Check on Rootsweb.com, I found a Catherine Ott,b10/20/1840, Viele, Lee County, Iowa. Father is Michael and mother listed as Sally Klaber but I believe it should be Salome Kleiber as she is my ggrandmother's sister. You may want to check with the Donnallson Public Libary, Donnallson, iowa also. They have quite a bit of info on older members of area.
Adelia Ott appears on the 1930 census for Fayette County, Iowa, in the township of Auburn, E D 2, sheet 5B, household 89/89.

M. Joseph OTT (head), 32, born in Germany, farmer
Theresa H. OTT (wife), 31, born in Iowa
Arnold OTT (son), 9, born in Iowa
Margaret OTT (dau), 8, born in Iowa
Larata OTT (dau), 6, born in Iowa
Arthur OTT (son), 5, born in Iowa
Imelda OTT (dau), 4, born in Iowa
Adelia OTT (dau), 2, born in Iowa
Alnin [?] OTT (son), 9 months, born in Iowa

Joseph and Theresa also appear, without children, on the 1920 census for the same county (E D 83, sheet 2B, household 31/31), next door to Baptist OTT who might be Joseph's brother. This time, Joseph says he was born in Iowa but his parents were from Bavaria.

Going back to the 1910 census (Fayette County, Iowa, E D 75, sheets 8B and 9A, household 153/155), Joseph and Baptist are teenagers in the household of Michel and Margaret OTT. This census shows that Michel and Margaret immigrated from Germany in 1884 -- apparently at the time of their marriage, since they reported that they had been married for 26 years. Their family:

Michel OTT (head), 51, born in Germany
Margaret OTT (wife), 47, born in Germany
Mary OTT (dau), 18, born in Iowa
Baptist OTT (son), 15, born in Iowa
Joseph OTT (son), 12, born in Iowa
Maggy OTT (dau), 11, born in Iowa
Sapho OTT (dau), 9, born in Iowa
Karl OTT (son), 6, born in Iowa
John OTT (son), 5, born in Iowa

Finally, the 1900 census (Fayette County, Iowa, E D 65, sheet 9B, household 189/191) shows two earlier children of the same family (also Michel is called Michael, and Baptist is called John B). This time they say they immigrated in 1883.

Michael OTT (head), 45, born Feb 1855 in Germany
Margaret OTT (wife), 37, born Feb 1863 in Germany
Anna OTT (dau), 13, born July 1886 in Iowa
George OTT (son), 11, born Nov 1888 in Iowa
Mary OTT (dau), 9, born Feb 1891 in Iowa
John B OTT (son), 6, born June 1893 in Iowa
Joseph OTT (son), 4, born Sept 1895 in Iowa
Margaret OTT (dau), 1, born Sept 1898 in Iowa

These are your husband's cousin's great-great-grandparents, which is as far back as I can trace her line.

Regards -- Mark James tmarkjames@yahoo.com
Hi
I am an Ott, so am always looking for information that might lead me to a gate in the brick wall that I have. Your Ott's are a different line than mine, so what I do have will not help you. However, you might want to consider joining this Germany Passenger List, (germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com)as the people who belong to that list are the most helpful people I have ever seen. You will need better dates, ie: birthdate, where they lived, deathdate, and an approx year if you have it of when they immigrated. There are several German speaking people who belong to the list and several that just have a detectives eye for finding information. Hope you try it. Good luck.
Linda
I am looking for any information on the parents of Euphrosine (Rosa) Ott (1858-1943) who married August Gabler (1848-1896) Both were born in Germany, came to New York, and lived in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was a Baker, and they ran a store on Morris Ave, in NJ.

I believe her parents name were Andrias Ott, and Maria Limbacher.

His parents name were Christian Gabler and Sophie. That is all the information that I have. Sure would appreciate it if anyone could fill in some of the blanks.

Unfortunately, I do not have a subscription to ancestry. Thus I only have access to creating a family tree and the boards. Would the LDS family history centers have access to the census records? Or would you be willing to list where and who you found on the census?

Adelia was listed as single at the time of Diane's adoption.

I assume you have done a search for Adelia Ott on Ancestry.com. She appears on the 1930 census there, along with the rest of the family members. Perhaps you could locate one of them, to find out where she went to. Do you have a married name for Adelia, at all? That would help with searching for a death date. Do you know which church she attended where she lived in Iowa? Perhaps they would have some records.
Linda

No, nothing else. The granddaughter's mother is Adelia's daughter that was given up for adoption. All we have to go on are what is in the adoption papers.

Mother's name: Adelia M. Ott
Mother's year of birth: 1927
Mother's occupation: waitress
Mother's ethnicity: German
Mother's faith: Catholic

Father: believed to be about 29yrs of age at birth of child, believed to be of German descent with blue eyes, blondish hair. Occupation: worked for a wholesale company.

Adelia's daughter was initially named Diane Marie Ott. Born in Iowa in the early 50's. Since she is still living, I won't post her legal names. At some point she located someone (not certain who) and was informed that Adelia was deceased. I cannot find her in the death index, so I am uncertain if this is factual or not.

"Diane's" daughter is wanting to find her family history and simply learn about where they descended from. The granddaughter is cousin to my husband.

