Thank you Gene for responding so quickly. I am researching my family of Driskell's. I am from Canada and my Gr Grandfather is from England. The Driskell's are in England in the 1700's. I know that they initially came from Ireland. I was trying to dig up DrisKELL names in Ireland around the 1600 and 1700's to see if I could piece the puzzle together.

The sons Denis and James you talk about are they now in the U.S. ?

Cathy

Cathy, the information on the family I was referencing was on emigrants to Maryland, and the time was late 1600's, early 1700's. Hope that helps, Gene

Surnames: Driscoll, Ruark
found on www.google.com, "advanced search",
exact phrase"
Mallow Archiological and history Society on a rootsweb site:

"DRISCOLL, Ann, Bridget, Johanna, Judy, Margaret, Mary"
1850 from Cork & Skibbereen County Cork Ireland to Australia

"Famous Orphans"

so in the mid 1850's there were still Driscoll families in County Cork,IRE

Also interesting:

Kingsale Swamp - Suffolk Co, VA

also Port Kinsale, Yeocomico River, Westmoreland Co, Va
northern neck near Potamoc River.
Bandon River Estuary

other:
Kinsale County Cork, IRE - is on the coast - from the headland
one could see the Lusitania sink in 1915...

www.irishclans.com/articles/kinsalebatt.html

on Christmas Eve 1601 was the Battle of Kinsale - a turning point in Irish history and part of Ireland's Nine Year Wars.

last paragraph of the article:

"Many Irish gave up their home after this loss to the English
and migrated to America...Catholic land ownership steadily
declined." ..."1641 entered the English who expelled Irish inhabitants."

..."in 1689 taken by English the following year...."

So perhaps during these times of battle and duress the Catholics opted to go to Maryland where the Calverts were welcoming
families of all faiths, including from Virginia.

It could be that some went to Suffolk Co, Va and that is where
the Kingsale Swamp got its name as well as Port Kinsale ..
would be interesting to find out - Maybe our Ruarks came in through Virginia to Maryland -????
