Dear folks,

I thought I'd post to see who's available to share information about the Tougas dit Laviolette families around Vincennes. I'm having trouble making connections between the end of the St. Francois Xavier online records (1786) and the start of the census records with family members' names in 1850. I'd also like to share info about all my other French lines. My 3x great-grandmother Barbara Tougas dit Laviolette (1841 - 1880) was the daughter of Guillaume Tougas dit Laviolette (b. about 1808) and Julie Ann UNKNOWN. I don't know which Tougas was his father - can anyone help?

For some reason, I think we might have talked before...we share Barbara Tougas dit Laviolette m to Michel Bourdeleau (aka Mitch Birdlow); they were my 3rd great grandparents. I have done quite a study on them as well and will gladly discuss the family with you. There are still some questions about Julie Ann's parentage in my mind...and Guillarme's are not evident either..After talking with many other geniologists, they do not think he was part of the main tougas sect. I have my own thoughts on this one..

I have a book of baptisms from the St. Francis Xavier cathedral in Vincennes. It has this entry:

Tougas, Lous Stanislas - son of John Bte Tougas & (Catherine Campaux) - born 5-18-1779 baptized 5-19-1779

My third great-grandmother is Barbara Tougas dit Laviolette (1841 - 1880), daughter of William (baptized Guillaume) Tougas dit Laviolette (b. 1803), son of Guillaume Tougas and Genevieve Desloriers. Certainly we must be cousins from this line.

Excuse me - I misspelled Louis, and didn't note that "Bte." is short for Baptiste. Lots of "Jean Baptiste" fellows around Vincennes. :)
