Ruth Esparza September 11, 1927 to October 24, 2009. Born in Madrid, New Mexico. She went peacefully on October 24 2009 with her family by her side. Loving daughter to the late Lucas and Pomposa Palacios. Beloved wife to John Esparza for 49 years. A wonderful mother of 4. She had 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Services on Thursday October 29 Vigil at 7pm and Funeral on Oct. 30 at 10 am at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA 95125.

My dad has mentioned a Jose Palacios to me before and he and my great grandmother Paula Palacios are the only one's I have heard of. I am working on finding more family. Paula was married to my great grandfather, Manuel Gonzalez and they had my grandfather, Pablo Palacios Gonzalez. He was born in Roma, Tx (Los Arrieros). I will keep searching. The reason I wrote to you is because the years are similar to what I have for Jose Palacios.

Palacios and Baquera from San Andres, Chihuahua

My great-grandmother was Maria Teodula PALACIOS BAQUERA, daughter of Juan PALACIOS LOYA and Febronia BAQUERA PALACIOS.

Juan PALACIOS LOYA was a son of Benigno PALACIOS and Luisa LOYA.

Febronia BAQUERA PALACIOS was a daughter of Felix BAQUERA and Juliana PALACIOS.

That's as far back as I've made it. I am currently going through the (unindexed) San Andres church records available at pilot.familysearch.org

It appears that Felix BAQUERA and Juliana PALACIOS were living in Santa Isabel before moving to San Andres, but I have not found conclusive proof of this.

Would be happy to receive any information on these surnames. I understand there's a book called "Palacios - A Family History". Would anyone be willing to share a copy of it?

Esequio died 9/17/1957 in Houston, UT-M.D.Anderson. He was widowed at the time. He was born 9/10/1890 and buried in Aransas Pass, Texas.

Julia Moya Palacios was born 7/10/1896 in Beeville to Ygnacio Moya of Alice, Texas and Eugenia Canada (Ganeda) of Mexico. She died Nov 23 1956 in Woodsboro, Refugio Co., Tx. Julia is buried in St. Bernard Cemetery, Woodsboro, Tx. The informant was Eciquio B. Palacios.

Another source is the Caller.com website as well as the Corpus Christi Public Library website. Aransas Pass and Woodsboro obits usually appear in the Corpus Christi Caller (newspaper of Corpus Christi).

There is a Palacios family that originated in the Monterrey, N.L. area that come to the lower Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. Many of us tie in to that family.

I searched for Toribio Palacios in the family search site:
http://www.pilot.familysearch.org and found a Toribio Palacios from Leon, Guanajuato. His father is listed as Felipe Palacios. He died in Edinburg, Tx. The informant was Felipe Palacios. He died July 7, 1964. Date of Birth: April 13, 1886.

I would suggest you search the McAllen newspaper for a death notice. Also check Univ of Texas, Pan American for their website. Perhaps they will do the search for you for a minimal fee. McAllen, Texas is the largest city near Edinburg.

Also, contact any of the aunts or uncles that may be living. They are a great source. Good luck. Let us know how you are doing,

If the children were born in the lower Rio Grande Valley, they may be registered in Roma, Rio Grande City, or Brownsville, Tx. The Catholic Archives in Austin, Tx can do a search for you for a small fee.

Hello there. My dad had an uncle named Jesus Palacios.
He lived in the Riverside CA area. He passed away several years ago. The other names you mentioned don't sound familiar. Good luck wiith your search.

Marines Missing From Vietnam War Are Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of four U.S. servicemen, missing from the Vietnam War, have been identified and will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

They . . . and Lance Cpl. Luis F. Palacios, of Los Angeles, Calif. Remains that could not be individually identified are included in a group. . . .

On June 6, 1968, these men were aboard a CH-46A Sea Knight helicopter that was attempting an emergency extraction of elements of the 1st Battalion, 4th Regiment, 3rd Marine Division then engaged against hostile forces in the mountains southwest of Khe Sanh, Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. The helicopter was struck by enemy ground fire and crashed, killing 12 of the 23 crewmen and passengers on board. All but four of the men who died were subsequently recovered and identified.

