Alcey Blanton (according to my Legacy program) was my 1st cousin, 5 times removed. Her father David Blanton was brother to my direct-line ancestor Elisha Blanton, born (probably) in the late 1700's.

Thanks for the response. No! My only Todd ancestor, Andrew died when my great, great, great Grandfather was about 3 years old. Andrew's mother then married and Oldroyd. The new father adopted Andrew and we became Oldroyds.
I have always felt some kinship with Andrew and wanted to know his history.

No, I haven't found any connection back to Glasgow, but the Todds have been the most difficult branch of the family to trace past my great grandfather, whose name was Alley, also spelled Allie, with middle initial listed as both D. & L. in my research. Alley married a St. John, and I was very fortunate to meet a member of the St. John family who had researched the St. Johns back to Virginia & England, and wrote a book about his findings several years ago. He has given me a wealth of information on the Todds & St. Johns. I believe Alley was born about 1857; the 1870 census lists an Alley Todd living with Franklin & Malinda Todd, ages 52 & 56 respectively. Both Alley & his wife, Bettie, are buried in a small cemetery in Cannon County, TN. I was thrilled to be able to visit the cemetery a couple of years ago with the St. John who had researched his family. He had the identities of all the family members buried there, although the grave markers had been scattered and lost over the years. The cemetery is located up on a hill from where Alley & Bettie lived, and he knew where all the family's homes had been located.

I probably haven't helped at all with your research, but I'm glad to hear from another Todd, even if you may not be from my branch. Do you have any family who live or lived in Cannon County? I know there are quite a few Todds who aren't related to us, as far as I've been able to determine, but I might be able to give you info on someone if you give me names or other info you have.
Best of luck in your research--I've found it to be very addictive and am still hoping to find some of Alley's ancestors.

I believe the date on the tombstone of which I have a copy is incorrect. The Census records bear out the date of 1845 as James William Todd's DOB. I have some info on Jahaza Jane Cole's family, but am stuck prior to William Todd b. 1817 somewhere in Alabama.

My dad was your grandfather Eph's twin brother, and the annual visit to Tennessee by your dad and his family was the highlight of our summers when we were kids back when dinasaurs roamed the earth. I still have nothing other than this vague family tradition to suggest any connection between my Todd family and Paisley. I've been able to contact a few of my mother's cousins, but none of them had heard this tradition before.

My gggrandfather is James Monroe Todd born in Bertie County,NC in 1824 and died in Crockett County,TN in 1895. He was a Civil War soldier. His father is Aquilla Todd who was born in Bertie Cty,NC in 1797 and died in Alamo,TN in 1871. Don't know if they are related.

I have been trying to trace my Todd ancestors. My great, great Grandfather was Andrew Todd, born 1816 in Glasgow. He married Catherine Meikeljohn in 1840. Andrew died in 1847. After Andrew's death, his mother married Peter Liddle Oldroyd in 1850. Andrew's father was David Todd, born about 1870, and his mother was Catherine Graham, born about 1794. My problem is that I have been unable to find any information on anyone in the family before Andrew's birth or after his death. Nothing on his parents and/or siblings.

James Todd, farmer, residing in Fremont Township was born in Co. Armagh, Ireland, June 22, 1821 and was by trade a weaver. In 1845 he came to America and settled in Elgin, Illinois where he worked in a machine shop and was also for some time employed as a mason.

In 1856 he came to Iowa and took the claim of 160 acres on which he now resides. He had purchased 80 acres of timber prior to his claim and has bought 50 acres of land since.

Mr. Todd has taken great pains to make the farm attractive as well as convenient, having planted innumerbale trees of all descriptions, including evergreens, ornamental and shade trees, besides a fine orchard, and has the satisfaction of knowing that he has accumulated his property here, having commenced on a small scale.

He is a man who is respected by every one and has always been a prominent citizen, having filled many offices of trust in township and school affairs.

