Mickel Line to New York

lobrja  (View posts) Posted: 1 Apr 2001 1:10PM GMT
Hi, I am tracking my Mickel line. My grandfather is Arthur Mickel who lives in a nursing home in Ca. His line goes back thru Iowa, thru Wisconsin, and to Harmon Mickel in NY. I have not been able to find any family info on Harmon or go back from there. Would appreciate seeing your family web site that you mentioned and would like to share notes.
Thanks. Lorraine Frost at lobrja@hotmail.com

New York Mickel's

Lorraine,
Here is everything I've been able to pull together.
There are three families you may related to all from Schoharie County New York:
Philip Mickel and Millicent Husted, although I think they're a little too early they did live in Middleburg. They had many children
Daniel McClure 12/7/1811
Elizabeth 10/2/1817
Helen S 2/13/1823
John J 6/12/1819
Miriam Marie 12/9/1803
Rebecca 4/18/1821
Nicholas 2/6/1809
Peter 4/11/1806
Philip 1/18/1814
Veshtie 11/5/1807
Jeremiah Mickel and Elizabeth Wiley, they are about the correct time and have a thing for odd names. They have two sons that I can find Gifford b 1/12/1823 and Jeremiah b 2/16/1824.
George Mickel and Elizabeth Cole, they moved west into Illinois and Iowa. Infact, none of their children died in New York all of them died in one of those two states:
Jeremiah 1830
Mary E.1848
Albert 1847
Lorenzo 12/18/1837
Minerva 12/21/1839

George was born in 1800 and Elizabeth in 1802. They were married in 1828 so they must have more children than this. I think this might be your best bet.

Hope this leads you somewhere.
Tammy

Hi Lorraine,
I am a living relative of Arthur Mickel. He is my Uncle. His youngest brother, Paul is my father. I believe I've written to you but didn't get a response. Please write back so we can compare notes. I have info on Harmon given me by family, but can't for the life of me find him on any census records. I'm pretty new at this so I'm sure I just haven't located him yet.
Please e-mail me directly at Mlyn4@aol.com Reference Harmon Mickel so I don't delete it. Hope to hear from you soon!!!
Marilyn

I also come from John Mickels line and only have the first bito on Robert. I still actually live up the way from where both brothers went to Church near New Garden. Anything you could email me at jdmii@voicenet.com on Roberts line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Penelope/Tammy,

I am researching the parents of Abraham Michael, b. PA c. 1765-1775 and died 1823, Shelby, Genessee County. He was married to Margaret Weatherwax, b. c 1773 in Renssealear County, NY and died after 1850 in Lowell, Lake Co., IL. While Margaret's ancestors on both sides (other was Grauberger) were from the 1709 Palatine immigrants, I and other researchers have never been able to link Abraham to either of the Michael Palatine immigrants of 1709 who settled in Rensslaer/Schoharie Cos.

Yesterday I came across a baptismal record for a Hannes Michel, son of Hannes Michael and Sara Church, at the Albany Dutch Reformed Church, I believe in 1773. The child's sponsors were Andries Weatherax and his wife, Catharine Reisdorff. At that time, Andries and Catharine lived in the the area of Rensselaer Co., NY that later became Sand Lake. One of the other early settlers of Sand Lake was an R. Mickel.

This scenario technically fullfils the conditions of the Robert Mickel, with son John, whom he disowned for marrying his cousin Sarah. Of course, it is a geographical stretch to assume that these folks might have migrated from PA to this part of NY.

I'd appreciate your comments and suggestions for finding the parents of Abraham Michael.

Loren Michael
