It starts with my grandfather (Norbert Paul Jon Thoma) whom has 2 brothers (Joseph and Leo0 and a sister (Rose). His father (my great grandfather) Leo edward thoma/feb 24, 1882/ Pittsburgh, pa and his mother Josephine mary hillenbrand/ april 16, 1891/pittsburgh, pa.

It then goes up one more to the fathers parents whom are Joseph thoma/wexford, Pa/1851 and Rose Schmitt/Alegheny, pa/
1855. They had 6 kids Joseph, valentine, clara, anthony, marcella, elizabeth and leo (my great grandfather)

it goes up one last step to Joseph Thoma's parents
The name of the father is _andelin 9first letter is cut off) from Baden, Germany and the mother is Gertrude brucker from baden, germany

If anyone has any more info please pass it on. Thank you so much

-Missy

Carol,

After communicating with you I decided to look for the picture of Estelle that my cousin sent several years ago.
It was taken in 1963 at my Aunt Annie's house. It has been quite a while since I looked at it.. on the back of the picture my cousin had written EMMA ESTELLE THOMA 1963
I never knew she was known by Emma. Sorry I did not remember that.

I really think this is the Estelle you are looking for.

If you want this picture I can scan it in and email it to you if you send your email address.

I am Bessie Marie Haynes daughter. I have been trying to find anyone related to my Grandfater Isaac Alex Haynes for a long time, I seem to remember an Aunt Ruth, my middle name is Ruth she is who I was named after. I am sorry I don't have much more info on Estelle Thoma. Perhaps the census put Emma instead of Estelle? Nice to find a long lost cousin.
Did Isaac Alex have a brother named William? It seems I recall my mother saying they were from Middle Tenneasee.
I have a list of my aunts and thier children if you are interested.

Still not clear. SSDI:
Name: David Triplett
SSN: 432-46-8833
Last Residence: 71921 Amity, Clark, Arkansas, United States of America
Born: 18 Sep 1885
Died: Jan 1968

That David R. Triplett is buried in Sweet Home Cemetery, Amity, (Clark Co), Arkansas and is listed as the husband of Mary Margaret "Maggie" Rowan. David and Maggie are in the 1920 & 1930 census in (Clark Co), Arkansas.

The other David L. Triplett, SSDI:
Name: David Triplett
SSN: 544-36-6709
Last Residence: 63935 Doniphan, Ripley, Missouri, United States of America
Born: 25 Oct 1897
Died: Sep 1969

This David L Triplett and Emma are in St Louis for the 1920 census and Ripley Co, MO for 1930. But they are buried in Ripley Co.

So is there a third David Triplett ? Sorry to be a pain, just trying to tie the correct information to Estella Thoma. My line is from the Haynes family. Isaac Alex Haynes is the brother to my great-grandmother Ruth M. Haynes.

Estella Thoma was my grandmother. She left my grandfather and my mother and sisters to marry David Tripplet. This is all the iformation I have on her.

Estella "Estill" C. THOMA was born on 04 Sep 1891 in Boonville, Cooper County, Missouri. She moved with her family to Biggers, Arkansas in 1906. It was there that she met and married ISAAC ALEXANDER HAYNES. They were married on 14 Apr 1907 in Randolph County, Arkansas. Mr. Haynes was born in 1883 in Holmes, Randolph County, Arkansas. This is believed to have been a brief marriage and it is only mentioned in passing in the family records. Estella was only 16 years old at the time and there is a court order attached to the marriage record. She later married Dave TRIPLETT.
Dave and Estella moved to St. Louis, Missouri where they lived until 1922. They then moved to Neelyville, Missouri and were they were known to be living during the years 1926 to 1933. They had moved to and were living in Popular Bluff, Missouri in 1947 and 1959, and finally to Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas
Estella died in Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas and is buried in Arkansas. David was born on 18 Sep 1885. He died in Arkansas in Jan 1968 and is buried there.
Hope this is some help.

I have seen information here that people are listing from two different David Triplett's.

