Will of Frederick SHUMAN dated 1828, TN - Catherine GINGERY

Below are my transcripts of court documents dated October 28, 1828 as they were written (I did not correct spelling and grammar errors). The value of the first document is that it verifies when Frederick SHUMAN died and that Catherine, wife of Henry GINGERY, is Frederick's next-of-kin.

F. Shuman Will
p. 596 & p. 597, County Clerk Minutes, TSLA Roll #1609, Davidson County - County Clerk Minutes
Recorded October 28, 1828, Court October Sessions 1828

Be it remembered that on this day Betsey Smith produced in open court a paper writing or memorandum in the words and figures following to wit We the undersigned witnesses do hereby testify and make known and declare that during the last illness of the late Frederick Schuman who departed this life on the 24th Inst. he did in our presence declare it to be his will and desire that after his death, all his property and estate should go to Betsey Smith then living with him. Given under our hands and seals this 26 day of September 1828. F.H. L __, Lewis Shirley, Elizabeth Haynes. And offered to prove the same as a nuncupative will of Frederick Schuman deceased late of said county. And thereupon Henry Gingery in right of his wife Catherine who alledges herself to be next of kin to said Frederick dec'd came into court and contests the probate of said nuncupative will and prays that a jury of the country may enquire whether the said paper is the nuncupative will of said Frederick dec'd. Whereupon the court order that a jury be impannelled who upon their oaths shall try the issue of fact and say whether the said paper writing or the substance thereof is or is not the nuncupative will of the said Frederick dec'd executed in due form of law. To try which issue came the following Jury of good and lawful men To wit [jury names]….do say that the said paper writing or memorandum is the nuncupative will of the said Frederick dec'd. that it was executed in due form of law during his last illness at his own residence and the same was reduced to writing within ten days after the death of the said Frederick decd. and that more than fourteen days have elapsed since his decease. It is therefore considered by the court that said paper writing be admitted to record as such will of the said Frederick dec'd and that the said Henry Gingrey and wife pay the costs of this suit etc. and that execution be issued etc.
________________________________________________________________

Schmierer Adm of Schuman
p. 597, County Clerk Minutes, TSLA Roll# 1609, Davidson County - County Clerk Minutes
Recorded October 28, 1828, Court October Sessions 1828

Ordered that Frederick Schmierer has letters of administration with the will annexed granted to him on the estate of Frederick Schuman deceased. He having given bond in the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars with Simon Glenn and John Sigler his securities & qualified according to law.
George was born in or around 1909 in NYC and later lived in Newburgh New York. Even if this is the right person, it seems like this might just be a detour for you, but I thought I'd write anyway.

Benjamin Schuman was my great great grandfather. His son was Hiram Shuman. He married Nettie Hunt, my grandmother, and my mother was Lela Shuman. He had 2 children with Patty Martha Seward, and after he died in Arkansas, Patty Martha remarried and had four more children. I have some information from Benjamin on down, but not a lot going back. Information I heard from my mother was most of the family died on the ship coming over, and only Benjamin and his father made it. I do not have any information on where his father was from or where he was buried. I believe he was from Wales. I am guessing he was buried in Ohio, Missouri or Illinois. Contact me directly and I will be glad to exchange information with you. I do remember that I am related to the Kelloggs, but not clear as to how. There was a double connection with the Sewards through the Shumans and then through the Hunts. I remember my mother mentioning the Kelloggs and the Skinners, but do not have the connections.

My great-great-grandfather had emigrated to USA in the year 1883.
I know the date from his naturalization record (it’s from the 14th of January 1890). In 1890 he lived in New York City (135 East 9th Street / Manhattan / East Village).
My great-great-grandfathers name was Mathias Schumann (Schuhmann).
He was born in the year 1852 on the 01 of April in Mainz (Bodenheim) / Prussia (now Germany)[Date of Birth: 04/01/1852].
By occupation he was a painter. It was said that he was very successful in running his own business. He was owner of a scaffold construction company
in New York City. In the years between 1892 and 1896 he was visited by his son Peter Wilhelm Schumann
(my great-grandfather). But he (Peter Wilhelm) went back to Germany. My great-great-grandfather Mathias wanted that his family comes to him into the USA , but his wife and the children didn’t want that. So he lived his life in the USA and his family lived in Germany (he was not divorced from his wife).
From this time on, the family in Germany never heard anything about him.
I think that he died between 1900 and 1935. To this time I have not found a death record of him.
Please contact me, if you know something about him.

