thank you very much, this might help. My grandma was born May 13,1884, given name Marie Timm. As far as I know her father was married twice and Emma was from the first marriage along with my grandma. I have a copy of my grandma's wedding certificate and it gives her mom as Mary Haussen. My grandma married Mike Timm in Stony Plain Alberta Canada Aug. 6,1905.

My aunt Johanna - maiden name Balkau, born 1925 - was looking for her aunt for a very long time. This aunt of Balkau family immigrated to Northern America. She was never found. Unfortunately nobody of us knows the name of the woman and the destination.

My ancestors lived in Poland near Pultusk(also called Ostenburg) about 75 km NNE from Warschau in Marianowo, Dozin and Adamowo near the river Narew. The families of Sonnenberg and Timm also lived is this area. I know an daughter of the last teacher of Marianowo Sonnenberg. She lives not far away.

Can you give me some further informations? Please e-mail me! Thanks a lot!!

I am looking for info on Frederick W.Timm born 1865 who emigrated from Germany. He was a railroad engineer in Nebraska in the 1880s. His wife Frances (maiden name unknown)was born 1860 in Wertemburg Germany. I'm not sure when he emigrated. but I know they were married in 1881 in Dodge county Wisconsin.
Did John/Johann's brother, Frederick, come to the US, too?

Thanks for the information from your grandfather. I know my great grandfather, Fred D. (I don't think he was a Frederick and his son (my grandfather) was named Fred William and my uncle was Fred William, Jr.) moved out to Washington, but I hadn't heard anything about his younger brother, Frank, moving out there, too. I know that Eunice was very interested in finding out about Frank, so I will pass this information on to her. Frank must have been the postmaster because Fred D. had an orchard when he lived in Peach, WA and then when he moved to Spokane, he did pruning and other such activities to earn his living.

I wish that I had talked to my grandfather more about his family when he was alive. He died when I was around 8 years old and the only family member I remember him talking about was his mother. He always said that she was a "full blooded Indian"--I think he said either Cherokee or Apache, but knowing "Bobo" (grampa), it was Apache. He had a great interest in anything Native American and my mom told me he had quite a collection of Indian artifacts, but at one point had stored them at his sister Minnie's home and she got tired of storing them and sold them. Bobo was furious! BUT, his mother was not Cherokee or Apache or what we would consider Native American! She came from Mexico. I don't think he was lying to deceive people, I just think he totally romanticized her into being Native American--though she certainly could have been an Aztec, Incan, Mayan--whichever group was from Mexico. Bobo never talked about his dad that I recall and I don't remember my mom ever talking her grandfather. I could kick myself for not asking more questions when everyone was still alive!

Hello Loretta.

I'm afraid I can't help you with this particular Timm. While there are certainly quite a few Timms in WI (I was told by Fred Timm, who published "Timm Times", that Timm Hill is the highest point in that state), the Timms from which I am descended lived in the Buffalo NY area (Blasdell) for the first three generations.

We have a Herman Timm in our family, but he was born in the U.S. around the same time the Herman Timm you are looking for was born in Germany.

Hmm, no wonder I was confused. As you may be aware, John/Johann had a brother Frederick, who in turn had Frederick Jr., who in turn had Frederick J.

As I mentioned, Joe Timm provided me information about his family tree, which is why I was confused because he's descended from the brother, while you're descended from the eldest son from the first marriage.

My grandfather Franklin E. Timm Sr told me that the two brothers from the first marriage left New York and went west to Washington. IIRC, my grandfather also said that one of them was a postmaster. You know anything about that?

Hi Russell,

John/Johann, from what Eunice has shared with me, had three wives. The first wife, Anna, came over from Germany with him. They had at least two boys, my Fred D. and Frank. Anna may have had a daughter as well, but I'm not sure. Amongst John's three wives, he had a whole slew of children! I think Anna died when Fred D. and Frank were young and he remarried. Fred and Frank left home when they were able to. I'm not sure if Fred went straight out to Washington or if he stopped anywhere along the way, but I don't think anyone knows where Frank ended up. I know Eunice has tried to find information about him. I don't think Fred D. ever went back to New York, but I believe that Fred D.'s two daughters, Ruth and Minnie, went to New York to visit relatives. I think I saw photos of them with their NY relatives.

