at age 86. Volume 5c, page 256.
