Frank Roos and Katherine Purcell, NY

johnsarah_1  (View posts) Posted: 1 Sep 2000 5:40PM GMT
Looking for information on the ancestors and descendants of Frank Martin Roos and Katherine Purcell. Other than a name, I have nothing on Frank Roos or his family. Katherine Purcell (b. 1898) was from Albany NY, and was the daughter of John Purcell (b.? d.?) and Ellen Butler (b. 1863 d. 1949). She was the 9th of 12 children (Elizabeth, Mary, Anne, John, Joseph, Helen, Loretta, Agnes, Margaret, William and Mary). Thanks!

I am a decendent of Frank Roos. My grandmother was Julia Roos Mason who was the sister of Frank Roos of Albany, NY. From what I understand, Katherine Purcell Roos died last year, in 1999. I may be able to provide information on the Roos side of the family if you are interested. Contact me by e-mail and I will see what I can find out.

Correction - Katherine Purcell Roos died approx. 1997 around the age of 99. I have information regarding the Roos side of the family. Not much for the Purcell side of the family though. Forgot to add in my e-mail address: Punchin9@aol.com.

Thanks for the reply, Jeanne - this is a "lost" branch of the family tree for me. I'm definitely interested, and will email you.

My father, John Butler Meany is the nephew of Frank and Katherine Roos. He has the information you requested in your 9-01-00 message. He also can put you in touch with their sons. My father can be reached at 518 439-6764. Or e-mail me. The Fogarty name is very familiar to my father. Are you related to Margaret Fogarty, Baltimore

Roos-Fogarty connection

Thanks for your reply! I believe we have a definite connection here. Margaret Fogarty of Baltimore is a cousin. The Baltimore Fogartys are descended from Philip Fogarty of Charleston, South Carolina. Philip was the older brother of James Fogarty (also born in Charleston), who was my grandfather. I will follow up with an email.

My great great grandfather came to America in 1865 from Liverpool, England to Boston where he was suppose to stay with an uncle, but he was 15 and he went on out to California instead and then to Lewiston, Idaho in 1870. Don't know if your Frank Martin Roos could be that uncle or a descendent of his. Let me know what you think. Charlotte

Ferdinand Roos Sr.

You seem to have alot of info about your lineage of Roos'. I don't know if mine is part of yours or not. Ferdinand Roos Sr. was born in Ansbach, Germany in 1850. His father was Johan Peter Roos. They seem to move around alot so don't know if he just married someone from Germany or actually was German. They moved to France right after Ferd. was born and then to Liverpool, England where Ferd. was educated and they had three more children. John Peter Roos, Peter Jacob Roos and Marie Cathrine Roos. I know that they had family already in America when Ferd. came in 1865 as he was to go to an uncle in the east when he got to shore. At 15 he decided that the gold fields of California sounded better. If any of this sounds like it fits into your family, let me know. Charlotte