He was married in 1856 in Zanesville, Ohio to Miss Boles and has ten children living. Mrs. Martha Todd, the mother of the subject of this sketchm is the oldest lady in the county, being 95 years of age and resides in this township with her daughter, Mrs Robert Long. She came to Iowa fra Illinois five years later than her son James, and has resided with her children ever since. Her husband died in 1835.

Jospeh Todd, carpenter and joiner, Decroah, Iowa, was born in Co. Armagh, Ireland in 1825 and was by trade a weaver.

In 1849 he went to Montreal, Canada and two months after came to the states, locating in Elgin, Illinois, where he remainded three years and fra there to Decorah.

He established business as a carpenter and also erected a sash and blind factory, which he operated until 1879. He has enjoyed a good run of work as a carpenter and does country work as well as town. He has a good residence property in Decorah, where he sesides, also owns 40 acres of improved land in Fremont Township which he rents.

He was married in 1851 at Elgin, Illinois to Miss Mary J. Frizell and has five children: May, Clarence, Grace, Edith and Mabel.

Christopher Todd: Ireland to Iowa

He worked at his trade at Preston and Decorah until the breaking out of the war; then enlisted in Sept 1862 at Decorah, in Company D, 38th Iowa Infantry, under Colonel Hughes, and served 14 months; was at the siege of and surrender of Vicksburg. He was discharged in the fall of 1863, on account of sickness, at Carlton, Louisiana; then returned to Iowa and built on his farm and commenced improving it. It is now thoroughly improved and all under fence, fine large residence, good farm buildings, etc. He was married in 1866 at Decroah, to Miss Jane Gorman and they have one child, Martha Ella Todd.

I am researching my husband's family who moved from Paisley/Glasgow area in 1820. We have a manuscript his grandfather (born 1872) and aunt put together. The family came over during the weaver's revolts and moved to Canada in 1820 to Dalhousie and then to Innisfil. There was a Davidson Todd who would have been a great... uncle... Have you learned more??? or do you want more information? Some of the trees seem to have some confusion since they differ from what information we have.

BOERNE, Texas -- Beatrice Todd, 91, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at Town and County Manor, in Boerne.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus City. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Beatrice was born on November 9, 1909, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of John and Annie Duran Fowler. She married Horace Todd Sr. on April 25, 1930, in Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1988.

She had been a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Oskaloosa.

She was a matron for the former Julia Elizabeth Home for Widows in Muscatine for many years.

Survivors include her son, Horace Todd Jr. of Boerne; one sister, Helen Todd of Columbus Junction; and one brother, Ralph Fowler of Floresville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1988; two sons, Bobby Lee Todd and Elmer 'Tony' Todd; one sister, Isabelle Gabriel; and one brother, George Fowler.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

She married Lawrence Harding Todd on July 12, 1938, at Seymour, Webster County, Mo.

She worked as a nurse's aide at the former Bellevue Hospital and Nursing Home and for many years at the Dairy Queen on Park Avenue before retirement.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and a past member of the Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed embroidering and making quilts.

She is survived by four sons, Tommy C., Harold G. and wife, Eileen, Billy L. and wife, Sue, all of Muscatine and Vann H. and wife, Pat, of Verona, Mo.; a daughter, Dorothy I. Saddoris and husband, Glen H., of Eliza; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Cole, and wife, Delores, of Muscatine; three sisters, Mary Jo Denner of Marshfield, Mo., Lila Wright of Norwood, Mo. and Jewel Smith of Montana; and several nieces and nephews.

The Revs. Cathy Whitlatch and Larry Rath will officiate. Internment will follow at the Columbus City Cemetery.

The Cremation Society of Eastern, Central and Western Iowa is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Todd was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Oskaloosa, to John and Anna (Dunn) Fowler.

She married Rex B. Todd Feb. 29, 1936. He died Jan. 17, 1986.