1. David Love Triplett married Emma E. Thoma 15 Jun 1921 (Jefferson Co), Missouri. Both David and Emma are buried in Amity Cemetery, (Ripley Co), Missouri. David L. Triplett 25 Oct 1897 - Sep 1969 and Emma E. Triplett 1893 - 1971.

2. David Raford Triplett married Mary Magdalene Rowan. Both are buried in Sweet Home Cemetery, Amity, (Clark Co), Arkansas. David R. Triplett 18 Sep 1885 - 11 Sep 1968 and Maggie Triplett 10 Aug 1888 - 24 Feb 1962.

So which David Triplett married Estella C. Thoma that was first married to Isaac Alex Haynes and just left that family ? She was not with her children or husband in 1920.

Phillip Toma 5/9/1838, Ohio > Iowa; Sarah Fordice Toma

PHILIP THOMA, section 36, Highland Township. Among the many busy tillers of the soil will be found the subject of this personal sketch. He was born in Richland County, Ohio, May 9, 1838, and is the son of John and Susanna (Tetters) Thoma, who were both natives of Pennsylvania, but of German descent. John Thoma was born in Bucks County, Pa., Nov. 16, 1798, and was the father of two children: Mary E., the wife of Henry Ray, and Philip, the subject of this sketch. The former is now deceased. Mrs. Thoma, the mother, died in 1843, and is buried in the Bunker Hill cemetery in Richland County, Ohio.

Philip Thoma is well worthy of representation in this volume, for his many excellent qualities of head and heart. Almost form childhood he took entire care of his father, and is entitled to great credit on account of his filial gratitude and affection. When lying upon his death-bed, his father called him to his side and said, "Philip, I am going home," and even as he gave his last blessing, his spirit returned to its Maker. His death occurred Aug. 28, 1887. Philip had cared for him during the last thirty years.

The early life of the subject of this sketch was spent upon a farm, and his education was received in the old log school-house, with puncheon floors, slab seats, greased paper for windows, and corresponding furniture. At the age of sixteen he began life for himself, and ever afterward adopted the plan that "Honesty is the best policy," or at least, the best principle. He first rented a farm in his native State, but decided to come West, and in 1857 came to Iowa County, Iowa, and bought forty acres of land, where he remained for a short time, then, in 1869, bought 120 acres upon section 36 in Highland Township, on which he built a frame building, and began improvements by setting out a large number of trees and shrubbery which are now admired by the stranger. While hauling the building material for his house Mr. Thoma often heard the wolves howling in the prairie grass, which was then higher than the horses' backs. He has since made additions to his farm, until he no owns 200 acres of good land, with all the necessary buildings for a well-regulated farm, together with all the modern farm machinery. He has a fine lot of graded horses, cattle and hogs, and is second to none as a farmer in Washington County. He is a public-spirited man, and his time and money are ready to help in all measures that tend to the advancement and education of society. By his timely assistance many have been aided on the road to prosperity, and notwithstanding all his adversities he has steadily advanced his own interests. Politically, he is a stanch Republican, plain and outspoken in his views, though honest and charitable to a fault.

On the 14th of April, 1861, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah E. Fordice, a native of McLean County, Ill., born Dec. 31, 1842, and the daughter of John and Mary (Dean) Fordice, who were both natives of Ohio, but of Scotch descent. Mr. and Mrs. Thoma have been blessed with six children: Mary E., born Dec. 9, 1861, the wife of Irvin Scott, a farmer in Iowa Township, Washington County; John P., born May 11, 1862; Amy S., born March 29, 1863, is the wife of James Y. Foster, a farmer of Highland Township; George W., born Dec. 5, 1867; Ulysses S., born Sept. 19, 1869; Maggie L., born Dec. 18, 1871, died Oct. 17, 1875.

Mr. and Mrs. Thoma are members of the United Brethren in Christ, are ever forward in Christian duty, and their good works will live in coming years. It is in such homes as this that many have cheerfully endured the privations and heroically borne the many burdens alotted the pioneers of Washington County. Mr. Thoma never sought office, but has filled several of the various township offices. He has been one of the many whose push and perseverance have made good homes out of the wild lands of the West.

