Thank you for posting so much information on the Mays of Berks Co. Have you ever run into a Juliann May who married a John Stout with a daughter Maria Magdelena Stout b. 1807? I would guess Juliann's birth would have occured around 1777-1787? They were from Berks Co., later moving to Montgomery Co. (next door)

Hello

Nice to get replies to message boards even a couple of years later!!
I may not be much help as my search for teh May family involves the daughter of my 4x Great Uncle, Dr.John Seager Gundry whose daughter, Mary Augusta born 1859 in Wells, Somerset, married Albert Edward May in Honiton, Devon in 1879. Albert was a doctor as well. They had four children: Daisy May, Ethel,Albert John, Rose.
Dr.John Gundry came to N.Z with his wife Isabella in 1851 along with my 3x Great Grandfather, Sam Gundry and his family. John and Isabella returned to England to have their daughter - they were both getting on by then as shr was born 1824 and he 1816. Quite old for the times. We ahve purchased a house that belonged to Dr. john here in N.Z which we rent out as holiday accommodation. It is called Islay cottage and you can view it on www.holidayhomes.co.nz. It is situated in Lyttelton, Christchurch.
Other than this I have been unable to trace any of the May family. Daisy May never married and lived in Kent. She sent over to the Christchurch museum Dr.John Gundry's diaries which ahve been put into print.
Sorry I am of no further help.
Brenda

Hi Christine. I don't know, but here's what little I have. Albert Edward May was a doctor who married Mary Augusta (born after 1859), the only child of Dr John Seager Gundry. I'm told they had 4 children, one being Daisy, but I'm afraid I haven't delved any further. Maybe, just maybe, Albert and George William were brothers?? If you find any more, let me know, and I'll do likewise. All best. Catherine
William MAY of Granville County, NC 1785-bef1880

I am looking to collaborate on information for William MAY of Granville County, NC. William was born about 1785 in NC and died sometime prior to 1880 in Granville County. He lived most of his life in Granville. He may have come from Warren or Franklin County. He was found in Federal Census records from 1820 to 1870 in Granville. His known children based on census data and what records are available are Thomas Henry MAY (1804-?), Mary M. JENKINS (1805-?), Frances DAVIS (1811-?), William G. MAY (1814-?), Mary Eliza PREDDY (1817-?), Anthony Dock MAY (1819-22APR1896), Robert Lee MAY (1825-1898), and John Yancey MAY (1825-?). William's wife was named Elizabeth (surname unknown) and she was born about 1783 in NC and died between 1860 and 1866. He later married (23 JAN 1866) Direna HUDDLESTON (born about 1825 in NC). They are listed together in 1870 with her name as Dionesia and they had no children. William may have had associations or kinship with Enoch MAY of Warren County and other MAYs of Franklin County. He is suspected of owning land around New Light Creek on the Franklin/Granville border. I have a lot of information on William, his children and their descendants and I would love to fill in the gaps. I'm also interested in information on his parents, siblings and wives.

I am the ggreat grandson of Harry (Henry?) May (middle name Henderson??) born 1839 in England. Father was English, mother was Scottish. Have reason to believe he had connections to Scot families named Henderson, Stanard or Stuart.

Migrated to Decatur, Texas in 1870. Family names include; Harry, Robert, Richard, Ralph, & Oscar.

This Harry May was a day laborer & machine operator , stateside, that has birthed a family of artists, salesmen, entrapenuers. They have historicly been successful, hard workers, that have never lost touch with the "common man".

If you think this Harry May may be your "MISSING LINK" contact me.

Jason
Re: Mysterious Roy May of GA

Hi Heather. You don't happen to know Roy's middle initial, do you?

It's probably just a shot in the dark, but I'm also looking for information on my Great Grandfather, also named Roy May. I know next to nothing about him other than the fact that he abandon his wife and six children. I think he married my grandmother in 1925 (although I can't recall where I got the date, so it could be faulty).

I think he lived in Oklahoma with my grandmother, Mattie Opal (Cochran) May, and the kids for a while before he left, but I'm also not 100% positive about that either. I have no idea where he went after he left the family or where he was prior to marrying my Great Grandmother. (I have heard stories that his family [parents, siblings, etc... I guess] disowned him, though, but I don't know why.)

Like I said, it's probably nothing (Roy isn't the most unique name out there), but I figured I'd respond just in case. After all, if a man can place his five children in an orphanage after the death of his wife, then he certainly seems like a man who can just up and leave his second family and six more children. (Plus, if I'm correct about the year my great grandparents were married, it also fits with the timeline of your great grandmother passing away and the children being given up in 1924.)

Roy D. May - Oklahoma?

