Snyder family in Dayton, Ohio

Hello,
My name is Kyle Rambo. My great grandparents are George Ronald Snyder (1933-2000) and Sylvia Jean (Edens) Snyder (1934-1976). My great-great grandparents are George Henry Snyder (1909-1985) and Hildred Leota (Baker) Snyder (1913-1984). George and Hildred had 3 children: George Ronald Snyder, Karen Gail (Snyder) Holloway and Shirley M. (Snyder) Moore. I have been trying to trace my Snyders back for a long time and haven't been able to find hardly anything. I got the names of George Henry Snyder's parents off of the 1910 census. They would be my great-great-great grandparents, and according to the census, their names are Jesse W. Snyder (About 1878-?) and Elizabeth Snyder. (I don't have a maiden name for her. The census says she was born about 1875.) Both were born in Ohio, but Elizabeth's parents were both born in Germany. I pulled Jesse Snyder's parents' names off of the 1880 census. According to that census, his parents would have been Henry Snyder (Born about 1845) and Alice M. Snyder (Again, I don't have a maiden name for her, but she was supposed to have been born in about 1847.) If anyone has any information on any of these people or any of the rest of my family, please contact me by email at kyle.rambo@hotmail.com. I will be very thankful for your help.

My great grandfather came here from Bohemia (Czech Republic). His name was Frank Snyder and lived in Davenport, Iowa in 1880 with his family, wife, Kate Holub, and children: Frank Jr., Charles, Edward and Anna. His children all moved to Chicago by the 1900s but I can't find where Frank and Kate died and are buried. Note: Son, Frank Jr. changed the spelling of their name to SNIDER. I've checked Schneiders, Sniders, Snajdrs, etc. but no results. Thanks....

Hi David,

Thanks for the response. The name Clinton SNYDER is not very common, but we seem to have found two different people with that name.

My Clinton SNYDER also came from Northampton Co., PA, probably Allen Twp, b. circa 1839. and moved to Sparta, Livingston Co, NY with his parents, Thomas & Lovina SNYDER, in the late 1840's.

I also had a Charles A. SNYDER (1851- 1928) and a Alfred E. (Earl) SNYDER (1884 - 1971) but neither matches your folks in other details.

But I'll keep looking. Thanks again for your response.

Jon Avery

I don't have the people you mention in my database, but my mother had a first cousin named Clinton Snyder. He lived 1899-1977 in Kent Co., MI and was the son of Charles L. (1859-1936) and Lillian (Shaw) Snyder. Charles was the son of Alfred E. (1830-1913) and Sarah (Kiefer) Snyder. They moved from Northampton Co., PA to Kent Co., MI in 1859, I believe, with Alfred's parents, Spencer (1795-1880) and Nancy (Davison) Snyder.
Because of the name Clinton, I thought there might be a connection. I don't know of the name Clinton otherwise in my mother's family.
David
