Here's a theory for you...How about the James McCain, son of John McCain and Elizabeth Johnson? I know nothing about the guy, but he would've been born around then. The John & Elizabeth i'm talking about had 4 sons (John, James, Nelson & G.W.), and Elizabeth is listed as being born in 1785 in N.C. The other John & Elizabeth I have has John as being born in 1785, but their children are listed as: Thomas, Matilda, Robert, Ann & 2 other girls. The reason I bring this up is because this John McCain's grandmother was Sarah Hamilton, and you have one of James' kids being named Hamilton. Now, in a perfect world, these two couples would the same people! But i'm sure someone out there can eradicate this theory! Give me your email address so I can send you an invite to my myfamily.com site & you can see the info. (it's all stuff people have uploaded to ancestry.com, i've just compiled it into one database).

McCain Family

Kim, I am new to this site and I saw that you mentioned that you had a family site with lots of McCains. I would love to look at it! I have a Martha McCain Pruitt,b.12-24-1842, d.01-03-1899 as a gggrandmother and always thought her father was a Hugh McCain since she is buried next to him in New Bethel Cemetery in Floyd Co., Ga. and the ages are about right. She was married ,on 08-05-1858, to my gggrandfather, Tillman M. Pruitt, b. 08-02-1833 in Spartanburg, S.C. d,05-09-1894. I have just heard from a "new relative" that her father was a David G. McCain who was born in Ga. She was born and died in Ga. but lived in Al. a short while. The David G. McCain married a Martha Moore born about 1826 in S. C. If you find a reference to any of these, would you send me an invite to your site? Thanks and May God Bless! Brenda at abbottb@mindspring.com

Enicid ? McCain

Hey, there!! This is the first time I have run across the name Enicid since I found it in a census record years ago!! One year it was spelled that way and the next census it looked liked "Mincey"! However, I believe that is the Indian name of a ggg? grandmother of mine who was married to a McCain. My mother is 81 and she still remembers "Granny Cain" as they called her from her Mother's stories(my grandmother, Minnie Inez Pruitt Gable.) Granny Cain was the mother of Minnie's mother, Martha McCain Pruitt, w. of Tillman M. Pruitt. Martha is buried next to some McCain's in New Bethel cemetery in Floyd Co., Ga. I thought Martha was a dau. of Hugh McCain but a "new relative" send me an email today stating that Martha was the dau. of David G. McCain. About 30 years ago, I spent many hours looking at census records and I found the Enicid as the mother of what I thought was my ggg?grandmother, Martha. If you have any info that will help me , I will be glad to share what I have. I have lost my census records that I copied but at the time every name was one in our family. You may email me at : abbottb@mindspring.com if you have anything we can share. Thanks and May God bless, Brenda

Brenda,
I don't believe I have the the David that you are talking about, certainly not by the dates anyway. I will put your info. into my database asap and upload to ancestry.com; hopefully someone else will come looking for the same line. In the meantime, email this guy: Tim@chase.net It was from his ancestry.com information that I got the one David McCain that was even close...maybe he has a clue for you. I will also invite you to the myfamily.com site so you can look around!

Hello, "T", I believe that my ggrandmother is the Martha McCain, who was born in 1840(2)? I know that on the census records I have looked at, she was in the household with a Enicid or Mincey as the oldest female. However, that has been some time ago and I am not sure of the oldest male's name. Do you have anymore info on this line of James McCain? What was his wife's maiden name? Who were some of the other children married to or did James have siblings that you have found? Thanx for a reply and God Bless

You must have the John McCains confused. John who was the father of John who married Elizabeth Johnson had no known mother. Old John married Agness (Nancy) Kennedy in SC & moved later to Blount Co TN where he died in 1798. There is no evidence connecting him with old Hugh McKean of Marsh Creek PA who came from Ulster to PA with Hance Hamilton & had some children who married Hamilton's children.

In an 1860 US Census, The Northern Division, Randolph County, Alabama, dated 9 June 1860, there are McCains listed: James age 45, Enicy (Sp?) age 43 , Martha age 19, Catharine age 17 , Sarah E. age 15 on Page 22. And of interest, their occupations are listed as Farmer, and all the rest weavers. Probably more names on Page 23. I had this census page copied, only to find out it was not relevant to my McCains. I know I am years late, but I could not let your post go unanswered. Hope it helps. Marium Griswold
