Attakapas was the name of an Indian tribe in South Louisiana and the land carried the same name. I'm unsure as to whether there was actually a town with the same name. This was close to the town of St. Martinville where the first Acadians settled after arriving by ship in New Orleans. I have a lineage that lists Eugene Sr's father's name as Pierre but I have not been able to authenticate any of it.
