Carol, Our line of Tomlins start with a John and Hannah born about 1785 in Kimpton Herts. Their son also John came to London Marylebone where he became a Master farrier. His son Charles Selman Tomlin b 1859 married my great aunt Hannah Louise Kilroy - they had eight children - any connection ? John Kilroy

Hello,
Just saw your message on the board. I have many Tomlin ancestors who came from the Essex area of England.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Do you happen to have any information about them? My Grandad was born in Elephant and Castle in London but I believe his family were from Essex originally. I don't have any names or anything so would like to explore this link. Also, what is the connection with Ireland (if there is one)? Look forward to your reply. Many thanks, Carole

Hello Carole,
SO far I haven't found any connection with Ireland at all. The whole family seems to have been born, married and died in Leigh on Sea in Essex. The men of the family were all fisherman.
Do you have access to www.genesreunited.com? I have my whole Tomlin tree on there at the moment.
If not, let me know and I'll download the GEDCOM file for you and send it on if you have the software to open it and also give me an email address.
Thanks
Kim

Hi, Deborah,
My husband, Patrick Currie is related to the Tomlins of Tooting, descended from James Currie who married Elizabeth Ann Tomlin about 1878. Their daughter, Edith Victoria, was Patrick's grandmother. She died in the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918/19, aged 24. Regards, Pauline.
