I've noticed a number of geneologies or messages that trace back to Marin Prevost-Lafleur in France (early 1600s). Has anyone succeeded in getting more info on Marin or ancestry beyond him?

Marin lived in Tourouvre France and his son Francois Provost immigrated to Canada along with 80 other families from Tourouvre in 1650.

I came across a facinating web-site for the Mercier Family which included a page of pics from Tourouvre including pics of the church where Marin and Catherine were married. It includes a pic of a plaque showing the list of names of those who left for Canada, including the name of Francois Provost. URL is

I am the grand-daughter of 921. Rose Anna Philomene Prevost (Provost). She was born on February 23, 1901 in New Bedford, MA, USA, DCD February 29, 1988 in Mattawa, Ontario, Canada. She married Alphonse Lalonde (born: November 4, 1896 in St. Polycarpe, PQ - dcd June 22, 1975 in Mattawa, Ont.). They had 19 children (65 +) grandchildren - we are now in our fifth generation. My interest in geneology has just begun - however, the information I found on the prevost family has been of tremendous assistance. I'd be very interested in looking at your research on the Prevost family. It sounds like you have important pieces to add to my puzzle. I have my Prevost info to date set up on Excel 4. If you don't have a program that would open it, I could prepare it in another form.

I am writing to you about my ancestors. I am trying to know more about the Prevost side of my family.So far I know that my grand-father was William Lajeunesse. He was married to Marie Jane Theona Prevost. I also know that her parents were Leandre Prevost. He died in 1968 and his wife was Claude Chenier. She died in 1966. Do you know anymore or maybe you know someone who knows more? Where did they come from and stuff? I need to know Leandre's parents and the Frevost family.Feel free to email me anytime.

Louise, do a search for Prevost Provost Geneology. Claude Prevost has the geneology of five or six Prevost (Provost) families dating back to the 1600. You may be able to find the information you require there.

The information in all in Zip format which you can download to your computer.

I searched under the Francois Prevost file and could not find the info you require.

Where did the name Prevost-Lafleur come from? I would love to know more about the Prevost/Provost genealogy if you have more information. I am a descendant of Marin Provost 1612, Francois Prevost 1637, Fancois Michel Prevost 1669, Charles Francois Prevost 1705, Charles Prevost 1742, Charles Prevost abt. 1766, Joseph Damase Prevost 1818, Damase Alphonse Prevost 1858, Donat Prevost 1895 and my father (Hubert Prevost).
