I am looking to hear from someone related to the Sell family that came from Germany to New Holtein, WI in the 1850's.

I am looking into the history of Sells who emigrated from Hamburg to South Africa in 1858 on the ship La Rochelle. I know that they came from Brunswick (Braunschweig) in Schleswig-Holstein (Lower Saxony). It seems a strange coincidence that you are also looking for Sells who emigrated from Germany in the 1850's - perhaps all the relatives decided to up sticks for the New and Old Worlds? If you have any further information regarding your branch of Sells I would be interested to hear.

thanks for the note.
I am related to johann hinrich sell b 1826. he married bertha leizabeth ladewich. they came to mich from somewhere.
they came from hans sell and anna margareta barthels, then jochem hinrich and margaretha brammer. they were from neuwittenbek, germ.
I have tried to find the ship and way they came to mich.

Thanks very much for the info. Do you know where in Germany is Neuwittenbek? Please let me know, having a possible site is at least a start - I gather there are 90km of archives on Schleswig Holstein so needles in haystacks have nothing on this.
