Thoma Family

Vickie Green  (View posts) Posted: 13 Dec 1999 3:25PM GMT
My maternal Great Grandmother was Juliana(sp?) Thoma born 2/15/1870 in
Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany. She had 3 brothers and 2 sisters (Mary Thoma,
Al Thoma, Augusta Thoma Biittner, Anton Thoma and Chris Thoma. Her mother's
first name was Katherine. I know they came to America and settled in the Midwest
but I'm not sure about Katherine's husband as nothing is mentioned.

I am interested in finding someone who is related to any of the above sisters and
brothers. Thanks to one and all.

I'm wondering if any of the Thomas that you talk about could have lived in Illinois, specifically Elmhurst. The Thomas used to live in my house, and we are trying to find out about the family, also who lived in the house before 1928. I would be very grateful if you could send me any information that you might have.
Thank you,
Liz

It could be a possibility that someone lived in Elmhurst, Illinois on their
way to Iowa. So far I have been unable to find out exactly when in 1879 they
left Germany. I have a couple of leads to check out and maybe I can find out
some information that way. I will keep your e-mail and if I find something I
will let you know. A better e-mail to reach me at is vgreen_84115@yahoo.com

Liz,
I have some relatives that would have lived in the Aurora area. I don't know if this is in the same area you are speaking of, but I thought I would give it a shot. It would have been John and Anna Thoma around 1858 or 57. Good Luck in your search.

This could be something-- My husband's gggrandfather's name was Chris Thoma, DOB unknown, but estimated about 1870. He was born in Germany, emigrated to the US at age 12, and the family settled in Minnesota. He married Mary and their children included: Herbert, Mary, William Art and Genivieve. That's absolutely all the information I have. What do you think?

Seems like trying to find anything on the Thoma's is like pulling teeth. They seem to be non-existant.
My name is Beverly A. Thoma-Bullock. My grandfather John Thoma was born in Germany and his wife, Anna (Lindner) was from Austria. I never knew John, I think he died before I was born but as it goes can't find out anything. They're both buried in Massachusetts. She was living in Stoddard, NH when she died. If you have any ideas I'd be glad to hear them. I'm exasperated. Sincerely, Beverly

If he was born in Germany and his wife in Austria, my guess is that he was born in Bavaria which is next to Austria. There were/are Thoma families in Bavaria. Sometimes the families in Bavaria spelled their surname "Thomae". Did you look on the LDS (Mormon) web site Family Search? Membership or registration is not necessary to do searches.
