Thanks for the post. I don't have a Richard Meza in my tree but would love to find out if we are related. Can you post a few more details? Do you have Rosendo or Manuel Meza in your tree? Florentino Meza was Rosendo's brother.

it is in the mazahua territory within the purepecha kindom

Valentine Meza Obit
ADRIAN — Valentine Meza, 62, of Saginaw/Adrian, died Friday, January 25, 2008, at his home. He was born February 14, 1945, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Jose Antonio and Simona (Perez) Meza. On December 7, 1967, he married Elsie Guadalupe Meza in Monterey, California, and she survives. Valentine was a machine operator specialist with General Motors until his retirement on July 1, 2006. He was a member of the UAW Local 467 of Saginaw, Michigan (Delphi Chassis).
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Terry Trevino of Adrian and Raymond Meza of Adrian; two daughters, Catherine Roe and her husband, Jeffrey, of Adrian, and Elaine Meza and Jason Rice, of Adrian; two brothers, David Meza, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Lorenzo “Larry” Meza, of Atwater, Calif.; one sister, Maria Meza, of Portaville, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 59 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy Morales and Lavonia Romona Flores, and brothers, Seferino Napo Meza and Jose Antonio Meza, Jr.
Funeral services for Valentine will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Anderson Funeral Home, in Adrian. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home, in Adrian.

Hola! Ms. Meza. My name is Robert Amavisca Leon, Phoenix, Arizona. My tata's name was Colonel Simon Amavisca. According to family he was from Sonora Mexico, had a brother(don't know his name) anyway. What I hear from long ago, is that my tata came over from Mexico after the war. He worked in the ranchos in Tolleson, Arizona. I did find out that we're kind of related to a family in Buckeye, Arizona but they spell their name Amabisca. My mom use to say that she had cousin in Heber, Arizona (son hueros and tall men). We still have family in Hermosillo, Sonora..(One of my mom's cousin in law was the Police Chief in Hermosillo< and they also had a rancho there) some in Mexico City. My cousin David who works with me here says that we have cousin's in L.A. I know of one who's name is Elizar Amavisca who owns and operates an Air Conditioning firm in L.A. ..In Phoenix, we have one cousin who is a police detective for the city (Richard Amavisca). And it's funny, that all my brothers and uncles followed in my tata's footsteps (military), there all out but live here in Phoenix. My two tia's Manuela Amavisca Rosales and Frances Amavisco Garcia and one uncle Simon Amavisca are still alive. There is one I'll call him tio (Joe Amabisca) who lives in Buckeye Arizona is still alive he own a restuarant La Placita. I know that there is some Amavisca's in Tucson Arizona. My mom also told me that we were also related somehow to the Conde/Acosta family (?). I spoke to my mother in law Mary Olga Meza daughter of Ezequiel and she has a lot of information for you. Even her concept of "maggie" and how the aunts came to take care of her....and who all got the heirloms and personal belongings. Olga said this email brought alot of lost memories back to her that she hadn't thought of for years. Olga sister Elia (mary ellen) Meza who lives in texas would go and visit maggie often.

I'll ask olga if she wants to give you her telephone number and you can call her...how about that?

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Cpl. Gilberto A. Meza, 21, of Oxnard, Calif., died Oct. 6 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

I'm looking also looking for a Paul Meza. He is my mother-in-law's (Delfina Lopez)father. Delfina was conceived behind the Bakersfield High School bleachers in Bakersfield, CA about 55 years ago. Delfina's mother's name is Rosie Dowell. She last saw him before he went off to the Korean War. After he left Rosie found out that she was pregnant. Rosie wrote Paul a letter stating that she was pregnant. Paul wrote Rosie back and told Rosie to go to his mother's house (as being pregnant out of wedlock was a disgrace). Paul's mother Jesusita (as Rosie recalls) told her to go away because her parents didn't want Rosie with a Mexican. Rosie re-married and when Paul got back from the Korean War he tried to find Rosie but Rosie's parents told him that she was married. Any information would be helpful! Thank you :)

Thanks for the info you have more than I do. I have found the Meza family headed up bu an Urbano Meza Born in Mexico and I have his children and there families but I have no Idea who his brothers and sisters where of who his parents were and that is what I need to know. My husbands grandmother was Mary Margaret Meza but I haev no idea who her parents were because she was raised by 2 old aunts. My guess is that she belongs to someone in the family.
I did find ond of the sons still alive and living in Corpus Christi Texas so I am going to write him, he is 80 years old. I have found that the Mez'a all lived a long time.

Not sure if tou have a full memebership to Ancestry (i do)but there are alot of records on there for Meza family members many in Nueces County Texas. I have seen some of the names you mentioned when I have been searching. If you don'y have access I don't mind checking things for youmany people have helped me over the years so I have no problem helping others.

Thanks so much for reaching out. I wish I had a lot of information for you so that we could determine a definite connection, but I'm afraid I have very little. This is what I know about Manuel Meza:

He was born in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico; perhaps in the city of Chihuahua but we are not certain nor can I find any record of his birth. Based on my grandfather's age I figure he may have been born between 1850 and 1860. He married Elisa Sosa who was from the state of Durango. We know of 5 children that they had together: Cornelio, Gabriel, Elisa (the only daughter), Rosendo (my grandfather) and Florentino. My mother (Celia Meza) and uncle (Ruben Meza) remember that there was a Juan Meza who was my grandfather's cousin but they do not recall who's son he may have been. Juan Meza married Concepcion and they had several children: Concepcion, Sylvia, Hector, Alberto, Juan Jr., Adolfo, Emma, Martha, and Bertha.

Unfortunately, I have no other information. Many of Manuel's children and grandchildren left Mexico but I haven't been able to find out where they settled in the U.S.
