Nicola Pagano in Crystal City was my great-uncle! He was my grandfather's brother. That would make us cousins! My father was Biagio Pagano's son Ugo Pagano. He worked at FW Harder Co. in Crystal City. He had a brother named Tony who owned Ponza Pizzaria in Crystal City. That would make you either Nicola Pagano's son Silverio's daughters kid or Nicola Pagano's other son Bill's kids kid. It's great to run into a Pagano Family cousin!! E-mail me back. I would love to have you e-mail me. Ciao, Silverio

Do you have an uncle (or maybe great uncle) named Nicola Pagano? He was my great grandfather. His father was also named Biagio. He (nicola) had a brother named Biagio also--who came to america and lived in Crystal City, MO....your father? I can't imagine that there is another set of Biagio Pagano fathers and sons on such a small island. Ponza is beautiful. We're lucky to have roots there!

Hi Patricia,

How nice to finally get a reply. We must be distantly related, but exactly how is left to be seen. I made a spreadsheet with all of the Paganos I found on the Ellis Island site that emigrated to the US from Roccapiemonte. (When the main street bears your surname, you know you have found your way home.)

I would like to see if we can find a connection. You can contact me at catlefuet@mail.com One of my Paganos (Maria Antonia) lived with her husband and children at
100, 88, and 80 Corso Mario Pagano before going off to America.

When you family came to the US, where did they settle? My line seems to have settled predominately in NYC and in Susquehanna, PA. Many worked for the railroad.

I look forward to exchanging information with you.

Sincerely,
Cathy Teufel O'Neill

It seems you posted this 2 years ago, and I don't know if any other Pagano's wrote to you but, my Dad's family came from Roccapimonte. When I was 21 in 1976 I went to Roccapimonte, Italy with my parents and visited my Dad's aunt. We called her (phonetically) Mari-ooch. I guess that was for Maria (Pagano). She lived on Corso Mario Pagano. She is deceased now.
My grandfather and great grand fathers names were Antonio Pagano and my dad, now 92 is named Thomas Gatano Pagano.
I don't know if you went to ellisisland.org to look up your family but there are many people with the "Pagano" last name and loads of Antonio Pagano's from Roccapiemonte when I went on that site.
good luck in your search.

Sincerely,

Patricia Pagano Iwaniw

Helo my name is Francesca Teresa maria Richer I was born a Pagano in Edinburgh Scotland in 1947. My grandfather was Salvatore Romero Pagano he died in 1952 when I was 5. He may have come to Britain with other brothers because he was also a master confectioner by trade.
I believed he ran away from home in Sicily at 11 years old but had a sister called Maria. He was found in the 1891 census living in Liverpool England and working as a professor of Music, with 5 living children and his new wife Jesse Smith. His 1st wife had died in childbirth. Only his daughters Cecelia and Santuzzi imigrated after the war.
I have so far been unable to trace back any family members to Sicily only by word of mouth and a hint that the Family name had been changed TO Pagano (possibly Maccalusso?). However the stories I have been reading do look as if the intention was to imigrate to USA hence them living in Liverpool waiting for the birth of a child before taking passage like many othrs have done.
As I said earlier only the two daughters emigrated after the war.Unless a brother or cousin did?
It may be of interest to you to know that in the bascillica in Poresc in Croatia there is a side chapel with the inscription of S Pagano above the arch. This was built on the orders of Bishop Pagano to be a mausoleum on his death.
There was a time in history when the Romans and Venetians ruled that part of Yugoslavia and many of their buildings are of the same Italian style. The Basillica is 2nd oldest only to St Peteres in Rome. (The history lesson s Free)!!!!
Good luck with your searches.
I'm searching for Philip and Jennie (nee UNKNOWN) Pagano who both immigrated to New York from Sicily. Philip was born Fillipo Pagano 9 January 1880 in Ventimiglia, Sicily. He immigrated to the states in 1892. He also had a brother John, who married Mary. There mother's name was either Mary or Rose. All of these individuals immigrated from Sicily to New York between 1892 and 1900. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I told him what an impact he had on my life and how thankful I was for his kindness to me and my mom. I think he wondered why I would feel so strongly about wanting to connect but I think he understood by the end of the conversation. He gave me his email address and I plan to send him some photos and news clippings from my latest musical theatre show. Thank you Camille. I hope to stay in touch with you.
Hi Camille:

I got home Tuesday night and found he'd called me and called my cell phone. He didn't leave a message though. So, I called him back but I got a message that said his cell number was not taking calls at that time. I keep hoping he'll call again. Maybe I should write a letter to him and send it to him through you? He probably thinks I'm a nut case...but, I'm really very harmless. Thank you again for doing what you've been able to do.
I have another question. In the first message you posted in 2003 that says "my pagano names are" and says
Salvatore Pagano m. Sebastiana Spinnavaria
Antonino Pagano m. Filippa Cannamela
Sebastiano Pagano m. Maria Fazzino
Angela Pagano m. Sebastiano Amenta.

Who are the top three sets of people. I knew that Maria Fazzino was Angela's mother. I'd assume that Sebastiano Pagano was Angela's father. Also I'm assuming Antonino and Filippa are sebastiano's parents and Salvatore and Sebastiana are Antonino's parents. So does that "m." mean married?

