Maria Catharina ROHRBACH, b. 1781, York Co., PA (m. Peter HAMM)

I am looking for information on the Maria Catharina ROHRBACH who was born 19 Mar 1781 in York Co., PA. The date 16 Oct 1803 is consistently associated with her death. Some researchers have it as her death date, others say that she died after that date. The researchers who have a husband for her say that his name was Peter HAMM.

I am trying to establish the original sources for the above data on Maria Catharina ROHRBACH since I believe that she may be the first wife of my ancestor, Peter HAMM. I say first wife because Peter's wife right now is listed as Catharina BACHMAN. My Peter HAMM lived in Codorus Twp. and the ROHRBACH family apparently did as well. It is my theory that my Peter HAMM married Maria Catharina ROHRBACH, they had two children, Maria Catharina died, Peter married Catharina BACHMAN, and the subsequent children were born. The first two children are as follows.

Samuel HAMM, b. 3 Jan 1802.
Julianna HAMM, b. 29 Aug 1803.

Both of these children were baptised/christened at St. Jacob's (or Stone) Lutheran and Reformed Church, Brodbecks, Codorus Twp., York Co., PA and none of the subsequent children were. Their mother was listed as Catharina in the church records but Maria Catharina ROHRBACH could have gone by her middle name.

I would greatly appreciate any information on this Maria Catharina ROHRBACH so that I can resolve this problem satisfactorily. Thanks very much.

It's quite amazing how many Rohrbaughs have remained in York County over the generations. Your grandfather, Charles Franklin is a 5th generation cousin to both my mother and my father. Your Great-grandfather, Norman Franklin married Annie Almena Heiner. The birth and death dates that you mentioned for Norman are exactly what I have in my records. Your Great-great-grandfather was Howard S. Rohrbaugh (b:Aug. 12, 1870 d:Aug. 5, 1941). Howard married Ida M. Brown. Your Great-great-great-grandfather was Adam Swartz Rohrbaugh (b:Nov. 11, 1838 d:May 11, 1875). Adam married Matilda Rohrbaugh... they were 2nd cousins. My Norman Rohrbaugh is my great grandfather. My grandfather's name is Charles Franklin Rohrbaugh. Norman was born (so far as I have been able to find) July 4, 1897 and died October 18, 1973. He died before I was born, so I don't know much about him other than his wife's name was Annie Heiner, and that he was from York County in Pennsylvania around the Thomasville area. Charles now lives in Adams County. How's that for information? Please let me know if your Norman and my Norman are the same or related.

The parents of Carrie Viola Rohrbaugh were Ira Rohrbaugh (b:June 3, 1875 d:Oct 21, 1945) and Daisy Margaret Hershey (b:July 31, 1881 d:Jan 16, 1965). The Rohrbach Genealogy book mentions that Ira Rohrbaugh is also buried at Fissel's Cemetery,

Are you talking about the 3 vol set by Lewis Bunker Rohrbaugh. If so these books are now out of Print. If you want to buy a set you may have to keep looking for a while it took me 8 years to get my hands on a complete set for sale. I got lucky and got my set directly from Lewis himself he came across a extra set but my understanding is that this was the last extra set that he had. If you don't want to buy them you can find them in a few locations where you can view them. I would also be willing to look for any information in the sets I have. Where are you located at?

My grandmother and family was listed in the 1930 census book with the same house/family number listing as Joe and Zina Reed. My father's brother, Isaac, married Joe and Zina Reeds daughter, Nellie Wilda Reed. Nellie and Isaac were living with my grandmother. It is possible that the Joe Reed family were living with my grandmother also and that would explain why the same house/family number listing

1910 Grant Co Census: I find this Joseph Reed...IS this the same Joe Reed as above?????? I think it is but Joe must have been married twice unless they have the wife's name wrong in the book OR Zina was a nickname???

To continue this story, Edwin P. and Ellen (Hengst) Rohrbaugh, who were my gg-uncle and aunt, had two more children, Ada and Harry. It is said that Uncle Ed was a railroad doctor, which eventually landed him and his family in Ellis Co., KS. Ellen's obituary says they moved to Ellis, KS in 1887, then to Cheyenne, WY in 1891, to Casper, WY in 1899; and to Hood River, OR in 1921. They later moved back to Wyoming. Ellen died in 1937 and Edwin died 1950. Both are buried in Douglas Park Cemetery, Converse Co., Wyoming. Uncle Ed was very talented in woodworking, especially parquetry. A picture of him and Ellen, in a frame he made, is attached,

Ellen was a daughter of Henry C. and Priscilla (Ness) Hengst. They and their family also moved to Ellis Co., KS, where Ellen's sister Ida met and married my ggrandfather, William V. Perry. In 1901 they moved to Hood River, OR. Priscilla died in 1907 and Henry in 1909, both in Hood River, Hood River Co., OR.

E. P. Rohrbaugh, M. D.

E. P. Rohrbaugh, M. D., a native of Codorus Township, was born in 1858, is a son of Peter L. and Elizabeth (Bortner) Rohrbaugh, and is the youngest of their ten children. The father died in 1882, but the mother still survives. Our subject received a good common school and academic education in youth, and for three years was a student of medicine under Dr. J. A. Glatfelter, of Seven Valleys, attending college in the meanwhile. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1881, and also took a course at John Hopkins University of Baltimore. For two years he practiced at Glen Rock, and then located at New Paradise, where he has an extensive patronage. In 1881 he married Miss. Ellen Hengst, who has borne him two children: Charles H. and Annie C. The Doctor is a member of the York County Medical Society, also of the Yosemite Lodge of Red Men of Glen Rock, and with his wife of the Reformed Church.

I'm hoping some one will be able to help me finding the parents of
Carrie Viola Rohrbaugh born April 23 1898 died Feb 10, 1920 ( Carroll County Md I think ) ( She died 10 days after the birth of her third daughter) News paper list death as first flu death of the year. Carrie is buried at Fissels
She married Raymond Willard Koerner, son of Edward James Koerner. Edward was the brother of my Grandfather.
I know there is Rohrbaugh's who have the Rohbraugh Family Books three V. I think. I am hoping it's listed in one of them. About a year ago I man in Fla. who is married to a Rohrbaugh found my Grandfathers sister Anna Mae Koerner, Schuman who married Edwin Rohrbaugh in his book.
I have found Koerner spelled many ways when looking for information Korner, Kerner, Kanner

Looking for information on John Rohrbaugh, born 1841 PA, and his wife Jane (Jennie) ALLEMAN ROHRBAUGH, born 1858 PA. I have found them on the 1900 Helena, Montana census but I have been unable to trace them after that.

Does anyone have information on this family?

Looking for an obit and/or place of burial for a John Rohrbaugh, date of death June 11, 1921, city of Hopewell, VA. At the time of his death, he was listed as Keeper of City Point National Cemetery but he isn't listed as being buried there.

John's wife was Jennie Alleman Rohrbaugh.

JOHN W. ROHRBAUGH

Word was received in town Saturday evening by Dr. H.M. Alleman of the death of his brother-in-law, John W. Rohrbaugh, superintendent of the National cemetery at Hopewell, Virginia. Death occurred Saturday afternoon. He was aged 80 years. He was born at Brillhart's Station, York county, and was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine Rohrbaugh. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Jennie Alleman, sister of Dr. H.H. Alleman, Baltimore street. Three brothers, George F. Rohrbaugh, Carlisle street; William Rohrbaugh, Manchester, York county, and Ephraim Rohrbaugh, York, also survive.
