Tobias Renner descendant--new Y-DNA results

My husband is a descendant of Tobias Renner (1787-1848) and his wife Cynthia Smith. The parentage of Tobias Renner has never been established. Perhaps his father was Johann Tobias Renner who arrived in Philadelphia in 1752. Other folks have listed Samuel Renner. It would be great if more Renner males participated in the Y-DNA study to see if you match any of the existing lines. It might help figure out the ancestry of Tobias Renner. My husband's Y-DNA results are posted as part of the Renner/Runner/Lauffer project at Familytreedna but this is a small project and we need more males bearing these surnames to get tested.

Each RUNNER/RENNER/LAUFFER family lineage tells its own unique and interesting story. For example, one branch includes a German family named LAUFFER (or Laufer) settling in Maryland in the 1700s, eventually changing their name to Runner, and moving in the early 1800s to what would become West Virginia. For others, this may include ancestors that at one time spelled their name RENNER, as there seem to be many Runner/Renner connections. And there are certainly many similar Runner stories. There have been Runner families in the US since the first census was taken in 1790. At that time there were ten Runner families (heads of household named Runner) in four different counties (Frederick, MD, Lancaster and Philadelphia, PA, and Bertie, NC). By 1850, the first year that the US census named all family members, there were 249 Runners, now spread out to 40 counties in nine states (four counties in Indiana, four in Kentucky, one in Louisiana, two in Missouri, four in New York, nine in Ohio, eight in Pennsylvania, two in Tennessee, seven in Virginia). By 1880 there were 493 Runners in 21 of the then 46 states and territories and by 1930 there were 986 Runners in 38 of the then 57 states and territories. Now, 75 years later, it is likely there are Runners in every state in the US. Outside of the US, there were only six Runners in the 1881 British census; and the International Genealogical Index lists just a handful of Runners in Germany, France, Switzerland and Sweden. Thus, it does seem that most Runners are in the US.

Hi Mary Ann
The only Mary Anne Renner in my Renner line is the daughter of Joseph Renner & Elizabeth Keicher. She was born in 1848 and died in 1939 in Greene County, TN. She was married twice, to my knowledge: first to Noah Bowers and second to Abe Conduff. I don't recognize the other named husbands anywhere in my family line.

Perhaps you have been researching another Renner family line (and there are many who began coming over here from European countrys in the 1840's and 1850's). Mine descends from Hans Veltin "Valentine" Renner who came into Bucks County, PA in 1732. His roots go back another 7 generations into the 1400's in The Holy Roman Empire, now Germany.

I wish I could help you.

Bill Renner

Hi,

I have researched your family a lot for my husband is related to a brother-in-law of Mary Ann. I have all the info on the family. Mary Ann was married three times, a Charles Christian, a Brendle and another man. Go to the Weakley-Hanley Tree and pull up her name. She was from Belleville, but may have been born in Lebanon, IL (maybe.) Her first husband's family had mental problems and she divorced him. She married the second man - Brendle, who I think had children by his first marriage. I can't remember anything about her third off my hat. She moved to St. Louis after marrying Brendle and I think his death certificate is on-line with the St. Louis death certificates. You can email me at Bweak@comcast.net for information if you can't locate my tree. I have a lot on the Christian family some on the Brendle and his children

Have you done any research or know where the Adam Renner farm was?--

I am not related to this line but a historian for the township west of what was called the Adam Renner farm.--

I represent the township called Monticello--

The town of Monticello was along the Oregon-California-Utah Trail of the 1840-1870 and was the wagon stop west of Chillicothe.--

Chillicothe was a council house for the Shawnee Indians and was describe as being connected to the Adam Renner farm.
It was also described as being 3 1/2 miles west of Gum Springs (downtown Shawnee, Kansas)--

Renner Road and Ogg Road are streets in now central Shawnee, Kansas.--

Actually Ogg Road is the eastern border of the Monticello Township.--

Any information will be useful.--

Thank you,--

J More--

Monticello Community Historical Society
Cindy, I believe your Renner family may have come from Europe through Maryland and then moved west to Illinois. To the best of my knowledge the Renners of Maryland in the early 1800s were not connected to my family in Pennsylvania. The Renners of Maryland may have come from either France or Switzerland. My Renners were Lutheran. The Renners in Maryland were Huegenot.

I do still have copies of my book available at $35. I would be happy to send you a copy, if you believe that would help you in your family history search, but I really don't believe you will find any help there. Anyhow, if you do still want a copy of the book, please send me a check for $35. and I will mail the book to you, but I will need your home address. My home address is: 615 Laurel Lake Drive, Apt. A-130 in Columbus, NC, 28722 and my E-mail address is william_renner@yahoo.com.