Between 1993 and 2005, joint U.S./Socialist Republic of Vietnam (S.R.V.) teams, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), investigated the incident in Quang Tri Province, interviewed witnesses and surveyed the crash site three times. The team found a U.S. military boot fragment and wreckage consistent with that of a CH-46 helicopter.

In 2006, a team began excavating the site and recovered human remains and non-biological material evidence including La Plant’s identification tag. While at the site, a Vietnamese citizen turned over to the team human remains the he claimed to have found amid the wreckage. In 2007, another team completed the excavation and recovered additional human remains, life support material and aircraft wreckage.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons in the identification of the remains.

I'm the granddaughter of Dolores Baquera, her mother was Francisca Palacios. Francisca's brother was Ricardo Palacios. I'm understanding that Nicolas Palacios and Maria Gregoria Borunda are their parents and Nicolas' parents are Jose Palacios and Maria Luisa Loya. I'm trying to find if this is correct. I know it's been a long time since you posted this, but I'm curious about my family. My grandmother's name was Dolores Baquera. The understanding I have is that Francisca Palacios is her mother who was from San Andres, Chihuahua. Francisca was married to Fernando Baquera and they had three children Refugio, Isabel, and Nicolas. Fernando died and then Francisca had two more children from Juan Murga, Dolores and Enrigue. I know my grandmother's last name was Baquera but I'm not sure about Enrique. My grandmother came to El Paso around 1917 with her mother but my understanding is that Enrique stayed with his father in Mexico. I'm not really sure on that. I believe Francisca died young because my grandmother ends up in an orphanage. Her father, Juan Murga at some point meets up with my grandmother and asked her to go back to Mexico with him, but she states no and stays in El Paso. I did have a chance to meet Isabel,and Nicolas. I never met Refugio or Enrique. When I saw Isabel she was with Ofelia who is one of her cousins. I'm trying to verify if Raymundo Borunda and Refugio Palacios are Francisca' parents. I've read through other posts but I just want to make sure.

I do not know too more from what I wrote in teh initial messege. I did find out that Toribio father was named Felipe Palacios. Toribio must have named his youngest son Felipe, in honor of his father. Toribio's other son Guillermo Palacios( wife Alicia) moved to California. Guillermo died in 1980 in Riverside CA. Just in case there is a California connection.

My greatgrandmother was Francisca Palacios that married a Fernando Baquera and he died at an Hacienda de San Juan near a San Andres. My grandmother lived in El Paso. It sounds to familiar. I wish I knew more information.

Actually, my grandmother was born in 1911 and was the youngest of the four. So the story I've been told does fit in with the fact that my grandmother was not Fernando Baquera's daughter and probably Nicolas was not either since he was born in 1908. Ofelia and Isabel were Fernando's daughters though and they were taken in by their family when Francisca (my great grandmother) died, Nicolas went to his father's family (I believe) and my grandmother was put in an orphanage.

My grandmother was Dolores (Lola) Baquera. One of my aunt's and my father were named after my grandmother's siblings. I know Ofelia and Isabel went to my wedding shower at my Dad's house but my grandmother had already passed. I found a different Board where they state that there was a Francisca Palacios from San Andres, Chihuahua whose parents were Raymond Borunda(father), and Refugio Palacios(mother). They had 13 children but the person could only name four. They stated that for some reason, some of the children took on Borunda and some took on Palacios (being the maternal name). But there is also a San Andres, Yucatan, Mexico that is near a Hacienda San Juan. I could not find an Hacienda San Juan near the one in Chihuahua. But there was alot of Palacios and Baqueras in the intermix of the one in Chihuahua. I understand that Francisca died when my grandmother was young. Possibly my grandmother and Nicolas (her brother) were not from Fernando Baquera. I don't know if any of this helps you. I know you helped me.

My mother was born Raquel Palacios and we were both born in EL Paso TX. Her father is the late Melecio(?spelling) Palacios and her mothers name was Maria or Ma Antonia Palacios. My mother came from a very large family and Melecio had children in a second marriage as well. I don't know much more than that about my mothers parents.
