Looking for information on Adelia Ott b. 1927 and have been informed that she is deceased. Her granddaughter is trying to find information on the family line and it's history.

I have an Adelia or Delia Hodges Ott, in my line. However she was born in the 1800's. I wonder if your Adelia could be a namesake? Where was she born and to whom was she married? Do you have any other information about the rest of the family, such as brothers and sisters, parents names, etc? I may have something, but I just need more information, than what you have given us with your recent post. Are any of the following names familiar.....Hodge or Hodges, Truly, Burch, Cutrer, Varnado ?
Sincerely,
Linda

No, nothing else. The granddaughter's mother is Adelia's daughter that was given up for adoption. All we have to go on are what is in the adoption papers.

Mother's name: Adelia M. Ott
Mother's year of birth: 1927
Mother's occupation: waitress
Mother's ethnicity: German
Mother's faith: Catholic

Father: believed to be about 29yrs of age at birth of child, believed to be of German descent with blue eyes, blondish hair. Occupation: worked for a wholesale company.

Adelia's daughter was initially named Diane Marie Ott. Born in Iowa in the early 50's. Since she is still living, I won't post her legal names. At some point she located someone (not certain who) and was informed that Adelia was deceased. I cannot find her in the death index, so I am uncertain if this is factual or not.

"Diane's" daughter is wanting to find her family history and simply learn about where they descended from. The granddaughter is cousin to my husband.

I assume you have done a search for Adelia Ott on Ancestry.com. She appears on the 1930 census there, along with the rest of the family members. Perhaps you could locate one of them, to find out where she went to. Do you have a married name for Adelia, at all? That would help with searching for a death date. Do you know which church she attended where she lived in Iowa? Perhaps they would have some records.

Unfortunately, I do not have a subscription to ancestry. Thus I only have access to creating a family tree and the boards. Would the LDS family history centers have access to the census records? Or would you be willing to list where and who you found on the census?

Adelia was listed as single at the time of Diane's adoption.

Adelia Ott appears on the 1930 census for Fayette County, Iowa, in the township of Auburn, E D 2, sheet 5B, household 89/89.

M. Joseph Ott (head), 32, born in Germany, farmer
Theresa H. OTT (wife), 31, born in Iowa
Arnold Ott (son), 9, born in Iowa
Margaret Ott (dau), 8, born in Iowa
Larata Ott (dau), 6, born in Iowa
Arthur Ott (son), 5, born in Iowa
Imelda Ott (dau), 4, born in Iowa
Adelia Ott (dau), 2, born in Iowa
Alnin [?] OTT (son), 9 months, born in Iowa

Joseph and Theresa also appear, without children, on the 1920 census for the same county (E D 83, sheet 2B, household 31/31), next door to Baptist Ott who might be Joseph's brother. This time, Joseph says he was born in Iowa but his parents were from Bavaria.

Going back to the 1910 census (Fayette County, Iowa, E D 75, sheets 8B and 9A, household 153/155), Joseph and Baptist are teenagers in the household of Michel and Margaret Ott. This census shows that Michel and Margaret immigrated from Germany in 1884 -- apparently at the time of their marriage, since they reported that they had been married for 26 years. Their family:

Michel Ott (head), 51, born in Germany
Margaret Ott (wife), 47, born in Germany
Mary Ott (dau), 18, born in Iowa
Baptist Ott (son), 15, born in Iowa
Joseph Ott (son), 12, born in Iowa
Maggy Ott (dau), 11, born in Iowa
Sapho Ott (dau), 9, born in Iowa
Karl Ott (son), 6, born in Iowa
John Ott (son), 5, born in Iowa

Finally, the 1900 census (Fayette County, Iowa, E D 65, sheet 9B, household 189/191) shows two earlier children of the same family (also Michel is called Michael, and Baptist is called John B). This time they say they immigrated in 1883.

Michael Ott (head), 45, born Feb 1855 in Germany
Margaret Ott (wife), 37, born Feb 1863 in Germany
Anna Ott (dau), 13, born July 1886 in Iowa
George Ott (son), 11, born Nov 1888 in Iowa
Mary Ott (dau), 9, born Feb 1891 in Iowa
John B Ott (son), 6, born June 1893 in Iowa
Joseph Ott (son), 4, born Sept 1895 in Iowa
Margaret Ott (dau), 1, born Sept 1898 in Iowa

These are your husband's cousin's great-great-grandparents, which is as far back as I can trace her line.

Sorry. I was going to reply with the census list of names, but after taking my grandchildren back home to the East Coast, I was ill for a time. It appears you have received a wonderful reply from Mark James though. Hope all goes well for you. Linda
