Does anyone have information re Descendants of Lt. Richard Frank Roos, born in 1911, died 1946 (Navy). I believe he lived with his wife and family in California, possibly Long Beach. His parents were: Paul Peter Roos and Theresia Wahl Roos of Maraih Hill.
Re: ROOS- Dwight, Nell, Charles Otto, Oscar Johan, Anna, May?

Hello - I happened to tell a luncheon friend today about my grandpa Johan Oscar Roos. Then I found your website. Missing was my father, Alford Roos, son of Johan Oscar Roos. Dad was born 1 Dec 1882, died 22 Jan 1969. He was Oscar's youngest child. Alford had one son, Alford Jr, two daughters, Phyllis (deceased), and me, Lenore Roos Kerr, age
86. I knew Nell very well; lived with her in 1929 in Tucson, AZ. Knew May well; lived with her and grandma in Taylors Falls, Minn. in 1941,in the old house Oscar purchased. Dwight was Nell's first-born; Anna was Oscar's wife, born 3 May 1850 in Sweden. Oscar was born 11 Aug 1827, died 14 June 1896. As you no doubt know, Oscar and a friend were the first permanent Swedish settlers in Minnesota in 1850. There is a monument to them in Scandia, Minn.
Albert ROOS born Germany lived Yonkers, NY bef 1880-aft 1920

I recently found an old envelope that Albert ROOS of Yonkers, NY received from Stuttgart, Germany in 1896. I want to determine if Stuttgart is the birthplace of Albert ROOS and if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. I am interested in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website (www.philgen.org). I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Hello to everyone that have chatted in this thread.

All the Roos people spoken about in this conversation sound like family. My maternal grandfather was Francois Jacob Roos (aka Jimmy Roos) (b. 28 Feb 1912) d. 7 Oct 1978. His father was Jacob de Villiers Roos (b. 28 Nov 1869 d. 1941). My grandfather had tw sisters Ellaline(b. abt 1901 d. abt 1970) and Rita(b. abt 1904 d. abt 1925)

Ellaline married a Danie Malan and they had two sons Jimmy Roos Malan and Danie Malan.

My grandfather had three children Elizabeth (Betty) Mary de Villiers Roos (b.17 Dec 1939), Heinrich Jacob (Jimmy) Roos(b. 8 Sep 1943 d. 1980-1990) and Joan Roos(b. 21 Sep 1945)

The name Tielman Roos also fits in although I am not exactly sure where.

If this fits in to your trees, Please feel free to let me know!

Regards
Karl Heinze

Hi, I am related to John Ferdinand Roos. He was married to Minnie Valentine and they had one child,Reginald Roos. John Ferdinand Roos was called "English Ferd" by most of the family and his father was John Peter Roos and the brother of my great great grandfather Ferdinand Roos. My GGGrandfather named one of his sons John Peter Roos Jr. and John Ferdinand Roos was named after his father and my GGGrandfather. I have most of my Roos line from about 1823 in Germany on. If you are interested in comparing notes let me know. Most of my line migrated to around Lewiston, Idaho and later spread out. I live in Oregon. You must be in Eleanor MacKrell's line. She was married to Peter Jacob Roos brother to John Peter Roos and my GGGrandfather Ferdinand Roos. Sincerley, Charlotte

I'm just starting my search for Roos relatives.
Peter M. (who had a brother Joseph) immigared to Ottowa, Canada in 1859 with his son John (born 2/5/1835) from Rhine, Prussia where he was a soldier. Son John married the sister of Peter Galhausen and opened a cigar store in Ottowa. They had Peter John (born 2/19/1867). After being widowed, John married Katrine Hanson (daughter of Hans Hanson and Maria Nieson) on 2/26/1883. His son Peter John immigrated to the US about 1879 and settled in Binghamton NY. He married Emmaretta Pierce. Are any of these names familiar to anyone out there?

When I finish, I'll let you guys know.

Sean
seankross@yahoo.com

Roos family

My grandfather was Oscar C. Roos. I know he was a consulting engineer and lived in NY. He married a Frieda M Iskiyan and they had a daughter Alexander Roos, born in 1930, NYC. I think Oscar was related to Delmar G. Roos, an engineer at Willys Motors. He died in 1960. Not sure of the relationship. Oscar's father? Brother? I know Delmar had a daughter, Delmar Alexandra Roos. Her middle name being the same as my mothers first name, I think there is a close relationship. In any case, I am looking for current family members in this branch of the family and would appreciate any information available or better yet - contact from a relative!!

Thanks!

HI

Johannes had a brother named Andrus (I am decended from Andrus). Andrus and Johannes were German Paletines (sp) that came to America (1710)in a program by Queen Anne to help them escape war and to settle new land. The brothers settled in the West Camp (west side of Hudson) of the colony in what is now New Jersey.

The brothers are end of line so far but I have just received more info on them and will soon be able to share it.

I am working on a Johannes Roos family in New Jersey. My info has Johannes as being born in 1687 in New Jersey. I've noticed on other postings that he is the brother of Andreas who was born in 1686 in Germany. I suspect my records are incorrect and Johannes was born in Germany also.

I would like info on any of the 8 children. I have a son Christopher married to a Mary with no other info.

My husband's family came from Illischestie, Bukovina, Austria to the US before 1900 entering from Galveston, Texas. As far back as I can get the line goes as follows.
Johann Peter Roos 1791-1858
Anna Margaretha Koenig 1798-1863 (wife)

Adam Roos 1832-1898
Katharina Armbruester 1836-1869

Anton Roos 1862-1946
Elizabeth Eisenhauer 1862-1950 born Arbora, Bukovina, Austria
These are my hubby's grandparents. Be glad to share any information I have regarding the Roos, later changed to Rose family from Austria which I believe used to be called Bavaria.
Ellen at redpep@msn.com
Hello Ingelore,
I live in Iowa, and have ancestors from various places in Germany, including the village of Fehrbach, in the Rhein-Pfalz, near Zweibruecken and Pirmasens.
According to a history of Fehrbach, written in German by Alfons Helfrich, that village was totally depopulated by the 30 Years War, (1618-48), and was later repopulated by people from French Picardie and the Austrian Tirol. (I've seen only a part of that book.)
Just yesterday, while doing a Google search for Fehrbach, I found the name "Roos" there. I read that, in 1949, a 12-year-old girl, named "Senta Roos," who lived in Fehrbach, reportedly had an apparition of the Virgin Mary, holding a rosary.
Fehrbach isn't very far from the famous Wallfahrts- Kapelle "Maria Rosenberg," which is very close to Clausen, Donsieders, and Burgalben. Its history is discussed in the book "Maria Rosenberg," by Fritz Claus. I have a 4th Edition copy of that book, published in 1911.
Jerry Baker
