I don't know anything about his daughter. But if it's the same William he was my great-great grandparents son. He was the eldest of 11 children to George Mills b.1846 in
Shebbear, Devon and Elizabeth Mills nee. Palmer b.1850 in Pontypool. They lived in Maindy, Cardiff and George Mills was the Blacksmith who once lived in Llystalybont.

CHAMPION – Private calling hours will be held Thursday for Thelma Virginia Nommay, 82, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Thelma was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Roanoke, Ill., a daughter of the late Samuel E. and Corda P. (Orem) Mills.

A devoted mother, she was also one of the nation’s “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II, building airplanes in Akron, Ohio.

Thelma is survived by three children, Marcia Shaffer of New Waterford, David Nommay of Clearwater, Fla. and Drake (Charlotte) Nommay of Girard, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Thelma was preceded in death by a son, Mark Nommay; six brothers, Carl, James, Arthur, Edward, Eldon and Charles Mills; and an infant sister.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel.

mills brothers

Philip A Mills was my gfather,he had three brothers that I know of Walter, Sidney,and I think Howard was the other one. I have no more info on them. I do know they lived in Milo Maine when Philip was 2. He was born in 1864 in Pa. He died in April 1969 in Summerville,SC.
Looking for any relatives. My mother Mary Emma was his only child.

Searching for an old picture of Lillian (Lillie) A. Mills died 1922

Here's the backstory... My grandpa John Patrick Burke was brought to an orphanage in 1922 at the age of roughly about 4 years, by his father Thomas J. Burke, because his wife Lillian (Lillie) A. Mills had died of T.B in 1922 and he could not afford to support four children, and there were no willing relatives that could help out. Ultimately, my grandpa remained in that orphanage until his teenage years when he left for world war 2, throughout his stay he had very few visits from his father, and more frequent visits from his grandparents. My grandpa, John Patrick Burke, is now in his 90's and he has never seen what his mother looks like. If I could have any words of advice, or perhaps maybe you know something relating to these people, any help would be very much appreciated, as this is my mission before my grandpa passes on.

Yes Pat - we've corresponded before, quite some time ago. Force is my married name. My great-grandmother was Hannah Winifred Hill Mills - her mother was a Bennett. We have many Hope Mills in our family.
I'm Ava Mae Kepner (Force) daughter of Florence Alma Dady Kepner, granddaughter of Bert Dady and Ava Mae Mills Dady, great-granddaughter of Charles Henry Mills and Hannah Winifred Hill Mills.

Interesting you mentioned San Berdo - and the Hill name. My mother-in-law was a Hill (her father was) Samuel Hill from Tyrone, Ireland (northern Ireland Londonderry). He and 6 of his brothers sailed from there over about a 3-5 year period - 5 of which settled in southern California, one to Australia and subsequently continued and settled i New Zealand. The Hill sons were quite the early settlers of southern California and well known for fine horses and hay. You may well be related on the other side as well, when you mentioned your brother married a Hill. William Hill was the first son who immigrated and became a naturalized citizen, farming in the low land of Orange County - which originally was actually Los Angeles County - and he was instrumental in the breakout of Orange County. He also farmer in the foothills. My husband's grandfather Samuel Hill followed those same footsteps. My husband is Francis Alonzo Force - his Force family originated in France in the Alsace-Lorraine area. My grandfather Bert Dady had one sister who also married into the Hill family on the Mills/Hill side.

Kind of a mixed up situation, isn't it.

I delayed in responding - as the next day after the last post - I had to have my husband hospitalized for several days, and I NEVER leave him in the hospital with me being there 24/7.

Have you looked at their data, to see if they might be any where near your MILLS line, of which you are search?

The one goes back to the George of Jamaica, LI NY USA.

I ordered Mildred Viola Mills (Hicks-Rhinehart & Leo, were husbands) death certificate & it indicates that her parents were Lewis MILLS & Margaret BENNETT. She died in 1953 while married to Daniel Leo of Syracuse, NY. In the 1880 Syracuse census, there is a Jacob L. & Margaret Mills family who have a Cora & a Mertie (along with other children) in the h/h. However, there is no Mildred Viola & she would have been about 3 at that time. I know that Mildred had a sister named Cora who married a Spencer & "Mertie" (Myrtle) married a Linthwaite & lived her life in Columbus, OH. Other children in the 1880 Mills h/h are Olive, Willie (or Wiltie) & Jennie. ANY help on finding the parents of Lewis (or maybe Jacob Lewis) & Margaret Bennett will be very much appreciated. They aren't at the Fulton Co. Postcards site (which is wonderful). Thank you very much.

George Cummings Mills from Monahans County Ireland, b. 1837. Family ended up in the midwest, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma. Then to Washington state. George married Ida Mae Burgess in Oklahoma in 1903. Looking for any info.

I see that Joyce does not have parents for Hannah, but do see a link that ancestry is suggesting. A hannah age 4 on the 1880 census with parents Samuel and winifred???

But on www.familysearch.org is also a Hannah HILL with a Muscatine Co Iowa locale listed.

Just curious.

On my basic outline/skeleton family tree, do have a Hope MILLS who married a Martha J HILL?? Is she related to Hannah's same branch of the HILL family.

Coincidentally, my brother married a HILL also, of the Victorville, San Bernardino Co, CA area.

On www.ysearch.org is under ID URC6K if wish to do a comparsion for related DNA family members.

His DNA sample seems to match up with over 12 other non MILLS surnames. But seems to back track on 3 of them to John MILLS, of Virgina, through his daughter Elizabeth who married Theopolis or Robert WHALEY, and through their children, downline to BUCKLEY, ASHLEY, GLOVER, so far.

Very interesting.

I have not ever researched all that thoroughly that particular John MILLS of Virginia. Not sure how he adds to the mix, unless it is some other MRCA, that is, Most Common Recent Ancestor, that all our families share farther back in time, in per Drew GLOVER, middle England.

Appears to be Albany, New York. Likely from mid-1800's. Archeologists return to site in Albany where caskets were found. 10/1/2009 *work had started there 9/29/2009.

There is a 1891 map on the article site --- provided by an archaeologist. This 1891 map provided by archaeologist Michael Werner shows a cemetery off Delaware Avenue in the area where graves were located Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Madison Renae Doeh Mills, infant daughter of John R. Mills Jr. and Jennifer Doeh, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral Service will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Rev. Sharon Phillips of the Jesus Mission will officiate. Burial will be in Babyland at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Caskets Found - Road Repair

Did any one else hear this story on the news in the last few days??
I caught the tail end of the report, with some film showing idle work crews, and a partial road bed under construction.
Apparently while doing a repair to a road bed, the workers stumbled over some caskets. They had found up to 5 by the time the news crew apparently arrived to begin filming. I was curious WHERE this occurred. Again, as I say, I missed the beginning of the report, and just then, someone came to the door, and lost the channel, etc, because had to turn off the TV to take care of business.

When all else fails, one could do a DNA test, it is getting more reasonable by the day.

I don't find the death date or cemetery of Marion E. Vail in Franklin Co. Does anyone know of his death? His wife Blanche died Apr 1968 Rantoul, KS.

I am very interested in knowing more about the MILLS clan. Our line goes from Isaac "Pomp" to Issac to Nasby to Anthony and that is as far as I can get back...I think that is about 9 generations back from my husband. I would love to talk to you about it Shannan. and if you have a book or something, I would love to buy that too!!!
