Susie is my G.Grandmother b.9-22-1885 KY d.1-6-1935 Greenup County, Frost, Kentucky.

Her parents were:
James Vansickle b.10-22-1839 Athens, Ohio d.2-24-1930 KY
Marilla Barnhart b.10-1953 Ohio d.after 1900 Kentucky

I would really like more information from this side of my fathers family.

James parents are Kapock & Susan Juniper Vansickle.

Marillas parents are Alvernes & Nancy E. Trailor Barnhart.

Hi- I just posted a response to you at the Vansickle board. I have death certificates of both James and Marilla. On Marilla's certificate, it lists her parents as Jacob Barnhart and Mary Skiver.

I'm very much interested in the Vansickle name, since I have been unable to trace my own ancestors as far as I'd like. I've been collecting info. on the name, especially those with ties to Ohio. So far, I've been unable to connect James to the branch that lived in Athens Co. Ohio.

I can add though that James' mother, Susan, was probably not born Susan JUNIPER. She was married to a George JUNIPER on 11 January 1863 in Athens County, Ohio, and recorded there in 1870 as a widow. Her Vansickle children were incorrectly enumerated as JUNIPER.

I hope to find more info. for you very soon. I'd be interested in any info. you can share with me.

Thanks,
Jeannie

P.S. James Vansickle was first married to a woman named Nancy CALENTINE. I have updated info. on James and both wives at Find A Grave:

I am now certain that James was the son of Andrew VANSICKLE and Susan SKIVERS or SHIVERS.

It proved to be very helpful that James' brother, John, also married a BARNHART in Greenup County. I was able to find death records for both John and his wife, Mahala BARNHART-VANSICKLE in Ohio. John's death certificate listed the names of his parents. I also found the death certificate for James' brother, George (whose death certificate listed the same parents as John). All of the information matches census records for your family. Plus, it appears that the wife of Jacob BARNHART, Mary SKIVER, may be a relation to Susan.

Please contact me via email or through the message board here, and I'll gladly send all the documents I found to you.

Hey thanks! I wasn't positive on who the parents of James were, the info I recieved prior to this was from the Broughton side of my family(distant cousin)from my Great grandfather Ed Broughtons first wife.

It looks as if Marilla/Morello and James were 1st cousins, nice :)

You can e-mail me orchards7@verizon.net and maybe we can exchange numbers for in the future.

Actually, upon further research, it appears that Susan may have been James' stepmother. I found that she and Andrew were married in 1852- 8 years after the birth of James. But I have no doubt that the children with Susan in the 1870 and 1880 censuses were the children of Susan and Andrew. What would really be nice is an obituary for James or his siblings. James' death certificate did not list his father, but it did have Susan on it. So I'm kind of scratching my head on this one.

I only have a small clue as to Andrew VAN SICKLE- the 1870 Census Susan JUNIPER household lists a Mary VAN SICKLE and it says, "lives with aunt". I believe this Mary was the daughter of John VAN SICKLE (who was born c. 1825 in Ohio and who resided in Athens County in 1860 and Hocking County in 1870.) Why I can't find either John or Andrew in earlier censuses is beyond me!

Please email me or contact me through my genealogy blog if you have any info. that may help me. I prefer to do genealogy correspondence in writing, since it in itself is documentation. As far as I can tell, I'm not related to any of your family, but I'll be glad to help you out if I am able. :D