You can email me at dianeblodgett@yahoo.com.
Re: Fredrick timm of Germany

Hello Diane, thanks for that information. I haven't communicated with Eunice in several years.

I was looking at my records last night, and if I recall correctly Johann (John) had two sons, Frederick and John. Several years ago I got in tocuh with Joe Timm from Savannah, GA who provided me with Frederick's family tree.

I and Eunice descended from John's line through his third wife, Ernestina Griebenow. It is my understanding that John did not have any children through his first two wives. (You probably now this, but I'm "writing for posterity" as it were). While Eunice is descended from John's son George "Stewart" Timm, I'm a descendant of George's younger brother Carl. Carl had 13 children IIRC, including my grandfather Franklin Edward. Only my pa and the youngest child Dave are alive now, and my pa turns 86 on May 5th. Hopefully, I'll share that longevity (both my grandmothers are also still alive, and my pa's wife Helen (Nansteel) turns 87 on May 27 (my wife's 37th birthday...makes it easy to remember, haha).

When I get a chance, I'll post the tree I have and perhaps you can make any corrections.

Russell S. Timm

Hi,

I am also a distant cousin of Eunice and a bit closer cousin of Teresa. Teresa's grandmother and my mother were first cousins. My grandfather was Fred William Timm and my great grandfather was Fred D. Timm. Fred D.'s father was John or Johann Timm who came over from Necheln, Mecklinburg, Germany in the first half of the 1800's. Fred D. was John's oldest son. Fred D. left NY and moved out to Washington State. He settled in Peach, Washington with his wife, Tomasa Uribe Timm. Peach is no longer there--it was flooded when the Grand Coulee Dam was built. The Peach Cemetery is still there, though, and my great grandmother and two daughters are buried there. My great grandmother died in childbirth along with her baby. My great grandfather, Fred D., was left with 4 small children--my grandfather was the oldest and was maybe 6 years old or so.

I've probably given more information than you wanted. Eunice really has a great amount of the family history.

Diane

Hi there.

There are two crests I have seen. One is for the German Timms and the other for the English Timms. The German one is (supposedly) a dancing black bear facing to the left on a field of yellow.

Hi there.

From what I gathered from a genealogy product I bought several years ago, "Timm" comes from one of two sources: It is derived from "theudemar", an older German word meaning "famous among your people" and/or it is an occupational name, being an abbreviated form of "Zimmerman", which means "carpenter" in German (thus, probably Timm, Timms, Timmer, Timmerman, Zimm, Zimmer, and Zimmerman are somewhat related).

While I can't speak for all Timms, I know in my family's case it's definitely the latter, as my great-grandfather and at least two of his brothers were carpenters.

Form what I've gathered, most of the Timms are from Pommerania (Pommern in German), an area of north-west Germany around Berlin I think (and you'll find many Timms in that area of Germany today). Like many Germans, quite a lot of Timms left Germany in the early and mid 1800's through the port of Hamburg.

Russell S. Timm

Do you have a Gustov, perhaps born around 1860-70? He died sometime around 1910, leaving 8 children and my great-grandmother who remarried before 1920. This is my worst "brick wall".

I have been helping John Timm of Moxee, Washington research this branch of the Timm family. He descends from a brother of Anna Timm Fahrenkrug and we have done extensive researh on this family. They came from Germany to Winnebago County, Wisc about 1880. Please contact me about what you would like to know.

Richard Kyle

Unfortunately, nothing you have said in your message ties in with my records. From what I can determine the surname Theime (Timm) was as commmon in Prussia as Smith and Jones are here.
