Kelly -

I don't know if you have had any private replies to your inquiry, but Elizabeth Utter's maiden name was Farrar. She was a sister to my great-grandfather, George Farrar. According to the family tree I have, Elizabeth was born June 27, 1838 in New York and died in 1906 in Trempealeau, WI.

Perhaps you can answer a niggling question: I have a note that says that Charles and Frank Utter had a sister, whose name is unknown - and apparently she died young, but supposedly she was the first, or one of the first, telegraph operators in the U.S. Might you know anything about the sister?

Cheers!
Roberta

They lived on a farm on Lake Wyneda. Probably spelled incorrectly. Lawrence had a single daughter Polly who now has a small restaurant in Tyrone.

Hello to all,
I am hoping to solve some issue's in your families. I am a Northrup & Northup by lineage. My Northrup's were from Deerfield,(Utica) Oneida, NY, my Northup's from Granville, Washington, NY. The Utter's are from Warren Co. NY (Lake George area.~ "Last of the Mohican's" movie area.) Near to the VT border. These are the families you are looking for.
This is of course the 1788-1800 era. My Northrup & Northup's originally came from R.I.1645-1788 before that England.
Sorry, but I do not know where the Utter's are from originally.
Hope this helps,
Sincerely, Theresa Knowles-Northup Caparco

This Charles would have been in Warwick, Orange County, NY, or Sussex County in NJ.

Unfortuneately, there were a couple of Charles that would have been the appropriate age to be her husband.

This is an old thread so I hope someone finds it. My great grandfather is Julian Seymour Utter. My grandfather, Henry Utter, was born from the marriage of the first wife--as I understand it. Henry left home early and never discussed family background so we know basically nothing. Hope you found what you were looking for regarding Harmon Utter. Any background from there that anyone has would be much appreciated.

Other settlers who went to Wyoming Valley with Abraham in 1750

In addition to Abraham Utter (1716-1779)and his immediate family [wife, eight children and a negro]; ten other families left Dutchess County, NY with him on April 5, 1750 to settle in the Wyoming Valley near present day Wilkes-Barre, PA. Their decision to do so was a disaster as the majority were killed in the "first Wyoming massacre" in 1757. Some known neighbors in Wyoming were Israel Baldwin, Jonathan Mosier, Thomas Quick and Daivd Harris. Has anyone ever seen a list of the ten families who left Dutchess County with the Utter family in 1750?

Hi,

My name is Barbara Brellenthin/Milazzo, and I have been trying to get information for both sides of my family. We have only one Aunt Lil, and an Uncle Wilbur Utter who are still surviving. Aunt Lil is 82/3(?)lived in NB until about a year ago, she is now living in FL with her daughter. Uncle Wilbur is living in a nursing home I believe somewhere in NJ, and I understand that he has dementia. I don't have too much information on the family, have been doing research for a few years, but never put anything definite in the computer because I couldn't really validate anything. I'm "electronically challenged" when it comes to computers. Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Barbara

I have a lot of info to send you on email -- I am so glad to finally find someone on the Utter line! (Actually Alice Brown Winkelmann was my grandmother, my father is Bernard John Winkelmann, her only son. She had several daughters (Lillian, Anne, Ruthie) of whom only my Aunt Ruthie is still living, still in North Bergen area.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
My mother's name was Clara Utter, she was William Edward Utter's daughter, her mother was Elsie Menzel. I remember going to visit your mother Alice with my mom when I was a child, I don't remember your father, I guess he was working when we visited. I also remember visiting "little Aunt Lillie" Brown in West New York. I was doing research on my father's side and got nothing, so decided to look further into the "Utter" side. You have given me some information on gggg(?) grandmother Mary, I didn't know her maiden name. I don't have too much information, but what I do have I would be glad to share. I hope to hear from you.
Hi Sue...My Grandmother was born April 13, 1912 and her name was Georgia Edna Utter. Her father is a mystery. Her mother's real name was Cara, they called her Carrie. I will e-mail you the photo over the weekend. The back of the photo is labeled in Georgia's handwriting..."Velzer Utter's Children and grandchildren" "Georgia Wormuth Mother, Uncle Elsworth and Uncle Arthur, Grandmother, Aunt Alice, U.Simon, Aunt Gertie, Aunt Rosie Riggs, Uncle Bill Riggs" "Cornelia R., Georgie, Carrie, Artie, Henry, Alice all are Utter Children Great Grandmother to Edna Decker"(who was my mother)

Hi Joy.

Was your Grandmother Georgia born about 1912? If so, She was Carrie Utter Marshall's mystery daughter. The family called her Georgia Marshall, but she was born years after the Unknown Marshall died.

Her Grandparents would be Velzer Utter and Cornelia Hartman.

I would love to see a copy of the picture and will email you now.

Sue

Pheobe Ann Hall Wagner Utter - which Charles?

I was sorting through some of my Grandparents papers, and found several clippings in an envelope marked "Bennett Family" in my late Grandmother's writing.

One was for an obituary. No date, and no newspaper, although I suspect it was from The Warwick Advertiser. Text as follows:

"Mrs. Charles Utter
NEW MILFORD -- Mrs. Pheobe Ann Wagner Utter died at her home here Friday night after a long illness.
Funeral services were held today at the Lazear Funeral Home, Warwick. The Rev. Seely Quackenbush officiated. Pallbears were John Helt, Percy Helt, Claude House, and James Park. Interment was in the family plot, Ellenville Cemetery.
Mrs. Utter was born in Ellenville October fifth, 1867, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Hall. She was married twice, first to the late George Wagner. Her second husband, Charles Utter survives.
Also surviving are five daughters of her first marriage, Betty, wife of Robert Mueller, and Ethel, wife of Charles Ferguson, both of Summitville, Gladys, wife of Joseph Catone of Franklin, N.J., Lucy, wife of Lester Kelder of Ellenville, and Bertha, wife of Frank DeKay of Warwick; also a sister Mrs. Hattie Clearwater of California; two brothres, Charles Hall of Delaware and James Hall of Harriman; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. "

I am not able to place WHICH Charles Utter was her husband. Can anyone help?
