According to the biography commitee in Ontario, my GGG-Grandfather, John Ryder, was the son of Samuel Ryder who descended from Thomas Ryder of Yorkshire. He landed on the "Hercules" at Maymouth, Mass. on April 16, 1634. Samuel was an UEL, tory land owners in the American New England Colonies during the American Revolution. The Ryder large ownings on Clack River, where Watertown, NY now stands, were confiscated when the rebels won. The British rewarded the Ryders with large grants and an office in Kingston, Ontario. The family burial plot is the Cataraqui Cemetary. I would sure appreciate a scan of the picture you have. Thank you muchly for notifying us of this treasure.
I shall anticipate your email at my personal email address of:
philionc@telus.net Cheers, Christine.

Just read your message abt. picture of Samuel Ryder in Plymouth 1874. My husbands Ryder/Rider line is mostly in plymouth and I would love dearly to have a copy of this picture. There are many Samuel's in his line. If you would be so kind as to send copy to me, I would be glad to pay any expense.I do not have a fax machine but hope that we can work this out.
Most sincerely, Jane Weston, Plymouth,Ma.

There are many Rider/Ryders from down the Cape Cod area ans the original was a Samuel who came with childen one being Samuel Jr. and the name has passed down throughout the family. If you still have the photo of Samuel would you scan me a copy please. The "I" in the name was changed to "Y" in about 1840'S or so. Thank you Wanda aligator@pivot.net