Bill Renner

Hi Bill

I've been reading other posts of Renner's, and I have a
feeling, maybe that's where my relation also came from,
I would like to read your book. Are there copy's out there
at the local libraries? The David Renner info you gave me
would coincide with the woman he married about the same
ages at the same time, so I'm pretty confident he was married to my GG Grandma's mother Elizabeth Frederick, I would have to do some checking down in ILL for a marriage certificate of some kind. Thank you soo much for getting
back to me.

Cindy Cinderella@wctc.net

Cindy, my Renner family came from Dannstadt in the Palatinate in 1732 through Philadelphia into Bucks County, PA, and spread out across the country from there. I published my family history in 2003 in my book "A RENNER Family Odyssey" which documents my family history from the 1400s thru 2003.

Bill

Hi Bill Renner

Thank you for the info on David Renner, this could be the
David Renner I'm looking for. There were alot of Renner's
that came in the 1700 and 1800's and migrated south of
Ny and west of NY, where is your family from? Thanks again
for the info.

Cindy M. Baciak Wisconsin Rapids, WI Cinderella@wctc.net

Cindy, I have found the following in the U.S. Federal Population Census of Freedom, Carroll County, Illinois: David B. Renner, born abt 1849 in IL to William Renner, b. abt 1807 in MD, and Mary A. Renner, b. abt 1812 in MD. William and Mary had 7 other children two of whom were born in MD and the remainder born in IL. From their ages the Indication is that the family arrived in Illinois in about 1840-1841.

Hopefully, this is the correct David Renner. He was the only one I found in Carroll County.

Bill Renner
Tryon Estates Genealogical Society (TEGS)

My name is Cindy Baciak, I'm from central wisconsin,
I'm looking for information on a David Renner born around
1840-6 in the Mt. Carrol area of Illinois, I think. He
married Elizabeth (Frederick) Renner who was born Aug 30 1846 most likely in PA then relocated to ILL. I'm trying to
find out where David Renner was born, who his parents were, and where they came from, and where they were born. David
Renner and Elizabeth had 15 children Rebecca, Alice, Susan,
Sally, Ida, Ella, Ruth, Kate, Rueben, Simon, Joe, David, John, George, and Elias. My GG grandmother Ella Renner was born in Stockton, CA. one of the children mentioned above.
Any help you could give me, would be appreciated. Thank you. My E-mail address is Cinderella@wctc.net

Re: family search

Dale, I regret that I just discovered your query, so I'm delinquent in responding promptly.

My John Renner Sr. was, to my knowledge, the first Renner into Eastern Tennessee and, because he owned property in Greene County, TN, in 1796 when Tennessee became a state, is counted among the First Families of Tennessee. John is the ancestor of all of the Renners in Greene County as far as I have researched.

That having been said, I do not find your John Edgar Renner in my database, but then I have not continued my research of the family in Greene County beyond about 1880. The fact that John Edgar was born in Greene County, TN, in 1900 means he is most assuredly a descendant of John Renner Sr. All we have to do now is determine to which branch of the family he is connected.

Most of the descendants of John Renner Sr. lived in either Greene or Cocke Counties in Tennessee until they began to spread out to other sections of the country after about 1850. You will need to try to identify John Edgar's parents, as a minimum, before we can make a clear connection to the other Renners in Greene County. I would recommend that you do a search for John Edgar's parents using the online resources of Ancestry.com as a starter. I will be interested in how you fare. Please keep me posted.

Bill Renner

Allen Renner is not in my immediate family line, but have you checked his obituary for details regarding his grandchildren? Since he died in 1950, his obituary should be readily available from the local newspaper in the town in which he died. If you know who his children are, then you can also check their offspring/his grandchildren in the US Federal Population Census for 1920 and 1930.

Bill Renner

I am not related to the Renner line, but may have some info you might find interesting.
I am researching possible connections between my Knoth lineage and the Groh and Kirschner families of Clay and Platte Co., Missouri.
Valentine Renner's mother-in-law, Eva Katherine Groh, was born in Minfeld, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany (which was Bavaria). She was christened at the Evangelische Church in Rheingoenheim, Bavaria.

Two Groh brothers, Christoph (Eva's father) and Johann Peter Groh immigrated to the USA via New York on 27 June 1843. On the same boat (the Baltimore) were several other German families that settled in Clay and Platte Co in the fall of 1843. Those families were.......Henry Brenner, Joseph Kirschner, John Kirschner, and your ADAM RENNER!
When I was researching the church records in Rheingoenheim, I remember seeing the family names of Renner and Klamm as well.
I hope that some of this is helpful in your research as you try to trace them back to Bavaria.
Kind regards,
Kimberly Jones
