I have an Elizabeth Utter in my line-she was my GGGGrandmother-all I know is that she was married to my GGGGrandfather, Dr. Rufus Carver Ambler, approx 1857. Perhaps she and Charles were brother/sister? My GGGrandmother, Lucy Ambler, was b in VT but Dr. Ambler died in IA. Lucy and my GGGrandfather, George McGill, were married in WI. So I have reason to believe, although not proven, that Elizabeth/Dr. Rufus went from VT to WI. Don't know if you have any info regarding your Charles and his ancestors. Thanks for your post.

Kelly -

I don't know if you have had any private replies to your inquiry, but Elizabeth Utter's maiden name was Farrar. She was a sister to my great-grandfather, George Farrar. According to the family tree I have, Elizabeth was born June 27, 1838 in New York and died in 1906 in Trempealeau, WI.

Perhaps you can answer a niggling question: I have a note that says that Charles and Frank Utter had a sister, whose name is unknown - and apparently she died young, but supposedly she was the first, or one of the first, telegraph operators in the U.S. Might you know anything about the sister?

Cheers!
Roberta