She was a member of the Columbus City Methodist Church. She worked at Owens Brush and was a day care provider for many years. She liked to cook, was a great seamstress, enjoyed picking strawberries and most of all, loved the time spent with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Jones and Christine (Bill) Hedrick, both of Columbus City; two sons, Rexford (Cheryl) Todd of Columbus City and Ernie (Becky) Todd of Iowa City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Fowler of Floresville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 11 brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Burdette Jones.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Carolyn ‘Carrie’ M. Todd, 37, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Unity Hospital.

Following the services a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Illinois City Cemetery .

Carolyn Marie Todd was born on November 7, 1970 in Karamursel, Turkey, the daughter of Craig and Christene Campbell Newholm. On May 31, 1997, Carolyn was united in marriage to Anthony Todd in Muscatine.

Carolyn worked as the music director for the Trinity Episcopal Church and as a substitute para-educator for the Muscatine Community School District. She was a Girl Scout Leader and a service director for the Girl Scouts.

She enjoyed singing, scrapbooking, camping and spending time with her family.

Carolyn will be deeply missed by her husband, Anthony Todd of Muscatine; two daughters Allison Christene and Amie Louise Todd, both of Muscatine; her mother, Christene Hurlbert and her husband, Ron, of Williamsburg; her father, Craig Newholm and his wife, Lois of Marion; one brother, Cayle Campbell and his wife, Sandra of Marion; one step brother, Trevor Hurlbert of Cedar Rapids; one step-sister, Crystal Hurlbert of San Antonio, Texas.

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Martha Todd Thode, 92, of Columbus Junction, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

Martha Emily Davis was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Cotter, the daughter of Humphrey and Mable McBride Davis. On Dec. 16, 1933 Martha was united in marriage to Lonnie Todd in Cottter. He preceded her in death in 1966. In July 1972 Martha married Arles Thode in Davenport.

She was a farm wife for many years and had worked at Hansen Hardware and later at K-B Clothing in Davenport, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Cotter Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Friendly Neighbors Club of the Columbus Junction community. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family.

Thode will be dearly missed by her sons, Max Todd and wife, Marie of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary Todd and wife, Karen of Columbus Junction and Richard Todd and wife, Roberta of Elkhorn, Neb.; five grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonnie in 1966, her husband, Arles in 1976; two grandchildren; her brother, John Harold Davis; and her sister, Mary Hutch.

John TODD b. 1839 Ireland

Looking for John TODD. All I know about his background is that he was born in Ireland, apparently in 1839, and his father's name was James. Family lore has it that he had 2 brothers named Peter and Samuel. John, and maybe the 2 brothers, came to Canada (Ontario) in the early 1860s. He married Hannah ROOME (I haven't found their marriage record), and had several children. I have no trouble tracking their movements after 1867. But I know nothing about John before that date. The things that I do "know" are from census records and his death certificate. Does this John TODD sound familiar to anyone?

For some time, I've been searching for any leads to the owner of a Todd FAmily Bible that reportedly mentions a William and Elizabeth Todd as parents of the 6 Todd brothers of Pulaski Co born 1790-1801. Does anyone know about the whereabouts of this bible? It reportedly was given to Reuben Todd b 1852, but it may have been the bible of William and Polly Todd from whence it passed in 1831 to Charity Todd, widow of Joseph Todd, b abot 1792. assumed brother of William Todd b abt 1793.

I am still working on my family tree. I have my mothers' side, but still no luck with my biological fathers'. It is so hard to believe with the technology today, that I can't even run into someone who may have a clue. James Richard Todd is his name...Want family history. While stationed here in Hawaii, he dyed his hair red and that is what they called him. He also lived in Makakilo and drove a red MG. My mother believed he was from Orlando, Florida and Indiana. Please any help is useful.

Looking for information on Charles Henry Todd once married to Lupita Martinez. I know he has lived in, Texas, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Michigan to name a few locations. Was/is into Martial Arts. Lived in Oklahoma around 1973-76 time frame. Age between 60 and 80

The John Todd I'm looking for was in Ohio in the 1870 census and his age was 22. He was working as a farm laborer.
There was a daughter (of the farmer John worked for) who was also living there and she was 18.

