First I would check the 1900 census and I would also write to the US govt.. if you are fairly certain that he served in the civil war...because you can get copies of his service records...it will also tell you about his will and if he had any service pensions.....You can check with your local library about getting the address of the National Archives..check with the newsapaper in Burlington about old death notices..and you can also go to the court house and obtain his death certificate as well as any old probate records.........Happy Hunting! I hope your still reading this message board because I was posting messages 1999 and in the first part of year 2000, about my GR GRANDFATHER Tougas who served in the civil war.I have a civil war picture but did not know his first name. The only Tougas any one could find(at that time) from that war was a William Tougas. So they said he had to be my relative.I sent for his war records and four months later,I recieved 20 historical papers of information on him.Clearly,he's not my gr grandfather. Can you believe there appears to be only two people who served with this spelling.Luckly for me we did find my relatives enlistment papers and I am now waiting for his information. But please contact me ,I do wish to give this infor. to his relatives. And this is the man your asking about.Thank You

Bonjour "cousin" J. Findling:

I would be very much interested indeed to receive the information you have on William Tougas...and on the other Tougas.
Since I have a fairly extensive data bank on the Tougas family, I could perhaps help you in your research on the Tougas family?
Please give me your e-mail adress and I'll send you my postal adress and fax number.
