My great-great-grandfather had emigrated to USA in the year 1883.
I know the date from his naturalization record (it’s from the 14th of January 1890). In 1890 he lived in New York City (135 East 9th Street / Manhattan / East Village).
My great-great-grandfathers name was Mathias Schumann (Schuhmann).
He was born in the year 1852 on the 01 of April in Mainz (Bodenheim) / Prussia (now Germany)[Date of Birth: 04/01/1852].
By occupation he was a painter. It was said that he was very successful in running his own business. He was owner of a scaffold construction company
in New York City. In the years between 1892 and 1896 he was visited by his son Peter Wilhelm Schumann
(my great-grandfather). But he (Peter Wilhelm) went back to Germany. My great-great-grandfather Mathias wanted that his family comes to him into the USA , but his wife and the children didn’t want that. So he lived his life in the USA and his family lived in Germany (he was not divorced from his wife).
From this time on, the family in Germany never heard anything about him.
I think that he died between 1900 and 1935. To this time I have not found a death record of him.

I'm doing research on my husbands family.
His GG Grandparents were Peter Schumann and Rosina?.
He was born in Prussia around 1828. Rosina around 1837.
They came to New York where Peter was a tailor. The family also ran some saloons. In the 1890 NYC directory Rosina is listed as the widow of Peter, residing at 102 First Ave., NYC.

They had 6 children, Anthony, John, Louis, Nicholas, Mary, and Fredericka.

Louis is the Great Grandfather. He was born in 1868 in Brooklyn, NY. Louis died in 1900 in Brooklyn in a fall from a skyscraper he was working on. He married Christina Gertrude Burr. They had 4 children, Louis, John, Victoria, and Christina.

John Schumnn is the Grandfather. He was born in 1893 an died in 1982. He married Eloise Mae Pettmann(?). They had one child Elsie Madeline Schumann. (My husbands mother)

I haven't been able to find any more information tracing thm back to Prussia. If we are related I would love to hear from you.

Have information on Adam Schuman in Brooklyn who ran ice houses, owned real estate, owned a trvel agency, and was mortgage banker. b. 1863 Friedewald, Hesse (German State)
m. A. Katharina (?). d. 1946 in Brooklyn. bur. Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn (he's the only person buried in the plot there).

He had a brother John H. Schuman who lived in Manhattan part of his life. b. 1852 Friedewald, Hesse. m.Cornelia Wend. b. 1859 Taborton NY . John H. died 1948 in Troy, NY and is buried in Woodbine Cemetery aka Union Cemetery, Sand Lake, NY. Lived on Ford Ave. in Troy NY at the time of his death. He was a brother to my great grandfather, Conrad Schuman, as was Adam. Be happy to exchange more information on this family if it's the line you are searching.
