Trying to find any info about George Meanwell Todd my Great Grandfather born 11 Mar 1840 in Ludford Lincs. Mother was Rebecca Todd but was raised by Martha Meanwell. Possibilty that a Meanwell was his father as all his children had Meanwell as a middle name. I have reached a dead end so any info would be welcome. George was a blacksmith & publican in Louth, Lincs.

Thanks for all the help. I was trying to establish proof of parentage, which I have now done through his grandfather's will. He was the illegitemate son of Robert Meanwell (father John Meanwell) & Rebecca Todd.

I am researching my late wife's family tree. George Meanwell Todd was her great great grandfather. You appear to know a lot about him and I am hoping that you will be willing to share some information. The will you mention sounds interesting, for example. Are there any photos of George? My wife's sisters, descended from George's daughter Martha (Wright) still live in the Grimsby area.

Any help gratefully received. Terry White

Martha Meanwell Todd (reg Sep 1870 Maidenwell, Lincs) was one of 12 children born to George Meanwell Todd & Mary Ann Austin. According to my info she married John Wright Sep 1894 in Louth & I have 5 children for her, Selina, Ethel, Henry, Annie & Nelley. I guess your late wife was descended from one of those. As for George he is the son of Robert Meanwell & a Rebecca Todd. They were never married & George was raised by his aunt Martha Meanwell. His father died young but His grandfather John Meanwell recognised him in his will as Robert's child even though he was illegitatemate(rare for those days!). This gave me the line back to the rest of the Meanwell's (I have a tree back to the 17th century). If you have access to Genes Reunited or let me have an email I will willing share any info (yes I do have a photo of George).
