Ethel Louise Shade, Penrose, CO, died Feb. 11, 2003, at her home. She was born Feb. 24, 1930, at Oakwood, Okla., to Leo and Hazel (McFarland) Layton. She married William C. Shade on Nov. 13, 1948, at Enid, Okla.
Mrs. Shade was a Penrose resident since 1959. She was a retired school bus driver for the RE-2 School District, retiring after 26 years of service. In 1993, she was recognized as school bus driver of the year for 1991-1992, in the state of Colorado.
She was a volunteer for Fremont County Search and Rescue, and she and her husband were honorary guests at Penrose Apple Days in 1990.
Mrs. Shade is survived by her husband; children, Johnny Fay Tennant, Tina Adamic, Samuel Shade; five grandchildren, Joanie and Jamie Tennant, Bradley, Megan and Amanda Shade; two brothers, Eldon Eugene Layton, Albert Layton; two sister-in-laws, Zela Layton, and Marjie Acosta; niece Kathy Troutman and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, William Steve Shade, brothers, Raymond, Emil, Bill, Jay, Donald, and sister, Donna.
Interment in Beaver Park Cemetery in Penrose
