There are two towns named Shotton near Durham England.
My grandfather William Shotton came from Brandon England. There is also the Shotton colliery, which means coal mine, east of Durham. We are probably not related, but who knows. My grandfater was born around 1870 and came to the US about 1880. If you want exact dates and other information contact me by email and I will be happy to supply what I know.

My William Shotton would be from abt. 1769. His daughter Ann was born in 1781 in Lapley, Staffordshire, England. I don't think they left England because their daughter was born in Wolverhampton.

I am the 4th child of alan shotton, who was born 3/1/1919 in Broomhill in Northumberland (England). His father was John Carr Shotton (aka "Jack"). I am keen to make contact with any of the decendents of this family. John Carr (My father's father) was one of 11 children i believe - there must be some of you out there !!!

There are many John Shottons in my background. Lots from Newcastle/Sunderland and Stamfordham parishes.

I'd be interested in hearing about what you've learned especially about anything prior to 1600...

My maternal grandfather was born in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. The trail I have points back to Tynemouth, on the North sea, east of Newcastle. Newcastle was the sight of a history changing battle between the London landlords and the northern folks. Newcastle lost & lost their monopoly on coal shipping. The English royals gave the rights to Sunderland. The Shotton trail moves to Sunderland with business. Other places shottons show up is near Hadrians wall in southern Northumberland (Durham). There was another north-south battle there some 40 odd years later. It would beena keen survival move to high-tail out of there. It would be my guess that's how some Shottons ended up in Staffordshire which would be south west of the Hexham area. Etc,,