Portrait and Biographial History of Washington County Iowa
1887
pages 487-488

If he was born in Germany and his wife in Austria, my guess is that he was born in Bavaria which is next to Austria. There were/are Thoma families in Bavaria. Sometimes the families in Bavaria spelled their surname "Thomae". Did you look on the LDS (Mormon) web site Family Search? Membership or registration is not necessary to do searches.
Erven Thoma

Seems like trying to find anything on the Thoma's is like pulling teeth. They seem to be non-existant.
My name is Beverly A. Thoma-Bullock. My grandfather John Thoma was born in Germany and his wife, Anna (Lindner) was from Austria. I never knew John, I think he died before I was born but as it goes can't find out anything. They're both buried in Massachusetts. She was living in Stoddard, NH when she died. If you have any ideas I'd be glad to hear them. I'm exasperated. Sincerely, Beverly

Yes, I know who you are. You are Bridget Keyes. Your mother was my best friend growing up. The last time I saw her was in like 1978/79 and she was with a black man in Richmond California and had a baby girl that died of heart problems. my email address is vbarbeau@winterskye.com and my phone is 503 352-5720. I had a feeling that Linda had passed away, I will tell you about it when we talk. I visited her a few times when she and you lived in Shore Acres. It was a strange time. Linda and I grew up together and were very close. Do you know if your grand mother Shirley is still living? And what about your step brother his name was Kelo and lived with Shirley.

Did she go to Mt. Diablo High School (or something like that) if it is the same person, she is my mother and she died around 1985 I believe. Her parents were Harold and Jean Thoma, who lived in Concord, CA. If this is the same person you are looking for I would like to hear some stories you have about her since I really never got to know her that well, I was raised by my father.

Dorothy Thoma

I am researching my great-grandmother, Dorothy Thoma I do not yet know her parents' names, but I am trying to find this out. Dorothy and her family came to the United States from (I think) Baravia Germany when she was a young girl. Other Thoma children were: Lawrence, Annie Tillie. They settled in Pennsylvania and Dorothy eventually married John Meier. John had two children from a previous marriage (Hilda Carl), and they had 3 children of their own: Catherine (my grandmother), Joe and Ed. Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Kilian Catherine Thoma

I have located my gggrandparents in "Germans to America". Kilian Catherine Thoma arrived on April 10, 1881 from Bavaria. They traveled on the ship "Koeln"; manifest ID# 15844; final destination was Baltimore. Kilian was listed as a farmer, age 43. Catherine's occupation was "unknown" and was age 45. Their children were: John (age 10), Dorothea (age 8), Mathilde (age 6), Lorenz (age 4), and Anna (age 2).

I am trying to find information on the ship Koeln--cannot find it on any of the transcribed list. Anyone out there know anything about it?

Also, if Kilian Catherine Thoma should fit into your research, please e-mail me at lbraund@fyi.net

Thanks!

There are two in the 1880 census. A Gallus Toma and a Gallus Thoma. I believe the Gallus Toma (married to Verona Meier) was my great-great grandfather. It was a bit confusing because according to the 1880 census both Gallus's had daughters named Agnes born within about one year of eachother. My great-grandmother was Agnes Toma. Based upon the spelling in a family bible and finding a baptismal record for a sister that matches up with the Gallus Toma (no h) I believe that is my family line. I don't know who his parents were. I know he came from Switzerland where it appears that Gallus Toma was a very common name.

I have a bit of info on Edward Wagner who married Cletus Sauer. They lived in Sanborn N.D. and had two children. John and Mary Ann. John lives in Valley City N.D. and Mary Ann is married and lives in the vicinity. I don't know exactly where. Edward and Cletus have both passed away. She was a cousin of mine through my Dad's side of the family.

If your records connect up to this ancestor of my family tree, please contact me.

I know that Catherine THOMA was born 11 April 1845, in Pittsburgh, PA and that around 1867 she md Valentine BLANK. Together they had about 12 children.

Both Catherine and Valentine are buried at St. Mary's RC Cemetery, Penn Ave. Lawrenceville PA.
