I have an ancestor named George Northrop, from Bethel, CT. He fought in the War of the Rebellion, and died of wounds received in battle, in 1864. I've seen his gravesite in Bethel. His father was Thomas Jefferson Norhtrop, and his mom was Ruth Ann Hull Northrop, who was born in Newtown, CT, although I have no proof. Any ideas on how to proceed from here?

George started out in the Civil War as an "Orderly Sergeant", and was promoted in the field for bravery to the rank of First Lieutenant. He was a "Hatter" by occupation, and died in 1864 from wounds in battle. Send me an email (cnorth@concentric.net) and I can give you more on his ancestry.
