Our family history includes a lawsuit involving the heirs of
Burkhard Moser (1748-1828) regarding land and/or mineral rights in
Pennsylvania. The lawsuit would have been pending in the early 1900s. Morton Montgomery's biography mentions the lawsuit but says
Burkhard was a bachelor. However, the history of Coaldale (
Coal Dale) mentions
Burkhard and his wife (unnamed) and son, John
Moser (1805-1895). There is also a mention of a son named Jacob (1790-1883) in another internet posting. Does anyone have info to share on this lawsuit and/or more info on
Burkhard Moser's descendancy? Our oral tradition says that the land was leased to a coal or oil company for 99 years and the outcome of the lawsuit invalidated the lease, awarding the land/mineral rights to the company. Our
Burkhard Moser was the son of
Hans Michael
Moser, who immigrated to
Pennsylvania in 1751 with his children, George-Peter-Barbara-Burkhard. Burkhard settled in Tamaqua, PA. I'm having trouble tracing him, particularly since there was a
Burkhart Mosser, Jr. living in PA around the same time. Our Burkhard's brother, Peter, had a son named John as well. Our family is descended from Burkhard's brother, Peter (married
Margaretha Lampe, I think), though his son, George (married Mary
Ludwig), through his son, Nathan (married Ellen
Nagel), through his son Alvin (married Margaret
Hannah Wintersteen), through his son, John (married
Cora Dutmer). Would appreciate any info at all.
