I am new at this and am interested finding ancestors of the Schuman Family of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri. My husband's grandfather was William Schuman, who was probably born in the late 1800's or early 1900's. My husband knows little of his ancestors.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY FAMILY TREE FOR NEARLY FIVE YEARS. The Schuman family or name is very wide spread as I Am Learnig.Nonetheless my area has been in New York City. You may want to get the family tree maker- it works great. I know that the Schuman family was great in New York in the middle 1800 .Those generations have passed on since leaving very little . HOWEVER they may have great grandchildren whom have moved from the city. Any one person or location as in brough of n.y would be a starting point for you. My self have come across papers dating back to 1894 and some old tin types pictures. If you have any of these you can scan them into your computer ( saving them for future generations to come. Good luck in your search for the Schuman name and line to your husband. Lastly the Schumans came from Germany mid 1800's to 1920. I am 3rd generation .

my f-i-l came from PA, one of 11 children, his name was Theodore R. Schuman,,the name has been changed from eliminating the "c" to adding a double "n"...it originally (Europe) was spelled Schumann.....don't know where in Europe his father emigrated from....

Did any of the 11 family members go to Chicago??

quite possibly...their father was Edgar Schuman. My f-i-l was born un Latrobe, PA in 1911 grew up in Raleigh, NC.

wrong Schuman's...there were 5 girls 6 boys, sorry.....it's hard to believe they are all related.....somehow.

do you know any of the names of william schuman's children?my mother's maiden name is barbara schuman.her father's name was william schuman.he was born in 1888.but right at this moment i don't know where for sure.his first wife's name cora.she died when my mother was 8 years old.he re-married when i was 2 years old..he died in 1971 in fremont ohio.he was a wonderful man.i loved my grandfather dearly.