I'm looking for information (especially for the ancestors) on my Great Grandfather, Roy D. May.

I'm not sure what the middle initial stands for (I think I discovered it through a notation in a baby book). He married Mattie Opal Cochran - I think - on September 20, 1925 and they had six children: Cleo Juanita May (b. April 21, 1928), Leon May, Velma Jean May, R E May (just letters, though he changed "R" to Robert when he wanted to join the military because they wouldn't let him in with just letters/initials for a name), Raymond Doyle May (b. August 17, 1940), and Barbara May. (I don't know all their birthdates or ages, so they aren't listed in chronological order.)

I think he lived in Oklahoma with his family for a while, but I'm not positive. Opal and the kids were there, but Roy left the family at some point and I have no idea when he left or where he went afterwards.

Any information would be extremely helpful!

Thank You,
~Camille May~

Re: Henry May Germany-Illinois-Iowa

During a recent trip back to Iowa, we had the opportunity to go through the county records in Boone, Iowa. I recall seeing a Henry May being listed in the book of marriage records between 1895 to 1914. I don't know if this is your line. Not aware if your line connects with ours. With the abundance of our records found and obtained, I do not remember the "better spouse's" name. Sorry. You may wish to visit their office. Family research is put on backburner for nearly two months with recent events. Some areas where my line has lived have included: Boone, Fraser, Fort Dodge, Otho, Eagle Grove, Webster City, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Dows, Des Moines, Ames and Moingona. With my "May's" I am looking for "Bailey's" from Iowa as well.

Hope this helps. If any links together, would love to hear from you or everyone else reading this post. Have info to share with family.

Re: May from Cornwall

Our family ties include Richard & Sarah May.. originating near Devon, Cornwall, thereafter Durham, Tow Law, and further to the USA. From what I am finding, it appears that my Great Great Great Grandfather Richard, was knighted in 1841 in Tow Law and known as Sir Richard thereafter. Two variations of our family has stated that the Richard Sr known to be knighted, is actually Richard May II. This would make my own father Richard the 6th not the 5th.

We do not have a "henry" in our line. We have found that our grandparents named children after brothers and parents and uncles. Henry may be a 3rd or 4th son that we do not know about. We have not located information on siblings for Richard I or II.

Other names, child of Richard & Sarah: Richard who married Isabelle; their son Richard married Selena; their son Richard (my grandfather, his son Richard (my father) and more thereafter being my brother and nephew.

We have found abundance of information centering around mining towns in England for those that originated near Cornwall. After coming to America, Uncles and Grandfathers worked mines throughout the states where work found. Many became city officials, mayors and architects/masons that have built or rebuilt towns/cities after numerous natural disasters.

Other Uncles have included: George, Jonathan, Frederick & Thomas

Anyone wishing information on this line, please contact me at carolealopez@yahoo.com.

We have found many lost family and would enjoy finding more!

Just to confirm that your Maurice( Hunt) MAY is the same person born of William May who was (b) Manchester but lived in Leicester, and of Mary Hunt. I have found Maurice May living with his inlaws, the Greens, and his young wife - in 1911 - Derbyshire Census. He is noted as a Lace Maker (b) LEICESTER. Originally, you will find Maurice (b) 1884,in Leicester, under the name of May or Hunt, 1891 census, where his father, William, is still alive. I believe William, died about 1899.. You will find Maurice and his sibs living with mother Mary Hunt (May) LEICESTER census - 1901. So I am now SURE that proves he is from our same family of Mays. If you want further info. on the MAYS, EMail at my EMail address of --jvmcashel@hotmail.com

Her dad's name was Robert and he was in the military, possibly the Air Force or the Navy. That's about all I know but I really would like to find her for my friend, Sybil, who lived with Sandra's family in Portales, NM for a time and visited Sandra and her family in California, for a time.
If anyone knows this family, drop me a note, here.
I'm trying to connect the Margaret May that married William Buchanan in Telfair County Ga on June 20, 1844 to the correct May family. Does anyone have any info about her?
Bernice

Okay.

Is there a Henry May in there somewhere. Maybe a Richard and Robert May in the family line? 1810ish - 1870? I have hit a brick wall on my Harry's immigration to US. I wonder if his real name was Henry May.

harry may 1839 UK

I am trying to find Harry May's father. I think his father was born around 1810-1815. This is my brick wall. The prominant names for this line are Harry, Oscar, Robert, and Richard.

I believe the official name is Harry Henderson May (Sr). He and his father were born in England, mother born in Scotland. Harry migrated to the US around 1870, married Sally and settled in Decatur,(Wise county) TX.

Can I get a witness?
