I too have the last name Solis. But I only know that my father was born in Zacatecas,Mexico. He has 2 younger brothers and his mother,Maria Granados and his father, name unknown split and my grandmother Maria Granados brought her oldest son here to california, san fernando valley. But my mother told me she had a very hard time bringing him over because back in the days when my father was young, born 1951,it was not easy without the permission of the father to migrate children. So when she brought his 2 younger brothers sal and louie she changed thier last names to Granados. My uncle Sal recently changed his last name back to Solis.H served in the army and my uncle Louies served in the marines. My father and mother split when I was a baby,he never looked for my 2older sister's and I.He was hit by a car as he was walking along McBean road at night in Valencia california at night time in 1985.He died at Henry Mayo Hospital.I do not remember him at all I was around 8yrs old. Before he died he was mainly taken care of by my great grandmother Maria J Montes born 1913 AND died 1995 in the Rinaldi Convalescent hospital in the san fernando valley.

Well I don't know how much help I can be but I do know that Geraldo Solis (born abt 1800 Mexico) is the father of Luis Solis. As far as the children of Luis Solis, the only match is Jose Maria Solis De Leon (born 2/18/1871 Saltillio Coa, died 6/9/1948 Hidalgo, TX). The other children I have for Luis Solis are Geralda (abt 1867), Casimira (abt 1869), Gregoria (March 1875), and Guadalupe (unknown) Solis. I am thinking that there may be more than one marriage for Luis Salinas.
My husband's family line is from Emilia Solis Salinas (born 8/6/1909, died 4/3/2000) who had 8 children. Emilio Salinas (born 8/8/1930, died 4/3/2000), Luis Beltran Salinas - my husband's father (born 11/23/1932, died 7/7/1994), Maria Gloria Salinas (living), Frank Salinas (living), Guillermo Salinas (born 2/9/1940, died 7/15/2003), Jose Alfredo Salinas (living), Esmeralda Salinas (living), and Gilberto Salinas (living). Of the 8 children there are 22 grandchildren and more than 25 great grandchildren.
Emilia and Ubence Salinas had property in Sebastian, Willacy county, Texas where all of the 8 children were born and raised.
I wanted to thank you for filling in some of the gaps to our Solis family line as this was the first time I have come across any confirmed connections in the threads.
I am working on our family lineage for my children and our family but it is a difficult study. You can check this progress on our family web site www.salinasfamilyroundup.com

Solis Family from Baja California

Hello! I am looking for information on my great-grandfather Samuel Solis and his wife Grazia Aruz. I believe they are from the San Vicente, Baja California. Their son, Carlos Solis Aruz was my grandfather but he passed away before I was born. My father doesn't know anything about his family, so I've been searching and searching to no avail. My grandmother is planning on taking me to visit my grandfather's only sister that is left in the summer but I don't know what kind of information she has. If these names catch your eye please contact me. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Elisa,
I believe that Alberto's parents were Dolores Solis (b Feb 1844) and Delfina Cantu (b1853, d1940 San Jose Ranch). I don't have any info yet on Cecilia Cavazos' parents. I found this info on the 1880 Hidalgo County Census. Dolores and Delfina had 13 children (Alberto, Josefa, Adela, Joaquin, Andrea, Rafael, Angela, Francisca, Santos, Timoteo, Guadalupe, Maria and Teresa).
Dolores Solis' parents were Mateo Solis and Crisanta Cano. Crisanta's parents were Feliciano Cano and Salome Talamantes. Delfina's parents were Bruno Cantu and Teodacia (no maiden name found yet).
Regards,
Danny C.

Solis/Vallejo Family line

I am currently beginning research on the Solis family name. However I have very little info as most of the family does not remember any names beyond a generation or two back.

All I have is a Rosa Vallejo Solis. I believe her mother's maiden name was Vallejo. I believe she was born in Texas in 1901. She married Narcisco Navarro. I think he was born in Mexico in 1893 but I do not have a specific location for that. Rosa and Narcisco ended up Tulare, California and had 8 children:Jeffe Jesus, Maria, Jose Vallejo, Odelia, Narcisco Jr., Guadalupe, Nymoha (Ninfa), and Omero (Homer). Rosa passed away in 1985 and Narcisco passed away in 1990.

If anyone has any more information that might be connected to this Solis the help would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

My father's name is Frank Solis and we live in the Willacy County area of deep South Texas.

As far as I know, my great great grandparents names were Luis Solis and Gertrudis M. de Solis. Luis was born and raised in South Texas as far as I know, and Gertrudis is originally from Mexico. I am not sure what her maiden name was. Luis was burn circa 1851 and died young in 1880. Gertrudis was born circa 1841 and died in 1905. I am unable to fully verify the age of Gertrudis because I am not one-hundred percent sure information was entered properly when she came to the states.

