According to The Family of Thomas Noble of Westfield, Massachusetts by Lucius Boltwood, Reuben Noble (#107-page 60) was born in New Milford, CT on Feb. 15, 1755 and died in Mount Desert, ME on Oct. 20, 1818. Reuben was the son of Nathan (1722-1777- at the Battle of Saratoga - see DAR membership records) and Mary Gray, who was the son of John (b. Westfield, 1685-1773) and Abigail Buck, who was the son of John (b. Springfield, MA, 1662-1714) and Mary Goodman, who was the son of Thomas (c. 1632-England- 1704, Westfield, MA) and Hannah Warriner. You may find postings and family trees that give you the father of Thomas but this has not been proved and is likely incorrect. To read more about the descendents and your ancestors you can find the Boltwood book (1) on film through the Mormon Family History Centers, (2) at many major libraries, and (3) reprinted (original printing was 1878). There are also many resources where you can learn about the Merrill, Goodman, Buck, and Warriner families, as well as the early settlers of Westfield (Springfield), MA, New Milford and Hartford, CT, and Norway, Gray, and Falmouth, ME. We currently have an internet group made up of the descendents of Thomas Noble and Hannah Warriner and hope to have a reunion in Connecticut in a few years. See also the Noble surname at GenForum.com.

Margaret, thank you so much for taking the time to give me all this information. I will certainly start following it up this evening. Thomas Noble is therefore my seventh ggrandfather and has Australian descendants, because my son and grandson were born in this country. I'll keep in touch with others through this forum. Best wishes and thanks again!

I have a James Dean Hopkins and his daughter, Susan Patten Hopkins (b. 1810 Portland, ME) in my tree. Do you have any idea who his parents might be?

Dear Susanna

Neither of these names appear in my database. I could guess that James Dean Hopkins married a Patten because of the middle name of his daughter. This, plus the location and date, would likely make them relatives of mine. However, I'm only speculating. Good luck in your search!

Best wishes

Patrick

My husband is a descendent of Hannah Noble, d. of Reuben Noble and Hannah Merrill. Hannah m. Lewis DeLaittre. In some places Hannah Merrill, (Hannah Noble's mother) is listed as the d. of Stephen Merrill and in others, she is listed as the d. of Richard Merrill. Can you shed some light on this?

Patrick,

I am also a Merrill and have traced my Merrill's back to Wherstead England. I am not sure of the exact lineage as I once had it from John Merrill but we are related. There are two different Merrill families in Brunswick, ME. My dad was from Brunswick. I would love to share what I have.

Dear Sandy . . . Thanks for your note. It's good to hear from you. Please check my RootsWeb genealogy web site at
http://boards.ancestry.com/postmessage.aspx?p=surnames.noble...

where you'll find my NOBLE and MERRILL information and all my sources on this family. Reuben and Hannah NOBLE are my fourth ggrandparents. Their daughter moved up to Hancock County, Maine, which is where i was born. However, I lived in Brunswick for four years while attending Bowdoin, so know that area well.

I'll be happy to compare notes with you. Do you have your own online site that I could visit?

Best wishes from Patrick . . .
