Unfortunately I don't have further info for you about Martin and Wilhelmine. The Jochem's are my relatives. If you have a family history center nearby, you should be able to order the church records through them. If not, I can see if I can copy those records for you next time I go to the FHC and send them to you. I will look for that picture on my computer and send it to you when I find it. May I e-mail it to you as an attachment?

WOW!! I guess we are related!! HA! I was so upset last week because I got Alexander's death cert. in the mail and the parents names were missing!!
Do you know if Martin and wilhemine met in Milwaukee or did they come over together from Germany? That is interesting about the saying they are a widow when they divorce. I saw Martin on a census when he was 74..looks like wilhemine had died..but I dont see Emil anywhere. I suppose you checked to see if he was living with one of his children? I saw that a lot on the census for other parts of my family. If you ever run across that boat I would love to see it ..and also the baptism records. I dont want to put you out..do you know if there is a place I can request it by mail? I live in Georgia. I might try to drag my family up to Milwaukee this summer to do some digging. My husbands mother lives in Horicon area. Thanks for the information...

I have good news...from Emil's marriage record, I have his parents' names as Martin Treu and Wilhelmine Olaff. Emil Treu and Mary Jochem were divorced in Milwaukee County in 1908, and Mary remarried in 1915. I have seen it before in my family where a divorced woman claims she is a widow in the census records. I found in my notes that Emil Treu was born 7 Sep. 1875 and his brother Alexander was born 15 Dec. 1872. These dates are from baptism records of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, which have been microfilmed. I don't know if you live in the Milwaukee area like I do, but the microfilms for this church can be viewed either at the Family History Center in Hales Corners or the Golda Meir Library at UW-Milwaukee. I also have in my notes that Emil was the captain of a tugboat named "Martin Treu" (after his father)...I think someone sent me a photo of that boat at some point. If you'd like, I could try to find it.

Im not sure if you are looking for the older Emil..or his son. If you look at a 1910 census. It lists Mary, Emil (son) and Edwar.. It shows Mary as a widow. My family lived very close to them as they are right below Gusta Meyer on the census form. Alexander my great grandfather died in 1913 after a fishing accident. I have 2 other relatives that drowned in fishing accidents. It is possible this happened to Emil. I would like to know if the 2 families are related. I am looking for Alexander's parents and brothers and sisters. I havent been able to find his family . Do you know who Emil's parents are?

In the 1880 census, she was living with her son, Enoch, in Snyder County, PA and her age was given as 93, which makes her birth date sometime around 1787. I'm looking for her parentage.
Thanks, Len, appreciate the look-up.
I'm in Pennsylvania right now on a fact-finding trip. From comments that one family member made to me, I'm beginning to suspect that Elisabeth Treu's father was French, not German. Perhaps a soldier who stayed here after the war ended in 1763?
I did find a George Treu in Rockland Township, Berks County, PA. There are several baptisms recorded for him in the 1760-1790 period at Christ (Mertz's) Lutheran Church, and he also was a sponsor at a baptism in Lehigh Valley (close by) in 1762. There also was a Paul Treu whose son Gideon was baptized in May, 1787 in the same church. Do you have any records of French Treu descendants in this area? Rockland Twp is adjacent to Ruscombmanor Twp, where Christian Bingemann lived.
TIA,
Richard

He was married to Mary Jochem on May 15, 1897, in Milwaukee, and they had two children, Emil and Edward. The problem is, around 1917, he disappears from Milwaukee city directories and is nowhere to be found, even in the 1920 and 1930 Censuses! Death records also turned up nothing.