Luis and Gertrudis had four children named: Jose Maria Solis (My great grandfather), Juan Solis, Luis M. Solis, and Francisco Solis who were all born in the 1870's. Jose Maria Solis passed away in 1948, Juan in 1961, Luis M. in 1947, and Francisco passed in 1921. There was another sister named Rafaela, but I cannot verify that she was born before Luis passed away.

At one time, according to the 1900 United States Federal Census, Gertrudis lived as the head of the household with her four sons: Jose, Francisco, Juan, Luis, and her daughter Rafaela. Two grandchildren named Luis Solis and Maria Solis lived with them as well as two adopted children named Delfina Pacheco and Catarina Rodriguez who were two and three years younger than Rafaela.

My grandfather, Jose Maria Solis, married three times. Two of his wives passed away while married, and his third outlived him. The first woman, who's surname I do not know, was named Guadalupe. The second wife's (My great grandmother) name was Esmeralda Longoria. According to the information that I have, she was born circa Christmas day 1882 and passed away on May 1st 1914. Unfortunately, I do not know anything else about the Longoria side of my family.

Esmeralda and Jose had six children together. Their names are as follows: Beatriz, Jose M. Solis Jr., Charley L. Solis (My Grandfather), Reynaldo L. Solis, Lily Solis Garcia, and Emilia Solis Salinas. According to my Grandfather, Reynaldo and Lily were twins.

My grandfather went on to marry Ofelia Garcia and they had five children.

I just recently began researching my family lineage, and I am extremely interested in hearing anything that anyone out there can tell me about my family. I understand that my research will most likely eventually lead me into Mexico, so if anyone has any tips or advice that they can offer me, it will be more than appreciated. Thank You.
My name is Alejandro Solis, my mother is Maria Mercedes Valentin and her parents; my Grandmother-Juana Colon and my Grandfather-Anicasio Valentin were both from Lares Puerto Rico. From my understanding my grandfathers descendents are from the Canary Islands. On the other hand my father-Marcos Solis was born 1930 i think in Patillas, P.R.- his parents were; my grandmother-Perfecta Ramos and my grandfather-Jose "Eleno" Alejandro Solis. I have Aunts and Uncles living in Patillas to this day together with their children and grandchildren. If any one has more information about our family and about where the Solis blood line came from before Puerto Rico I'll be more than happy to share more information about our family.
Do you know where in Mexico your father was born? Do you know the names of his parents or who his siblings were? I am looking for a Miguel Solis. I don't know much about him. Only that his father was Felipe Solis. He had about 7 or 8 siblings, Moses, Margarita, Lola are the only names I know of. Last thing my family knew was that he was living in Carlsbad, NM. Does any of this sound familiar to you?

But last I know when he passed away, he was living in Missouri. I have a brother, Alejandro. Sisters, Margarita, Bertha, Rosalinda, twins>>Sylvia(myself)and Yolanda, Violeta. And no doubt, half-brothers (probably one named Joseph)and/or half-sisters.
Mike and my mom(Eulogia)were married and lived in San Antonio,Texas til about the year 1960 when my mom separated from my dad. I was born in San Antonio 1955.
I'm not looking for nobody. Just felt like adding to the SOLIS ancestry.

SOLIS IN LA PAZ?

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother, Guadalupe Solis she was from La Paz Mexico. Not much is known about her except she was kidnapped by her aunt Mercedes when she was a very young girl and brought to San Diego, Cali. to be a servant when she ws a very young girl. She did not even remember her parents herself. I do not know her birthdate, but my grandmother was born in 1919 so that may give you an idea. This is a long shot but maybe someone might know something, Thanks!

I'm am looking for Mora's. My grandfather's name was Hipolito Mora and we think he was born in Johnson City Texas. He was adopted but not legally. So, other than the name he kept we don't have anything to go on. We do know he was probably the youngest of many children and it was the great depression era.

If you are still reading these message boards, I thought I would let you know that you are correct. The Spanish Solises were Sephardic Jews who left Spain for Portugal, converted to Catholicism, and married into the royal family.
Specifically, the daughter of the King married a Fonseca and one of their descendents married a Solis. They secretly led lives as maranos (fake conversos) and when discovered fled to Amsterdam, then London and then in 1810 Jacob Fonseca da Silva Solis came to the U.S. He started the first synagogue in New Orleans but it failed financially. His descendents married other sephardic jews in the New York/Philadelphia areas. First cousins (approximately 4 generations removed) include Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Cardozo (for whom my son is named) and poetess Emma Lazarus of Statue of Liberty fame.
