CAPE COD RYDERS (Luther M. Ryder)

Michael S. Ryder  (View posts) Posted: 1 Mar 2001 10:36AM GMT
Hello,

I am looking for any information on my great-great grandfather Luther M. Baxter. I know that he was born in 1849 in Barstable, MA and that he was married to a Mehitable Baxter. He is also mentioned in Fremont Ryder's Genealogy of the Rider (Ryder) families, however, I have not been able to veiw the book to date.

Any help that anyone can give me is appreciated.

According to my cousin Charlie (I'm not sure if he is a Ryder), his wife did a geneaology of the Ryders several years ago, a copy of which is in the Barnstable Museum (last I heard about 15 years ago the Museum was under severe disrepair, and may not exist any more) - anyway there were three sets of Ryders. The Provincetown Ryders, the Chatham Ryders and the Barnstable Ryders. All the Ryders are probably related, but I don't know at what point. I know my family stories go back to Provincetown, when an early ship landed there. Charlie lived in Barnstable where his family home was that I remember visiting as a child at my Great Great Aunt Nattie's (Nataline sp?) I'm not sure of Nattie's relation to my family but she may be a sister of my great Grandfather, Elijah Thomas Ryder, married to Hannah Bowen Dyer Spencer (then Ryder). Elijah was a sea captain who went off to Nicaragua. Hannah and their daughter Ethel (my grandmother would visit when Ethel was a young girl). I don't know if these pieces help, but the geneaology in Barnstable, if it has been preserved, I'm sure would be a good resource.

Also I'm interested in what ship your ancestor arrived in because my GG grandfather came on ship to Provincetown and was adopted by a sea captain. PLEASE send me an email at spazin52@yahoo.com Thank you. I'm really into Cape Cod genalogy as my Dad's family came from there.

Hannah Rebeccah Ryder was born in 1/1831 not 1851.
Her father was Charles Rider born 3/1801 in MA. They are buried in Taunton.

There is an Adams, Field, Upton, and Marble buried there also in the same grave. Any info would be helpful.
Hannah was married to a Field from RI, probably Warrne, but I am not sure.

She married Edgar Deforest Brown about 1884. He was born in RI, hjis father in MA, his mother in RI.

Any help?

Hi Beth,
You said you had more RYDER information, do you know who parents of Wilson RYDER were ? Pretty sure they connect to mine, since mine are all over Yarmouth & Barnstable County, Massachusetts.
I have 1850, 1870 & 1880 Census info on both Luther & Wilson if you don't have it and need it.

My line:
1. Ebenezer RYDER & Experience (HALL)[Mercy RYDER line]
2. John RYDER & Susannah (CROWELL)[parents of Mercy]
3. Edward RYDER & Mercy RYDER
4. Edward & Ruth S. (Covel) RYDER
5. Almeda S. (RYDER) & William H. COLLINS
6. Ada F. (COLLINS) & Charles W. HARDING
7. George Henry HARDING & Nellie Ruth (HOPKINS)
8. Hope Lillian (HARDING)HOBBS, my late mother.

I have not found parents of Edward husband of Mercy RYDER yet.

Thanks