By the 1989 census both John and the daughter had disappeared, leaving a 9 yr old son named William Walter Todd who was my ggf.

My suspicion is that John Todd and Marietta (daughter) married (or not) and she gave birth to William. At some point during that decade they both disappeared, leaving William with Marietta's family. I suspect they both died during those years.

My ggf never knew his parents, only that they came from PA

Is it possible that my John Todd is a son or nephew of your GGF?

My great grandfather, John Alexander Todd b in 1839 in Beaver Co. Pa. They moved to Ohio, His father William S. Todd and mother Lucinda Shivers. Is this a help?

I am iterested in your Todds from Durham. Is it Geoffrey Todd father of Thomas Todd? Some say that is where my ancestors came from to America. My ancestors came to Maryland and Virginia. Thomas died at sea.

Hello Stephanie -- The James Todd in my husband's ancestry came to Beaver, PA with his wife, Catherine Forbes, whom he married in Scotland. They settled there, raised a family, and died there. I know nothing about a wife, named Julia Keller, and also about a James and Jon Forbes, who were named in your query.

Do you think there is a connection with your James Todd?

As far as I know And all the paper work I have there is no listing of parents for James and Jon Forbes. Though I have not finished looking through the manny boxes and papers. I am trying to find my grandmothers siblings. 11 in all. There is mention of an Ira U (or W) born in June 1883. I believe it was in Osgood, MO. His parents names were John Kelly Todd and Juda Ralls. My grandmothers name was Lydia Gabrilla Todd, but she went by Gay. She married a Stonaker. If this helps please let me know as I have lost track of this side of the family as well. I have heard whispers about the Montana branch of the family. The Todds I know live in CA today. This is where Ebert Todd moved from Clarksdale, DeKalb, MO. at the age of 5. According to family lore and research, they were living in Stockton, CA with another branch of the Todd family as of 1880. Isaac Todd, Ebert's father was Married to Joanna Rock Porter (Todd). In later years he married Hannah...madien/surname uncertain.

I'm researching my husband's family and have a letter written by his great grandfather, David B. Todd dated 1914. It lists his father as Joab Todd born in Madison Co Kentucky in 1812. Joab Todd's father was Jesse Todd, and Grandfather Peter Todd. Jesse Todd moved to Howard Co MO after the 1812 war ended - married an Isabel Dalton.
Joab todd married a Mary Atteberry and the families moved to DeKalb Co MO.
The letter mentions large families (10 to 11 children) but no names. If anyone has further information on this branch of the Todds I would love to hear from you. My husband's grandfather (Ira Todd) died at a fairly early age (in Montana)and they lost contact with that portion of the family over the years.

I am looking for information on the death and burial location of Charity Frances Todd; b: 1885 in Kentucky and d: 1951 in Marion County, Indiana.

Born Charity Frances Ball in 1885, she first married James Sutton and had four children that survived and one that died at birth.

I have found some information that tells me that Charity remarried sometime before she died in 1951 to a man named Mr. Todd; outside of that I do not know anything further.

I am looking for information on my Grandmother’s death and burial location. Could someone help me with this search?

Hi. I'm also a descendant of Irene Todd (Mazarene Irene Royal Todd).

Her son Cornelius Benjamin Todd -> Greer Todd -> Edith Todd Ford -> Zarvis Thomas Ford, Jr. (Tom) -> Me

She was buried in a farm graveyard near Loris, SC. Unfortunately... it was bulldozed and destroyed. The headstones I believe are moved to a church now. My dad has a picture of hers (he thinks) but will have to look for it. Hope that helps!

Is there some Indian farther back in that line? I think my grandma always wondered about that (I think her great-grandma Irene had a slightly darker complexion?)

You may want to mention my grandmother's name: Agnes Todd, she was married to Benjamin Todd. I am really trying to locate information about my great=grandfather Issac Todd. He is suppose to buried somewhere in Lewisburg, KY. I have done quite a bit of research since this email was posted; however, I am still trying to find out where he might be buried. Let me know what you find out.