First, I could only cry when I read your message. Camille, you can never know how very much this means to me. This is the best Christmas gift I've ever had. I can only hope Paul will give his permission for me to contact him. He may not have been my father in the end, but I always loved him as such. He was such a kind man to my siblings and I. Carol was like the big sister I never had. She was so beautiful. I have photos of her in her graduation dress or confirmation dress - it was white with a red ribbon around the waste. Paul was my younger brother's Godfather and both he and Carol were there when Chris was baptized...my own father not surprisingly absent. My mother kept all his letters until she passed away on Thanksgiving Day 9 years ago this year. I've been searching for Paul all this time. My mom told me many times she really never ever loved another. She remarried twice after my dad and both men treated her terrible. My first step-dad was an alcoholic and wife abuser. He beat my mom. The second step dad only wanted my mom to himself and ensured he put a wedge between her and her kids. I got the worst of that and it created a big riff between my mom and I for many years. He later had several affairs and did so while she was dying. Paul, he treated my mom like a queen. He was gentle with us kids. Once, my brothers had played with his flashlight causing the battery to run down. My mom told Paul he could administer whatever punishment he felt was fair. They lined us all up (three of us). Each of my brothers got a whack on the behind. When it was my turn, I didn't understand why I was being punished. Instead, he gave me a "love tap" and I was crying so hard, he just held me and hugged me. I knew I loved him right then. Later that day, he took my mom and me to a park for the evening. It was moments like this that made him a hero in my mind.

When he was forced to give my mom up (his folks didn't think a good Catholic boy should be with a divorced woman wtih four children - a sign of the times), he put my mom and us kids on a train and sent us home to Washington state. My mom cried nearly every night after that. I think her loneliness pushed her to men that didn't care a darn about her. She gave me the engagement ring he gave her for a graduation gift. At the time, I had a boyfriend who I allowed to talk me into selling it. There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I don't wish things were different. The ring was about a 1/4 carat diamond with a brushed finished band. I could never bring myself to tell my mother about what I'd done to that ring. I knew it would kill her.

As you can surmise, Paul played a big part in the woman I have become. He taught me kindness, compassion and not to be judgemental. He fully accepted us as children and we him as a father figure. I loved Carol for being the big sister I never had and always wanted. Their parents were also very kind to us. My first July Fourth Celebration was at their house where we sat in the front yard and watched a big parade. So many good good memories. He deserves to know that one person can touch many lives.

Thank you so much Camille. You've done a great thing and have given the best Christmas gift ever. Laurie

Dear Laurie,
I called Carol. She didn't connect at first, but then she said that she babysat for you and your siblings when she was 12 years old. She is seeing Paul and family tomorrow. I gave her your telephone numbers. She said she will relate the message to Paul.
She said you lived in River Grove. Your mother was a WAC. Your father left you when you were young. We talked quite a while. PLEASE (as I told her) let me know what happens. I am so excited. My number is 262 654 2914 and my name is Camille. Please keep in contact.

PLease - I've been searching for Paul for many years. He was once very important in my life - he was almost my step-father and I loved him very much. There are some things I wish to share with him that he should know. I realize he may now be married with a family all his own. I do not wish to disrupt that. But, he was engaged to my mother and she died recently. She always loved him and he touched all our lives as children. Can you tell me how I might get in touch with him...if you know? This has been a 10 year search. My email address is Laurie.Miller@aegisliving.com. PLeae help me.

Hi,

I was born in Washington State in 1965. My birthmother got pregnant while in a relationship with a Tony Pagano, who was in the Army at the NIKE Missle Base on Vashon Island, WA. I believe he was a dog handler. He left and my birthmother placed me for adoption. I have found her family, she died at the age of 29. They have given me information I needed for medical history reasons. I desperately need medical history on my biological father too. I have 3 sons who deserve to know their medical history also.

Tony is in the picture folding his arm second from left in the front row. Boy we look alike...

I have always been proud to be 1/2 Italian and would like to know more about my family history too!

Cheryl

Pagano Family from Roccapiemonte, Salerno (near Naples)

Hello,

My great grandmother was Carmela Pagano who was married to Giovanni Barba. She came to the NY in 1897 from Roccapiemonte with daughters Anna Barba and Annuziata (Nancy). She was to meet her husband Giovanni in Philadelphia, PA. I believe he and others in his Barba family were masons. One of his brothers lived in Brooklyn. Carmela, Giovanni, and children eventually moved elsewhere in PA, and due to an accident, the children were placed in an orphanage in Erie, PA after their father died and their mother was severely injured.

Carmela had a sister named Maria Antonia Pagano who married Luciano Napoli. Antonia came to the US in 1900 with children Filomena, Antonia, Tomasso, and Nubilia. She was to meet her husband who lived on on Mulberry Street. The family also moved to Susquehanna, PA for a while.

I am interested in corresponding with anyone who might have Pagano or Barba roots in Roccapiemonte, Salerno in the Campania region of Italy. I know that there were also many Pagano and Barba families in the areas surrounding Rocca.

Cathy Teufel O'Neill

I am trying to locate a Pat Willis who is also researching the name McHugh. If this is the same Pat, I need you to send me a message with your e-mail and mailing address so I can contact you. I have repeatedly tried to reply to your message with no avail. It's listed as defaultuser@domain.com and that is a useless e-mail.