I have an Adelia or Delia Hodges Ott, in my line. However she was born in the 1800's. I wonder if your Adelia could be a namesake? Where was she born and to whom was she married? Do you have any other information about the rest of the family, such as brothers and sisters, parents names, etc? I may have something, but I just need more information, than what you have given us with your recent post. Are any of the following names familiar.....Hodge or Hodges, Truly, Burch, Cutrer, Varnado ?
Sincerely,
Linda

Sounds like a good story also. We have so many in the last 7 years that come to the Research Room of the Phelps County Genealogical Society that claim to have Indian grand or great grandparents. We don't have enough books or material to prove anything. We tell them to contact OK. Thank you for answering my question. If you ever find out that Sarah is really a Indian let me know.
The story that you have is one that has been passed around, however I have been unable to prove or deny any part of it. Mr. Guy Wells was one of the main proponents of the Indian relationship. In all the Census Reports, both John and Sarah indicate they were born in Kentucky and in the 1880 Census AR, Marion county, Sarah indicates both her parents were also born in KY. Jonathan Owen (note the "S" is missing)was living near the Ott family in Clay Co. Indiana for the 1840 Census, both John and Sarah can reasonably be believed to be part of the children shown. When John said he traded horses and furs for Indian wife Sarah, I believe he was telling a good story.

I don't know if this is the same Nicholas Ott. There is an obituary in the Digital Collection of the PA State Library online. This Nicholas Ott was a member of Company G, 73rd Infantry. He died in Allegheny. You can access the obit via their Genealogy Collection, Necrology Scrapbook, Volume 58, p. 086. There is a search engine also. A little tricky but eventually you will find it. Good luck. Holly

I know this reply is 7 years after the post but I am doing some research on the Ott family as well. I am the granddaughter of Lowman Luther Ott, son of David C. Ott and Emmaline Wirick Ott. My mother who is 87 is Emma Delilah Ott Jones. I am just trying to fill in the blanks of our history. My mother remembers many of the people on the lists I have found including her grandfather David Ott. I'm not sure what you are looking for but I will share any info I have.
I've sent you my email thru Ancesty's "contact" form. I'm also going to Guttannen for research/photos in May with my Mom & brother so if come across any more pics will send those as well after we return. In fact, we'll probably be staying at the Hotel Baren still owned by the Rufibach family. (do a Google search for <"hotel baren" guttannen> and the first link should be their website - choose "translate this page" or check it out here http://www.baeren-guttannen.ch. Look at the Uber Uns & @ link on the left and you will see Rufibach info as well as at the top of that page click on Generations to see lots more. We seem to have many surnames in common as I recognize all those you have listed!

My Grandmother was Kathryn Ott b. 1897 in Taylor, PA. Most of her older siblings were born in Guttannen. Her parents were Kasper & Margaretha von Weissenfluh Ott. Any OTT's, VON BERGEN's, or VON WEISSENFLUH's in your ancestry too?

Sandy, i tried to respond back to you a few years back to no avail. I would be very interested in obtaining a copy of that photo as i am relation to many of those last names. My paternal grandmother was a Leuthold and her grandmother was a Rufibach. There are also Strein's, Schild's, and Imdorfs. A cousin of my father's who is about 80 remembers going to a Swiss Ball in Taylor when they were younger. Very interested in obtaining that can help me with that side of my family. Thank you for your time. Nina Beynon Serfass
Magdalena Ott, Wisconsin

Seeking any information on Magdalena Ott. What little I know:
- born 15 Sep 1827 (note on a family tree)
- by 1860, married to Anton Hoffmann and living in Milwaukee, Ward 5. Has two children, Louis (born 1857) and William (born 1859). Census taker noted that they were married within the year, and that they were both from Germany. Census taker notes her name as Helena not Magdalena.
- 1870 cenus, living with husband and 3 children in Greenfield, Milwaukee County, WI. Census taker notes that Anton is from Bavaria and Magdalena is from Prussia.
- 1880 census, living with husband and youngest son Frank in Greenfield. Census taker notes that Magdalena is from Prussia.
- Died 23 May 1897, given a Lutheran Burial in Emanuel Cemetery, Hales Corners, WI

Other info: her husband Anton Hoffmann was born in Pfalz, Bavaria and was baptised Catholic. I don't know what year he immigrated or what port. I suspect that they met in the US since they were essentially from different countries. I haven't had any luck finding their marriage record.

Most of the Ott families appear to be Catholic, but am pretty certain Magdalena wasn't since they were buried in the Lutheran church and her descendents were Protestants.

Any help on this brick wall will be appreciated!

I had an hour this morning so I decided I would go through the 1940 census and I could find no Erna. Is it possible to find out who Lee Henrys' father was, because you'll need to find either your fathers family or your mothers family in history through records and deocumentation, census etc. and once you have a clear link to one of the families you can go to the court house or contact them for the marriage record between the two of them or the one in question and this gives you a starting point or place to work from. Secondly you can send for a death certificate for Erna which would give you her parents names and also another place to work from. I hope this helps.
John

To: IreneFeiferPfeifle
Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner about Erna Ott and her husband Henry its only that I wanted the opportunity to go through the census for 1920 for Maryland Family by family and also discuss the issue with another Ott genealogist. They did not know anything about your Erna Ott and as I was going through the census family by family I found many families where there was a female like (Mary) with a middle initial (E) which makes it very difficult. I found many Emmas Ednas and Ellas but no Ernas . Do you have any more information other than this so that I might try again in another area.
John