Sincerely

U. They came to the U.S. in 1854 and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where many of their descendents still live.

I know very little about Margaret and Ferdinand.
Hello.....Did you ever find your family through your research? I have found some additional info. on mine and it might link to yours: Henry Frank Schumann, b.1852, d.1934 in Colorado; his wife was Katherine Starkel/Sterkel; I found these children's names: August George Henry Schumann and Leah Schumann. I later found August G. H. Schumann, as born in 1888 in Nebraska, died in 1979 in Washington; his wife was Mary Schrieber and i've been told they had about 12 children (some of the names I have), some of these born in Montrose Co. , Colorado as per data from the 1920 Fed. Census of Montrose Co., CO under "German's from Russia" listings. If I can help in any way, contact me when you can. I'm hoping that we have a connection and can help each other, as that makes it fun to 'hunt".

D. Schuman

Looking for death and burial information on Conrad Schuman or Schumann b. about 1855 Friedewald, Hesse (German State). Lived in Albany NY area near brothers George W. and John H until about 1880. Had another brother Adam in Brooklyn NY. Conrad left Albany where he was a stock yard worker and moved to Kansas City, MO where he continued the same occupation and lived near the yards there (at least during late 1880's). He is my great grandfather. I have no reliable information on him after about 1900 so I don't know if he stayed in KC or went elsewhere. If this man rings any genealogical bells I'd appreciate a chat with you. I've listed more details on the SCHUMANN board , knowing that the brothers spelled names both ways.
David A.

Niece of Marian. I believe I am Marian's niece, Carla Roberts Haisler. My father is Carl Eugene Roberts, son of Ethel Roberts Jarosh. My grandmother, Ethel, gave up a daughter for adoption that I think is Marian.

Obit, Nicholas Schuman, d. 28 Dec 1901, CA

Daily Free Press
Redding, Shasta Co., Calif.
Mon., Dec. 30, 1901

With the reading of a beautiful passage from Robert G.
Ingersoll, the body of Nicholas Schuman, pioneer, was
laid to rest in Union cemetery at old Shasta Sunday
while one of the largest crowds at that town in years
stood by in silent sorrow at the death of a man deeply
esteemed.

Nicholas Schuman was 78 years of age and a native of
Germany. In a few months it would have been an even
half century since he built him a house on Rock Creek,
a mile and a half from Shasta, where he has lived ever
since. He was a miner and an honest man. Nick
Schuman occupied a warm place in hearts of his friends
for a man who really lived much to himself and had
neither chick nor kin of his own. His only relatives
were two brothers and a sister in Germany of whom he
had lost sight. The old man had been sick with
pneumonia and friends watched by him Saturday when the
end came.

Schuman knew he was to die. He had directed the
distribution of his effects to friends as keepsakes.
He had sent for Sheriff Behrens and showed him
Ingersoll's eulogy of Mills which he wished the
officer to read above his open grave. Schuman was not
an atheist, but believed in a universal god. The last
wishes of the old man were carried out, the great
agnostic's words were repeated over his coffined form,
and the assemblage of people mourned the end of a
maker of Shasta's early history who had justly lived
and justly died. Nick Schuman was noted for his
kindness in many signal instances.
I am trying to locate on any information on Esther M Schuman who might have lived in CA in the early 1930s. I have a snapshot of her and a studio photo of her. She was said to be my father Robert E. Kennedy's first wife. He was stationed in CA during the early 1930s. She might have lived in AZ also.
Karolyn

Per my info, he married Augusta Ulrich around 1886 in Russia. My Father visted them in Wisconson around 1947.

So, I don't think we have match, but I thank you.
